Thank you for joining us for worship this morning. In our service, we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also gather to strengthen ourselves through the study of God s holy and powerful Word. Welcome Worshiper Cards are located in the book racks. Please fill one out and place it in the offering plate later in the service. Restrooms are located in the entryway. Two Nursery rooms are available for parents with small children. Footnotes throughout the worship folder help explain the different parts of the service. PREPARING FOR WORSHIP Today is the last Sunday of the Church Year. The Church Year is an arrangement of week-by-week themes which annually review for us and impress upon our hearts what our Savior God has done for us: his birth, life, ministry, suffering, death, resurrection, exaltation, and rule in our hearts and lives. What an appropriate way to conclude the Church year as we honor Christ the King! PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP The kingdom, the power, and the glory are given to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Your dominion is an everlasting dominion; your kingdom one which shall not be destroyed. Let all the peoples, nations, and languages serve you. Remind me today, and every day, that all things are under your control. Remind me today, and every day, that you rule all things for my good. You ve made me that promise. Help me to trust this promise. I pray this in your name. Amen. 1 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Flowers adorning our altar this morning are given to the glory of God by Jack and Joni Faria, Rick and Judi Mello and Frank and Debbie Alves. OPENING Crown Him with Many Crowns Christian Worship #341 Please stand for the singing of the last stanza. OUR THANKS TO GOD M: God our Father has given each day this past church year as a gift of his grace. C: Every day, we received his mercy and his grace. M: He placed his Word before us as a lamp to guide our feet. C: God s Word has been a steady light to show us the path of life. M: He has shielded us from harm and kept us from evil. C: Better than life is his love. OUR CONFESSION BEFORE GOD M: In the name of God, to whom all hearts are open and from whom no secrets are hidden. Amen. C: O Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy, and in your faithfulness, come to my relief. Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you. Answer me quickly, O Lord; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift my soul. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. M: Jesus says to his people: If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven. His death paid for the guilt of your sins and the sins of the whole world. Because of the promise of our Savior Jesus, I forgive you all your sins. Be assured that you are a dear child of God and an heir of eternal life. C: Thanks be to God! RESPONSE Hail, O Once-Despised Jesus Christian Worship #351 stanzas 1 and 2 Hail, O once-despised Jesus! This dialog appears in Ruth 2:4 and has been used in Christian worship for nearly 2000 years. M: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. M: Let us pray. Lord Jesus Christ, by your victory you have broken the power of the evil one. Fill our hearts with joy and peace as we look with hope to that day when every creature in heaven and earth will acclaim you King of kings and Lord of lords to your unending praise and glory; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. Epiphany Revelation of our Universal King SCRIPTURE LESSON Matthew 2:1-11 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him. 3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 In Bethlehem in Judea, they replied, for this is what the prophet has written: 6 But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel. 7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him. 9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. O God from God, O Light from Light Christian Worship #85 stanzas 1 and 3 Lent Humiliation of our Suffering King SCRIPTURE LESSON Matthew 27:27-31, 37 Then the governor s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. Hail, king of the Jews! they said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. 37 Above his head they placed the written charge against him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 5

Easter Proclamation of our Risen King SCRIPTURE LESSON Revelation 19:11-16 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. 7 I Know that My Redeemer Lives Christian Worship #152 stanzas 1, 2, and 6

Pentecost/End Time Exaltation of our Ruling King SCRIPTURE LESSON Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. At the Name of Jesus Christian Worship #344 OFFERING The members of St. Peter Congregation have joined together to do the Lord s work in this community and around the world. Guests at St. Peter are welcome to participate in the offering but need not feel obligated to do so. 8

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH M: To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power for ever and ever! C: Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory. M: You are worthy, O Christ our King, to receive honor and glory and praise, for you created all things and by your will they were created and have their being. C: Alleluia! For our Lord God Almighty reigns! M: You are worthy, O Christ our King, to receive honor and glory and praise because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased us for God. From every tribe and language and people and nation, you have called us into your kingdom and have made us priests to serve you, our God and Father. C: Help us live as royal priests. M: We give thanks to you, O Christ our Shepherd-King, because you have searched for us and found us. Lead us to the green pastures and quiet waters of your saving love, so that we may enjoy peace and comfort for our souls. C: Heal our hearts when they are broken with sin and guilt. Strengthen us when we are weak. M: We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. Use your power to calm the unrest among nations and peoples so that your kingdom may spread and grow. C: Strengthen our confidence in knowing that your kingdom will never be destroyed. M: O Christ our King, you have supremacy over all. You will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity. You have destroyed death and brought life to us through the gospel. May the whole earth be filled with his glory. Special prayers and intercessions may follow. M: Hear us, Lord, as we bring you our private petitions in a moment of silent prayer. Silent prayer. The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever, King of kings and Lord of lords. C: The Lord God Almighty reigns! Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! Amen. 9

LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
