Page 3 Mary, Queen of Peace Parish May 28, 2017 From the Pastor s Desk In two weeks time June 17th/18th we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. In addition to its basic importance to all Catholics, this solemnity has had special significance for me ever since I was ordained to the ministerial priesthood 19 years ago. I was ordained to the Order of Presbyter (Priest) on Saturday, 13th June 1998, at Saint James Cathedral in Seattle. The next day, Sunday, 14th June 1998, I celebrated my First Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving at my home parish in Lakewood, Washington, Saint John Bosco. This Mass took place that year on the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. It is therefore with special gratitude and joy each year that I celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, as this solemnity marked the first Mass I celebrated following my priestly ordination. Since coming to MQP, I have been pleased to witness and to be a part of a growing interest and enthusiasm for certain aspects of this solemnity that reflect our Catholic devotion to the Eucharist. For several years now at MQP we have been celebrating the Feast of Corpus Christi by observing two special practices that manifest the importance that the sacrament of the Eucharist has for us as Catholics namely, Overnight Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and the Corpus Christi Procession. Once again this year, these two activities will be a part of our celebration of the Body and Blood of Christ, in addition, of course, to our usual slate of weekend Masses. On Saturday evening, June 17th, starting at the conclusion of our 5:00pm Vigil Mass, we will have Overnight Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The consecrated Host will be placed in the Monstrance for adoration, and after the solemn incensing of the Blessed Sacrament, together with the Eucharistic blessing over the people, the Blessed Sacrament will remain exposed for adoration all through the night, until 7:00am on Sunday, June 18th, when the Blessed Sacrament will be returned to the tabernacle in anticipation of the start of the 7:30am Mass. Children are most welcome to participate in the Adoration. Indeed the first hour of Adoration on Saturday evening will be especially designed to include children in a meaningful way. The Corpus Christi Procession will begin at the conclusion of the 11:30am Mass on Sunday, June 18th. After the distribution of Holy Communion, the Blessed Sacrament will be displayed in the Monstrance and placed on the altar. After the solemn incensing of the Blessed Sacrament and the singing of the Tantum Ergo, the Monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament will be carried in solemn procession throughout the Church and out the main entrance, through the plaza and around the perimeter of our facility. All are welcome and encouraged to join in the procession. The procession will stop at four prayer stations prepared by the Romanian, Indian, Filipino and Hispanic parishioners at MQP. At each station a brief Scripture text will be proclaimed, a song will be sung in the native language of the group who prepared the respective station, and a prayer will be offered. The procession will then resume. The procession will conclude by returning to the Church for the final incensing of the Blessed Sacrament, the singing of the Divine Praises and the solemn Eucharistic Blessing. A reception in the social hall will follow. Children are likewise encouraged to join us for the Corpus Christi Procession. We especially hope that those who recently received their First Holy Communion will come in their First Communion attire and join us for the procession. Hope to see you all. PRAYER CORNER God bless you all, Fr. Kevin Please pray for those who are ill: Deacon Jack Luz, Deirdre Brendle, Amy Nash, Anton & Ioana Andries, Karen Tyree & Hilah Bonham And for those who have died: Philip Connelly, Thadeus Than Van Le, Alois Brosch, Shirley Ting, Marilyn Brown, Song Nash, Adrian Omusoru & Jacob Vasquez-Gomez Never doubt the power of prayer. Names will be spoken during Mass for one week and then placed here for three weeks. Please contact the parish office to add someone to our parish prayers.

Page 4 Mary, Queen of Peace Parish Stewardship of Time, Talent & Treasure June 4, 2017 GOD Gives It All, Then Calls Us To Share Become Involved In Parish Life, It Is Filled With Blessings Weekly Stewardship Message In the second reading today, St. Paul reminds the Corinthians, There are different gifts, but the same Spirit; there are different ministries, but the same Lord. How am I using my gifts for the common good? STEWARDSHIP OF TIME AND TALENT OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN THE PARISH Our parish encourages everyone to give at least two hours of their time each week in prayer and service, beginning with Mass. Whatever gifts you ve been given, be thankful...and find a way to share them. Ministry of the Month Stewardship of Talent Renewal 2017! Please plan to join us this weekend, June 3rd & 4th, as we celebrate our remarkable Stewardship of Talent at Mary, Queen of Peace Parish. Living stewardship as a way of life calls us to seek ways to thank God for everything we are have been given. Our gratitude to God manifests itself in how we live our lives. Our annual Ministry Fair is a wonderful way for us to showcase the many ministries at MQP. At the fair you will find new ways to serve and be served as you visit the various ministry booths. It is such a wonderful way for us to share the story of the ministry life of our parish! Again this year we will also be serving homemade Strawberry Shortcake with Kathi s famous whipped cream as a way of showing our appreciation for all the ways parishioners have shared the gift of their Stewardship of Talent in the parish this past year! It will all be so yummy! Please join us so we can say Thank you! I am also thrilled that Denis and Cathy Malone will be our witness speakers! I have great admiration for both of them and so look forward to their witness. Denis and Cathy are people whose lives are a witness to what Christian stewardship and missionary discipleship are all about! Please join with me in holding them in prayer this week as they prepare to share the story of their YES with us. Page 5 Mary, Queen of Peace Parish June 4, 2017 Administration and Stewardship ADMINISTRATOR CORNER Contact Rich Shively at 391-1178, ext. 111 for information on items in this section E-mail: paa@mqp.org Garden and Grounds Coordinator Needed: Many parishioners have mentioned how beautiful the parking lot islands are, and how they add to the general beauty of the grounds here at MQP. Many thanks go to Thao Voba, (and her whole family), Damian Evans (who along with his holy wife do so much for MQP!) and former parishioner Randy LaMere (who hatched the idea of Xeriscape for the islands before he moved for work). Thao and Damian continue to work on areas of the grounds, with a number of volunteers who water, prune and clean the grounds. The Garden and Grounds group has cleanup days, normally about one a quarter, as well as some weekly duties. There are generally several people willing to step up and help, along with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and high school students who park in our lot. What we really need is an overall coordinator of the effort. I would meet with that person at least once every other month, and support the budget process and recruiting of volunteers. If you love to work outside, and want to make a significant contribution to the parish, please consider volunteering as the grounds and garden cleanup coordinator. Please call me (Rich Shively) at the parish office to talk about this role further (425) 391-1178 (ext. 111). Did you know that in addition to the Human Concerns funds that help other organizations, Mary, Queen of Peace shows its commitment to the wider community by making our facility available to local non-profits? The Athletes for Kids and Eastside Friends of Seniors rent space for a very modest monthly fee. We host two Boys Scout troops here, a Cub Scout Pack and several Girl Scout and Brownie meetings are held here each year. We have a support group for families who are helping a family member with mental illness, AA meetings, Block Party Quilter s, Labyrinth Homeschool, Destination Science Camp and Eastside Catholic all have events at MQP. In addition, Skyline High School is allowed parking for at least 20 events each year, and the City of Sammamish about 30 events each year. Our hope is to be a great partner in the community, and still have plenty of room available for the many events that build MQP as a faith community. Thank you for your hospitality to the wider community!!! Individuals and teams strive for greatness in accordance with Gospel values. Adoration The angel (of Fatima) took the chalice saying, Take and drink the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, horribly outraged by ungrateful men. Make reparation for their sins and console your God." How seriously Francisco took these words to heart is illustrated in the remaining years of his life. Francisco realizing that he had but a short time to live, would remain in church where he could make reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is offended. So penetrated was Francisco with the love of what he called "the hidden God," that he often spent many hours on his knees in silent adoration before the tabernacle. From an article by Gerald Francis in www.therealpresence.org Exposition and Adoration WEDNESDAYS 10 A.M. TO 9 P.M.
