The Profession of the Faith The Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, [All bow, at the following text ] and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. 3

Blessing and Dismissal Hail, Holy Queen Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears! Turn, then, O most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. V: Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R/: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Retiring Procession: Love Divine, All Loves Excelling Hyfrydol Used by permission: Onelicense:724996 5

Our Faith A Prayer Before Mass Loving Father, as on my earthly pilgrimage I come to receive Your beloved Son under the veil of a sacrament, may I one day see Him face to face in glory, who lives and reigns with You for ever and ever. Amen. A Prayer After Receiving Holy Communion Anima Christi Soul of Christ, be my sanctification; Body of Christ, be my salvation; Blood of Christ, fill all my veins; Water of Christ's side, wash out my stains; Passion of Christ, my comfort be; O good Jesus, listen to me; In Thy wounds I fain would hide; Ne'er to be parted from Thy side; Guard me, should the foe assail me; Call me when my life shall fail me; Bid me come to Thee above, With Thy saints to sing Thy love, World without end. Amen. A Spiritual Communion Prayer for those unable to receive the Eucharist My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. Our Faith: April Month dedicated to the Holy Eucharist Do you believe in Jesus Christ is the Son of God? Throughout the centuries the following reasons are used to dismiss Jesus: He and his followers are intolerant and oppressive. He denies people and their rights to do what we by nature are entitled to. Question: If these objections are true what are the fruits or their effects? The truth: Through Jesus God created each human person and creation. Jesus only objects to sin and the abject rejection of God and His rights and ways. He died to restore us to the way, truth and life. Everlasting death is destroyed through His Resurrection and given to those who remain faithful to the end. Part of being faithful is teaching His truth; starting within the family practicing four concepts: May I / Thank you / I m sorry / I pray for you. The motive for teaching this is simply LOVE FOR JESUS CHRIST. READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Acts 16:11-15; Ps 149:1b-6a, 9b; Jn 15:26 16:4a Tuesday: Acts 16:22-34; Ps 138:1-3, 7c-8; Jn 16:5-11 Wednesday: Acts 17:15, 22 18:1; Ps 148:1-2, 11-14; Jn 16:12-15 Thursday: Acts 1:15-27, 20-26; Ps 113:1-8; Jn 15:9-17 Friday: Acts 18:9-18; Ps 47:2-7; Jn 16:20-23 Saturday: Acts 18:23-28; Ps 47:2-3, 8-10; Jn 16:23b-28 Sunday: Acts 1:1-11; Ps 47:2-3, 6-9; Eph 1:17-23 or Eph 4:1-13 [1-7, 11-13]; Mk 16:15-20 TODAY S READINGS First Reading The gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Gentiles (Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48). Psalm The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power (Psalm 98). Second Reading God is love (1 John 4:7-1). Gospel No one has greater love than this: to lay down one s life for one s friends (John 15:9-17). LOVE ONE ANOTHER Last Sunday we heard the familiar passage from John s Gospel in which Jesus uses the metaphor of the vine and the branches. In that passage we were told that if we remained in Christ we would bear much fruit. Today s Gospel tells us just what that fruit is: love. Today s second reading and Gospel together create a great hymn to love. The chorus of this hymn is simple God loves us so much that Jesus was sent into the world so that we would have life. The Lord Jesus, who last week told us to remain in him, this week tells us to remain in his love. In a world marked by division and terrorism, the Lord s final words in today s Gospel are a great challenge: This I command you: love one another. 6

DEEP DEBT My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual, and physical education I received from her. George Washington Religious Education News Registration is now open for the 2015-2016 year. If you have a child you would like to enroll in the program, you may pick up registration forms at the Parish Office or on-line at the Saint Thecla website. They should be returned to the Parish Office before the end of May so we can plan for next year. A copy of the Baptism certificate is required when you register. All those wishing to receive a sacrament (First Communion or Confirmation) must be in a program for two years prior to receiving the sacrament. Deacon John s transfer to a new assignment: In the Archdiocese of Chicago priests serve at a parish for a term of five to six years with the possibility for an extension. About ten years ago this change of assignment was also put in place for the permanent deacons who faithfully serve in their respective parishes. A little over two years ago Deacon John s ten years of assignment at Thecla came to a close and we asked for and received an extension. At this time Deacon John will receive a new assignment from the Archdiocese. We are all grateful for his dedication and love St. Thecla to St. Thecla. He will be the homilist at all the Masses on the weekend of May 23-24; and the Athletic Council is forming plans to have a reception after the 10am Mass on the 24th. A reference to last year s March year-to-date collection and to the March 2015 year-to-date budget is also shown. Monthly electronic giving (ParishPay) is included in the totals above. We have fallen $32,391 short of our fiscal year-todate collections budget through March. Disappointingly, our March fiscal year-to-date collections were $25,591 lower than the same period last year. A message from the Finance Council: A short time ago we announced a Special Budget Gap Collection to help reduce this shortfall and the possible impact that lower Sunday collections could have on our parish finances. We are pleased to tell you that many parish families have already generously responded and that to date we have raised over $14,000 through this effort. If you haven t yet had a chance to respond to this appeal, the blue Special Collection envelopes remain in the pews and near the church exits for your use. Your sharing a portion of what God has blessed you with is greatly appreciated and know our sincerest thanks. Will you help us narrow this budget gap? We need to maintain the momentum of the great financial progress we made in recent years. Thank you for giving this your consideration. We are thankful for your continued generosity and we appreciate your active support for this gift of our parish! The guest conductor of this concert, Mark Wozniczka is one of our cantors.
