The First Congregational Church of Greenwich declares itself to be open and affirming; open to all for participation, membership, leadership and employment, and affirming of all who wish to join us as children of God. We continue to give thanks for God s guidance in our journey of faith. W elcome to this service of worship at The First Congregational Church of Greenwich. We hope this time together brings you peace, hope, challenge and joy. Together, let us live into the promise that God is with us. People: Again we say rejoice! Leader: For God has gathered us together People: From all the corners of the earth Leader: To be present now

People: And to know the joyful unity Leader: Of being one with Christ. People: Rejoice in our God always! Leader: Again I say rejoice! CHORAL INTROIT *HYMN Holy, Holy, Holy (*CC) Pilgrim (red) Hymnal 251 OPENING PRAYER O God of joy and comfort we gather in your name to give thanks for all the gifts of this day. Our spirits abound with your gift of joy. Of all the many things we have received from your hand, the flame of joy is most precious. We have also come to this hour of prayer bearing in our hearts the sorrows of our world. Comfort us with your presence that we may be strengthened to continue to proclaim your goodness and deliverance in all the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. This we pray as Jesus taught us saying, LORD'S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. CHILDREN S MESSAGE Rev. Richard S. DenUyl, Jr. (After the Children s Message, as we begin singing Go, My Children, the children and teachers will go to their Rotation Workshops: Kindergarten and 1st Grade go to Red Door in the Preschool; 2 nd Grade go to Green Door in the Preschool; 3 rd Grade go to Room 104, 4 th and 5 th Grades go to the Daniels Center all on the lower level of the building. Your child can just go with the crowd and we will be sure they find their room.) CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Go, My Children (to the tune All Through the Night)

Go, my children, with my blessing, never alone. Waking, sleeping, I am with you; you are my own. In my love s baptismal river I have made you mine forever. Go, my children, with my blessing you are my own. FIRST LESSON T HEARING GOD'S WORD Psalm 27:1-6 Helen Ingraham he Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to devour my flesh my adversaries and foes they shall stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war rise up against me, yet I will be confident. One thing I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple. For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock. Now my head is lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord. From New Revised Standard Version ANTHEM The Summer Choir Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise Eric Thiman (1900-1975) SECOND LESSON I John 15:1-11 Virginia Richards am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.

Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father s commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.
