If you are reading this checklist, you are more likely to be someone lucky enough to embark on your Umrah journey soon & want to make sure that you have everything you need for the journey. Below is a checklist that will primarily serve as a reference to all the items that you may require during your Umrah trip. You can pick & choose these items to suit your individual budget & preferences. 1 THIS UMRAH CHECKLIST INCLUDES Documents: 2 Islamic Resources: 3 General must-haves: 3 Items specifically for women: 4 Items specifically for men: 5
DOCUMENTS: Passport Airline ticket Hotel booking receipt Travel/transport vouchers 2 Vaccination record Health /travel Insurance certificate (if you have one) Relationship certificate (if you re a woman traveling with a spouse/any other mahram) Saudi riyals and ATM/credit card for emergencies (Keeping cash is better because finding ATM or money exchange centers can be a daunting task. Let alone the long queues you may find once you get there) A small pocket size address book with Phone numbers & addresses (especially of your family, next of kin & hotel information) Shahadah certificate (For reverts only. This can be obtained from your local Mosque) 2-3 Photocopies of all your important documents *Quick Tip: Attach your vaccination record to the inner part of the last page of your passport. So, it does not get misplaced.
ISLAMIC RESOURCES/ REFERENCES OR READING MATERIAL: Mini Umrah guide Duas & supplications from the Hadith & the Holy Quran Pocket Quran (preferably with translation) or a Quran App on your Smartphone List of your own supplications & of those who asked you to pray for them. (Ideally make a note of all your supplications and of your friends & family so you don t forget) 3 GENERAL MUST-HAVES: Travelling first aid kit Medication: Anti-diarrhea medication Cough & cold medications Laxatives for constipation Antacids Anti-allergy (antihistamine (Benadryl)) Personal medications (if you have any pertaining medical condition that requires you to take any specific medicine at certain intervals i.e. insulin, please make sure to take this with you and that you have enough that lasts your journey) (Above mentioned medicines are just for guidance purposes only. You should consult your GP for advice before taking any medicine) Comfortable walking shoes/sneakers/trainers Towels (majority of the 5-star hotels provide bath towels. However, it is good practice to always travel with one. Also, it s better to keep a hand towel in the day time as it gets hot and this will help you wipe your sweat off) A pair of sunglasses A small sports style bag (for keeping shoes in with you while you pray) Unscented wipes (used as wet tissues) Scent free sun protection face lotion Padlocks for your luggage A small bottle of unscented hand sanitizer
Personal toiletries Unscented Petroleum jelly Prayer mat (preferably a thicker as this will help if you have to pray on any rough terrain & the thickness would help you prostrate easily) ITEMS SPECIFICALLY FOR WOMEN: 3-4 Cotton Scarfs/Hijab 4 Abaya (preferably two & plain) (no extra things are needed for ihram since for women, ihram is just the normal covering they do while praying some wear hijab & abaya) Hair tie-backs/ Clips (For long hairs, just braid them & pull them into a bun before putting on a scarf) Small fold-able Scissor (so that you can follow the Sunnah of cutting hair from tips after sa ee) Small bag/purse for on-hand essentials Sanitary napkins/pads Simple comfortable clothes (it s preferable to keep loose cotton shirts & cotton trousers to wear under abaya that is bling-free & light in weight) Pins (to secure hijab and ideally made from cotton) Good amount of Comfortable Cotton Undergarments A pair of comfortable flip-flops
