Lesson As the teacher don t be afraid to add your own voice, props and interacti ons to the story! 15-20 min Community Time: Lesson LL (Lesson Leader): Last week we learned that God teaches us. Today s Bible story tells us that the Bible shows us how to live. The Bible tells about a wise man named King Solomon. King Solomon made good choices for God s special people. God made Solomon wise that means very smart. King Solomon knew about lots and lots of things like plants, animals, birds and fish. People from all over came to listen to Solomon speak because he knew more than any other person. Let s take a walk and see some things King Solomon knew about. Put the Wisdom Walk cards around the classroom. Before you lead children on the walk, teach them this rhyme: Bible Bookmarked to 1 Kings 4:29-34 Wisdom Walk Cards Solomon Writes Proverbs Poster White speech bubble (1 per class), pencil, sticky tack *The Wisdom Walk may be difficult for large classes. Be creative in how you share the pictures such as pulling them out of a bag, etc. Solomon knew about many things Plants and animals, birds with wings! Have children repeat the rhyme as they walk around the classroom. Stop along the way and let children point out the Wisdom Walk cards and other things they see that King Solomon knew about. Have children sit in a circle around the Solomon Writes Proverbs poster. Ask: What did Solomon know about? (Plants; animals; lots of things) Ask: What made Solomon wise? (God) People came from all over to hear Solomon tell about plants, animals and birds. God made Solomon wise. Solomon wanted to share what he knew, so he wrote many songs and wise sayings. (Point to Poster). In this picture Solomon is telling about the many things he knows. This other man is writing down all of what Solomon says. (Attach white speech bubble with sticky tack). Let s draw, in this bubble, some of the things we saw on our walk. (Encourage each child to draw one thing that Solomon knew about that he or she saw on the walk.) A lot of what King Solomon wrote is in the Bible. (Hold up the Bible). The Bible shows us how to live. The Bible also tells us about Jesus. (Open the Bible to the New Testament) Jesus lived many years after King Solomon, but his life is also recorded in the Bible. We can use the Bible to find out more about Jesus and to find out more about God. Circle Time 10-15 min Circle Time: Key Verse Activity Have the children form a circle and sit down. Open your Bible to Proverbs 3:5a LL: The Bible shows us how to live. And it teaches us about God. Our Key Verse from the Bible says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Let s say that together. Bible: Bookmarked to Proverbs 3:5a Paper Hearts (1 per child) Crayons
*If time is running short, have all of the children go look for their hearts at the same time. What does it mean to trust someone? (They take care of me, they love me) Who are some people that you trust? (Mom; Dad; Grandma; Teacher) Today you are going to have to trust me. I m going to hand each of you a heart, and I want you to draw a picture in your heart. Draw a picture of something or someone that you love. Distribute the hearts and markers. As kids draw, walk around and look at each child s picture. Why do you love the person (or thing) in your picture? (They take care of me; it s my best toy.) When the children have finished drawing pictures on their hearts, gather the hearts from the children. Instruct the children to close their eyes. Once their eyes are closed, hide the hearts together somewhere in the room. Make sure the hearts are somewhere the kids can find them, but don t make the hiding spot too obvious either. Once you ve hidden the hearts, encourage the children to open their eyes. Use hot and cold directions to lead the children toward the hearts. Once the group has found the hearts, make sure each child gets his or her own heart back. Then direct kids to gather in a circle on the floor. Centers 20 Minutes How did it feel to give your hearts to me? (OK; I didn t like it.) How did you have to trust me to get your hearts back? (I knew you would; you said you would.) Sometimes it is hard to trust God because we want to do things ourselves. But God loves us and wants to take care of us. He will do what s best for us if we trust him. Let s say our Key Verse together again. Lead the children in saying the Key Verse with you: Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Center 1: What Solomon Made: Ink Print Have each child press a thumb on the ink pad and then onto the page. Have them use wet wipes to wipe the ink from their thumbs. Then let children use color pencils to turn each thumbprint into something Solomon was wise about. Remind children that Solomon knew a lot about plants, animals, birds and fish. Allow children to make as many thumbprint creations as they want. What did King Solomon know about? (Animals; birds; plants) Who made King Solomon so wise? (God.) King Solomon knew God, and God made him wise. Just like King Solomon, we can know God and become wise, too. The Bible is one way that we can learn about God and become wise; the Bible shows us how to live. Center 1: Ink Pads (3 per class any color) Construction Paper (1 per child) Wet Wipes (1 per child)
Center 2: Art Give the children modeling dough, and allow them to create things that King Solomon was wise about, such as plants, animals, birds and fish. Then let children make the shapes of things they know about. Children might make shapes of people, animals or toys. What did King Solomon know a lot about? (Animals; plants; lots of things) Center 2: Enough Play Dough for 8-10 children to use at once. Why was King Solomon so wise? (Because he was king; because God made him wise; because he prayed to God to make him wise.) King Solomon knew God and became wise about so many things plants, animals, birds and fish. One way we can know God and become wise is by using the Bible; the Bible shows us how to live. We can also learn more about God by coming to church, praying, and listening to our parents and teachers as they tell us about God. Closing 15 Minutes Center 3: Snack (8 child maximum at this center) Prepare the snack for the children. Take time to stop and pray before the children eat. This is also a good time to ask children if they need to go to the restroom. Start clean up time with the clean up song: Say, I Am! (tune of If You re Happy and You Know it ) Gather everyone for closing at your classrooms circle. LL: Today we learned that we should use the Bible to learn about God and because it shows us how to live. The Bible shows us how to live because it is filled with special words from God. When we follow and obey God s word in the Bible, we know that we ll please God and live as His children. Today we also learned a Bible verse does anyone remember it? ( Trust in the Lord with all your heart. ) Let s say it together Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Center 3: Graham Crackers Water/Cups Paper Towels/Napkin s
Closing Prayer LL: Dear God, Thank you that we are your children. Thank you for giving us the Bible to show us how to live. We are glad that we can read your word every day and learn more about you every day. In Jesus Name, Amen.
