14-18 Department of Louisiana American Legion Family Remembrance and Prayer Lists This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us whatever we ask we know that we have what we asked of Him. (1 John 5:14-15) God reads the prayers of our heart even before they have been formed into words or vocalized by our mouth. Sick List For those who are having medical difficulties who are receptive to prayer offered on their behalf, let us continue to lift their names in prayer: 1
Prayer For The Ill Dear Lord, we ask Your blessing for our friends who are suffering from illness in their lives. We ask that You be with them in the most difficult days of their lives. Let them know that You are the counselor and source of faith. Let them see within those who care for them Your loving spirit so that they will know that you have not abandoned them. Let them have faith in those who are trained to care for them, knowing that you guide them in their tasks. Let them understand that all things are possible if they have faith in Your healing touch. Touch them through those around them. Help them to know that You bless us through others. We praise You, our most gracious God, Lord and Father. Amen. In Memory Of The Deceased When I m Gone When I come to the end of my journey and I travel my last weary mile. Just forget if you can that I ever frowned and remember only the smile. Forget unkind words I have spoken; remember some good I have done. Forget that I ever had heartache and remember I've had loads of fun. Forget that I've stumbled and blundered and sometimes fell by the way. Remember that I have fought some hard battles, and won, ere the close of the day. Then forget the grief for my going I would not have you sad for a day. But in summer just gather some flowers and remember the place where I lay, And come in the shade of the evening when the sun paints the sky in the west. Stand for a few moments beside me and remember only my best. 4

For The Bereaved After the clouds, the sunshine; after the winter, the spring; after the shower, the rainbow; for life is a changeable thing. After the night, the morning, bidding all darkness cease, after life's cares and sorrows, the comfort and sweetness of peace. Helen Steiner Rice I wish, I wish upon a star, for my dreams to carry me to where you are, to hear your voice or sense your touch, to feel you near would mean so much. I know you re never far away, and that you re with me every single day, So I m wishing now with all my might that you ll come to me in my dreams tonight. Mary Jac 6

Why We Give Thanks "We tend to take all the gifts and pleasures and happiness and the joy without saying much to God. We take our health and strength, our food and clothing and our loved ones, all for granted; but the moment anything goes wrong we start grumbling and complaining and we say 'Why should God do this to me, why should this happen to me?' How slow we are to thank and swift to grumble." [Martyn Lloyd-Jones] Imagine a nation where people did not bother to express gratitude. Imagine a society devoid of benevolence and humility. Unlike what some people believe, Thanksgiving is not a binge fest. Yes, the meal is a bit much. The dinner table is usually groaning with the weight of the food. With the abundance of delicious food, it is understandable why people give their weighing scales a holiday. The underlying philosophy behind Thanksgiving celebration is to offer thanks to God. You don't realize how fortunate you are to be blessed with abundant food, and a loving family. Many people are not that lucky. Thanksgiving gives you an opportunity to express gratitude. Millions of American families will join their hands in prayer to say grace. Thanksgiving is integral to American culture. On Thanksgiving, say a prayer of thanks to the Almighty, for the bountiful gifts bestowed upon you. Many years ago, the Pilgrims of Plymouth did so. They shared their food with the natives of the land, who had helped them in times of misery. The tradition of sharing the Thanksgiving meal continues even today. In honor of that tradition, share your gifts with friends and family. George Washington It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor. 8
