Lesson 5: God is Faithful! Objectives: Students will 1) Discuss faith and determine that God if faithful to us 2) Discuss verses from the Bible that show God is faithful 3) Create a God is faithful banner to help remember all the ways God is faithful Supplies: Teacher Materials (provided in classroom) Bible Markers Pencil Crayons Attendance Chart (See Template) Stickers for Attendance God is Faithful Banner Paper (11 x 17 Computer copy paper or large construction paper in light color so kids can color over) one per child Construction Paper in different rainbow colors to make rainbow strips Glue Sticks Scissors Paper Bag Template of Verses on God s Faithfulness print one copy and cut out each verse so kids can pick one from the bag. Chalkboard or Easel to write down ideas for all to see Optional Snack: Rainbow Skittles 10 or so per child Napkins for snack one per child Juice or water and cup one per child God is Faithful Word Puzzle and Coloring one per child Song Lyrics Arky Arky Song for kids to see print one copy Plastic Zip Loc Bags one per child if doing nature walk Q tips, a penny, cotton balls, paper clips, pen, eraser, and stuffed animal for gravity game Lesson: 1) Introduction to Lesson 10 minutes As students enter welcome them and help find a chair to sit at. Thank them for coming. Have children put a sticker beside their name for this week. Once children are seated say, What have we learned about God so far? (God is Love, God is worthy of praise) Today we are going to learn that God is faithful. WHAT IS FAITH? Can anyone tell me what faith is? Raise your hand if you know. Encourage children to raise hands and tell you what they think is faith. Examples may be believing in something you can t see, believing even when others don t, faith is trust.

For God, His faith means that God is consistently reliable, worthy of trust, He is one you can absolutely count on to keep His word. What God has promised, He will do! Let s get our Bibles and turn to Deuteronomy 7:9 near the beginning of the Bible. Listen as I read. About God being faithful Deuteronomy 7:9 says, Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; HOW IS GOD S FAITHFULNESS SHOWN IN THIS VERSE? Covenant means promise and mercy means forgiveness even though you don t deserve it What is this verse saying? Raise your hand if you can list some of the ways God is faithful or trustworthy. Have students go through and mention He is faithful in keeping His promises such as being merciful to those who obey His commandments He is reliable and we can trust Him to keep all His promises! Any Questions? Now let s look at other ways God is faithful. 2) God is Faithful Scripture Verse Read Out 10 minutes Gather a paper bag and print copy of scripture verses. Cut out verses in advance before class. Fold each verse and place in paper bag. Tell the kids, To learn about the faithfulness of God we are going to pass around the paper bag and pick out a verse. Once you have a verse read it aloud or you can pass it to me to read. We ll then go to the next person and let them choose a verse from the bag to read. Once a verse is picked, have the child read it out loud (if they are comfortable) and then ask the class, What is this verse saying about God? What does it mean? Go around until all verses are picked out and discussed. 3) Optional: Gravity Activity 10 minutes Gather the following items before class: Q tips, a penny, cotton balls, paper clips, pen, eraser, and small stuffed animal. Have kids stand in a circle so the items can be viewed by all in the middle. Say, We are going to take turns holding the items in the air and letting go. I ll start pick an object hold it up and then drop it. (Go around circle letting kids pick an item and drop it to the floor. Remind them to just let go, do not throw. ) Say, If you change the way you drop them does anything change in how they land? Allow students to answer. You will notice that no matter how you drop them, they always land on the floor. It's impossible for them to land on the ceiling or on the wall. Why is that so? Because gravity pulls objects down. Gravity is totally dependable it pulls things down. Another way to put it is to say that gravity is always faithful to pull things down on earth. Just like God He is always faithful. He always will do what He says He will do and we can trust in Him to keep His promises.

4) Optional: Nature Walk (Weather Permitting) 10 15 minutes Say, God is the same, faithful, no matter what season it is or how much time passes. To help us remember we are going to go on a nature walk and collect things that remind us that God is the same, he never changes, and He is faithful and keeps His promises! Two rules we all stick together and absolutely no collecting or bothering any live creatures! Gather the kids ensuring they all have proper clothing for the weather and hand out a treasure bag Ziploc baggie. Say as you go, remember to find things that remind you of God and his promises things from the seasons, leaves, grass, flowers, etc. That remind us God never changes. Help kids collect appropriate items and remind them that these can be used to put on our God is Faithful Banners we will be making later in class. While you're walking, look for things in nature that are also dependable and faithful. Leaves fall in the autumn and come out in the spring; birds make nests; ants gather food; waves crash on the beach; the stars come out at night; the sun shines even when there are clouds. When you come back, talk about what you saw and why it is a reminder of faithfulness. God is completely faithful in every way. We can depend on Him to always do what He says He'll do. The world He created reflects God's faithfulness in many ways, and it reminds us of His faithfulness wherever we go. Choose one thing you saw today that reminds you of God's faithfulness and share it with everyone. Go around class letting each child show one thing they found that helps them to remember God never changes, He is faithful! 5) God is Faithful Banner Craft 15 20 minutes If you did the nature walk, ask the kids to use some of what they found to put on our God is faithful banners. Remind them that no matter what the season or weather or country God is faithful what He says He does, whom He loves (us!) He ll keep loving! God is the same and will never change! If you did not do the nature walk that is fine as there are other things to put on the banner as well. Hand out one piece of construction paper or large copy paper to each child for their banner. Tell kids to write their name on the back of the paper. Then hand out markers and put the rainbow construction paper on the table along with scissors and glue sticks. Tell the children, Each week that we study a characteristic about God we will make a banner. This will help us remember that God is many things and all of them amazing! This week we will add to our banner and make a God is faithful page! Before we begin let s all turn in our bibles and read Genesis 9:15 17. It says, Genesis 9:15 17 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. So God said to Noah, This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.

God promised Noah and all living creatures that He will never again flood the whole earth and to remind us and God, He put a rainbow in the sky and still does to this day after every rain. God is faithful He keeps His promises! Using the construction paper, cut one strip from each to make a rainbow, everyone will get one strip from every color so they can make their own rainbow on the page to remember that God is faithful! What are the colors of the rainbow? (red, yellow, pink, green, purple, orange, blue) After you cut out the strips you can glue them on your banner. Next I want you to write on the banner God is Faithful I will write this on the board so we can all see how it is spelled. Write God is Faithful. When you have done that come up with other things that remind you about God being faithful. You can draw or write them on the paper and/or (take some of the things you found on your nature walk) and glue them somewhere on the banner paper. Then draw pictures using the rest of your felt or markers all the different ways we learned that God is faithful. Let s put all of the verses we read from the bag and place them on the table for people to read and use for ideas. Go ahead and start and if you need help or have any questions feel free to ask! Make sure verses from the bag are placed on the table and then go around room helping with cutting, gluing, verse look ups, or other things. Ensure kids clean up before leaving. If banners are dry kids can take them home or you can collect them and then hand them out to each child at the end with all banners the child will make stapled together to make one huge rolled up banner! 6) God is Faithful Word Puzzle and Color Sheet 10 minutes Hand out an activity sheet to each child, asking them to print their name on the top of the page while you hand out crayons for the children. For small children they may only be able to color the page and not do the activity but they can listen along to understand what is being learned while they color. Say, On the page there are statements that prove God's faithfulness. Let s read each sentence aloud, raising your hand if you want to read, and then we will all write down the underlined word from the sentence below in the blank spaces. Let s read the first one as an example. Follow along, You and your family are loved by God! That is true! You are loved by God. The word AND is underlined and if you look underneath you see it is already written under the first space. From there you write it under the correct number. So above the number one at the bottom of the page write the word AND. Good job, let s try the next one, who would like to read the next sentence? Raise your hand and sit quietly. Good..continue on When finished it should say; God is faithful and always keeps his promises!

Have the children color the page if they haven t had a chance if time, if young children were already coloring move on as they will finish before the other children finish coloring so tell the older children they can take the page and color it at home. 7) Optional Snack: Rainbow Skittles (God is Faithful Rainbow) 5 minutes Hand out Rainbow Skittles (or any chewy candy with rainbow colors to remind the kids that God is faithful. Also hand out a glass of water or juice and napkin for children to clean their hands. As the children eat, ask them, What colors do you see in your skittles? (Children should say: red, green, yellow, purple, etc.) God is faithful and to remind us He gave us the rainbow in the sky. It is a reminder that whenever it rains God will never let the water in the sky flood the whole earth. God is faithful He keeps His promises. These skittles remind us that God is faithful just like the rainbow with all of its colors, these candies show the colors of the rainbow. Let s read Genesis 9:15 17 while we eat our candies. Genesis 9:15 17 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. So God said to Noah, This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth. Remind children to clean up after themselves with the napkin making sure their cups and garbage are put in the garbage and that they clean up any crumbs from the table before going on to the next activity. While they are eating review what they learned and how God is faithful and shows it to us every day! 8) Close in prayer Thank God that He is faithful and trustworthy and keeps His promises. We can rely on Him and we are so glad we can trust God and see His and Jesus example so that we can learn how to act and behave by following their example of perfect faith. Pray that we can always remember that God is faithful to us and is trustworthy, so that we are never afraid to approach God in prayer and can thank God for all He does for us because He will never give up on us. Thank you God for your love and faithfulness! 9) Optional: Songs Sing The "Arky, Arky" Song and God did make a rainbow song. Lyrics are written below as well. Lyrics template can also be printed to show children song lyrics as well.

The Arky, Arky Song The Lord told Noah: There's gonna be a floody, floody The Lord told Noah: There's gonna be a floody, floody Get those children out of the muddy, muddy : Rise and shine And give God the glory, glory Rise and shine And give God the glory, glory Rise and shine And give God the glory, glory The Lord told Noah To build him an arky, arky The Lord told Noah To build him an arky, arky Build it out of gopher barky, barky The animals they came in, They came in by twosie, twosies The animals they came in, They came in by twosie, twosies Elephants and kangaroosie, roosies It rained and it poured For forty daysies, daysies It rained and it poured For forty daysies, daysies Almost drove those animals crazy, crazies, The sun came out and It dried up the landy landy The sun came out and It dried up the landy landy Everything was fine and dandy, dandy God Did Make a Rainbow Red and yellow and pink and green Purple and orange and blue God did make a rainbow He made a rainbow, made a rainbow too Listen with your eyes Listen with your eyes And sing everything you see God did make a rainbow He made a rainbow, made a rainbow too The sun is yellow, the grass is green Look how the sky is blue!
