Member Profile Meet David and Ruthie Eisenberg! David and Ruthie Eisenberg have been in Baltimore for 27 years now, although we were both born and raised in Chicago, where we first met. What brought us to Baltimore was primarily a job offer for David as an internist in the Johns Hopkins system that did not require him to take call on Shabbat or Yom Tov. Since at that time, this was not at all a given in other institutions, and since Baltimore had such a wonderful reputation, we visited and then decided we did indeed want to make our home here. The job turned out to be a very good fit for David who has been in that position since 1990. Ruthie has been involved in grant writing for a number of years and concentrates her efforts primarily on behalf of the Jewish Music Heritage Project, whose mission it is to document and preserve the magnificent legacy of Eastern European synagogue music, an effort which is spearheaded by her father Cantor Dr. Sholom Kalib. We raised our three children, two sons and a daughter, in Baltimore, and they all attended the local day schools. Although we have been in the neighborhood for many years and are familiar with the local shuls, what attracted us to Ner Tamid and motivated us, quite recently, to become members is the open, welcoming atmosphere we experience here. We love the feel of the shul, where everyone is valued, and we enjoy the diversity. We think this is a pretty unique kind of situation here in Baltimore and feel very fortunate to have this kind of opportunity available.
