Story #4 Surah Al-Qasas [Verses 76- ] You need to feel the importance of each story in the Quran! Never think that the situation is not for you or doesn t apply to you! Every story mentioned in the Quran has a purpose and is addressed to each person reading it! When you think like this only then will you benefit from the Stories in the Quran and their wisdom. Why did Allah reveal this story? How money/wealth can deceive a person and take him to destruction It leads to many sicknesses in the heart Allah mentions the effects of money / wealth on the person in several places in the Quran قصة قارون! Surah Al-Alaq #7-8 أ ن ر آه اس ت غ ن ى Because he sees himself self-sufficient. إ ن إ ل ى ر ب ك الر ج ع ى Indeed, to your Lord is the return. Surah At-Taghabun #15 إ ن م ا أ م و ال ك م و أ و ل د ك م ف ت ن ة و الل ه ع ند ه أ ج ر ع ظ يم Your wealth and your children are but a trial, and Allah has with Him a great reward.

And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, "Do not exult. Indeed, Allah does not like the exultant. And do good as Allah has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like corrupters." Did he not know that Allah had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in power and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked. Verse 76 Surah Qasas mostly talks about Musa about his life/childhood, etc Towards the end of this Surah Allah mentioned Qaroon who was from Musa s people (tribe) o This detail has a lot of importance! o Musa was sent for Fir aun (Egyptian) o Musa and Bani Israeel were different people dwelling with the Egyptians (in Egypt) o Because of the torture, Allah commanded Musa and Bani Israeel to leave Egypt o Fir aun and Hamaan were together but Qaroon was from the people of Musa He was Musa s cousin This was a console for Prophet Muhammad Musa was also a messenger of Allah but his enemies were so many Fir aun + Hamaan = not from his people Qaroon = from the people of Musa A console for Prophet Muhammad because even he was going through rejection from people (from his tribe, his people, his family ) There is no intercession from your righteous relatives! Each person has his own value with Allah ف ب غ ى = then he transgressed o He exceeded his boundaries after something o That means that initially he was with Musa (following him) How did he transgress? Because he disbelieved in Allah o Initially, he was a believer with Musa o He witnessed the miracle of the splitting of the sea (when Allah saved the people of Musa from Fir aun) o He was not just an ordinary believer the people used to call him AL-MUNAWWAR because he had a glowing face o He had a beautiful voice in reciting the Tawrah o He was very intelligent and had memorized maximum of the Tawrah o At that time, the belief in the heart had an effect (glow) on the face o He transgressed after Allah guided him o ع ل ي ه م = because his transgression (ingratitude) affected the others around him No directly on them but by spreading the mischief in society Sicknesses in the heart affect the people around you He fell into the trap of jealousy o Because he was intelligent and was good in memorizing, he was jealous of Musa and Haroon o Why did they have a better position than him in the society?!? o His jealousy came after Allah bestowed on him the religion o He didn t appreciate the talents from Allah! Everything is from Allah o There was no need to be jealous! Allah chose Musa + Haroon to be messengers and Allah gave him a beautiful voice o Allah divides the talents among the people according to what suits each one! Page 4

o Use your talents for the sake of Allah to go to the aakhirah (to go to Paradise) o Be satisfied with what Allah has given to you Use your talents as a bridge to Allah Don t look at others and compare yourself to them o He tried to spread rumors to destroy the reputation of Musa and Haroon He wanted Bani Israeel to be in his control o The sickness in his heart ارادة العلو (want to be higher than everyone) Just wishing to be higher than other people Its different than being proud or arrogant One may not even have any qualities to be higher than everyone but his heart just desires to see himself above everyone People call it ambition Surah Al-Qasas #83 ت ل ك الد ار ا ل خ ر ة ن ج ع ل ه ا ل ل ذ ين ل ي ر يد ون ع ل و ا ف ي ا ل ر ض و ل ف س اد ا و ال ع اق ب ة ل ل م ت ق ين That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous. [83] The people who deserve to go to Paradise are the ones who don t want a high position, nor do they want any corruption

و آت ي ن اه م ن ال ك ن وز = Allah gave him treasures o ال ك ن وز = plural not just one treasure o Bani Isareel had escaped from Fir aun so were poor people How did Qaroon get the treasures? Because of the knowledge of chemistry! It s not the chemistry you know now, that chemistry was different. It was a kind of science in which he took something of no value (like sand, dust, etc) and would turn it into something of value (treasure) It was not magic! It was from the knowledge Allah bestowed to him After Qaroon was destroyed, the knowledge was gone Allah took away that knowledge from the world No scientist now can do what Qaroon used to do م ا إ ن م ف ات ح ه ل ت ن وء ب ال ع ص ب = one key of the treasure was so heavy that a group of 7-10 strong men ة had difficulty in carrying it This was one key of one treasure and Allah says he had many treasures He had so many treasures that no one could even count his money Page 6
