1. Heavenly Father, are you really there? And do you hear and answer ev ry child s prayer? Some say that heaven is far away, But I feel it close around me as I pray. Heavenly Father, I remember now Something that Jesus told disciples long ago: Suffer the children to come to me. Father, in prayer I m coming now to thee. 2. Pray, he is there; Speak, he is list ning. You are his child; His love now surrounds you. He hears your prayer; He loves the children. Of such is the kingdom, the kingdom of heav n. Does anyone have any questions about prayer? Listen for answers as we learn of Enos.

Lesson 9: Enos Prays, Primary 4: Book of Mormon, (1997),28 Enos, Book of Mormon Stories, (1997), Ch. 11, p. 30-31

Enos was Jacob s son. He kept the plates and wrote on them after his father died. One day Enos was hunting in the forest.

He thought about his father s teachings and wanted to be forgiven of his sins. Enos knelt and prayed to God.

He prayed all day and was still praying when night came. God told Enos that because of his faith in Jesus Christ, his sins were forgiven.

Enos then wanted the Lord to bless the Nephites. Enos prayed for the Nephites, and the Lord said he would bless them if they obeyed his commandments.

Enos also wanted the Lord to bless the Lamanites. He prayed with great faith, and the Lord promised to do what Enos asked him.

Even though the Lamanites fought the Nephites and tried to destroy their records, Enos prayed that they would become a righteous people.

Enos prayed that the records he had kept would be safe. The Lord promised that someday he would give the Lamanites the teachings that were on the records.

Enos preached to the Nephites. He wanted them to believe in God and keep the commandments.

The Nephites tried to teach the gospel to the Lamanites, but they would not listen. The Lamanites hated the Nephites.

Enos spent his life teaching people about Jesus and the gospel. He served God and loved him all his days.

Write these questions on your paper: When can we pray? Where can we pray? What can we pray about? Enr. Act. 1

What is mighty prayer and supplication? How do you think this kind of prayer is different from other prayers?

How did Heavenly Father answer Enos s prayer? Let s read Enos 1:5 How did Enos know his sins were forgiven? Let s read Enos 1:5 6

Why did Heavenly Father say Enos was forgiven of his sins? Let s read Enos 1:8 We can be forgiven if we repent because Jesus Christ suffered for our sins.

Let s review the pattern of prayer: a. Begin by addressing our Father in Heaven. b. Tell him what you are thankful for. c. Ask him for what you desire. d. Close by saying, In the name of Jesus Christ, amen. Enr. Act. 2

Enos heard the voice of the Lord in his mind in answer to his prayer. What are some other ways that we may receive answers to our prayers? Would any of you like to share an experience you have had in receiving answers to prayer?

Why might Heavenly Father answer no to our prayers? How can we tell if Heavenly Father s answer is no? Why should we take the time to listen after we have prayed, just as Enos did?
