Mt. Zion Baptist Church Zion Monthly September 2015 Prayer Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Matthew 13: 9b KJV
2 A Conversation with God From the Old Testament to the New Testament, all of the prayers of God s servants are unto Him. So, when you pray a sincere prayer unto God, you are having a conversation with Him. This is a different conversation than you may have with anyone else. Why? Because you are having a conversation with the one and only True and Living God. The One who made the heaven and earth. The One who has all power. The One who, as our Pastor always says, can do something. Prior to giving His disciples the model prayer in Matthew 6, Jesus admonished His disciples on how no to pray. We should not pray with the expectation that man will say that we sure did pray or that we prayed a good prayer. We should humble ourselves before God and pray with sincerity. After reproof, Jesus gave the disciples instructions on how to pray in the model prayer. AFTER THIS MANNER THEREFORE PRAY YE: OUR FATHER WHICH ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME. THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE IN EARTH, AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD. AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS, AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS. AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL: FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY, FOR EVER. AMEN. Matthew 6: 9 13 The reason Jesus gave His disciples instructions on how to pray is because He knew that they did not know what to pray for to help them with their physical and mental weaknesses. So it is with us. We need the model prayer to teach us how to pray to God. Once we begin our conversation with the model prayer, it should inspire us to continue our conversation to include all aspects of our lives family, church, work, unsaved, bereaved families. And the list goes on. We should remember that we have not always been blessed with the privilege and opportunity to have a conversation with God. It was the custom, in the Old Testament, that only the priest could go behind the veil in the temple to speak directly to God on behalf of His chosen people. But, when Jesus died on the cross, the veil in the temple was rent from the top to bottom. Once that happened, we no longer had to have a priest or anyone else to speak on our behalf. We now have a direct access to God. Direct access for us to have a conversation with God through prayer. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE PRIVILEGE THAT GOD HAS GIVEN US THROUGH PRAYER!!!!!
