This class is great for people who already know the Aleph Bet and would like to work on their reading and understanding of prayers, liturgy, and text. (JoHanna Potts) BEIT DIN (Community Service): Are you already a member of Beit Din? Have you been thinking about joining? This is a great time to learn about some tzedekah projects you can do on Sundays from 11:30 noon. as well as some field trips we will be taking! (Pamela Wilcox) BUILDING CHUG : T his year 3rd 5th grade students will have an opportunity to participate in chugim, 6 7 week intensive courses that explore particular topics more deeply. In this chug, we will be building different things, perhaps more benches for the outdoor prayer space, perhaps an ark for outside. Get ready to have some fun! (Scott Wasserberg) CAMP SING A LONG FOR ADULTS: Why should kids have all the fun? Come with your favorite camp song in mind and go back to those summer days and NFTY weekends with some great Jewish classics! (Emily Meyer) DC PAID FAMILY LEAVE CAMPAIGN WITH JUFJ: Over the past several years, Temple Shalom has been able to partner with JUFJ (Jews United for Justice) on a number of social justice issues pertinent to our community including Marriage Equality, the MD DREAM Act, and Paid Sick Days. This year we have an opportunity to advocate for DC Paid Family Leave, which is working to get Paid Family Leave for DC residents as well as MD residents who work in DC. This is an important issue that affects many in our congregation. (Micah Hauptman, Nicole and Ruti Berner Kadish) CLASS MEET AND GREETS: This year at the Community Kickoff every class and all grades (Kids Time through Post Con) will also have their first class meeting. This is the only block of time where students

enrolled in the religious school have an assigned place to be. Please be sure to go to your class! Not enrolled in the religious school? That s okay! Come check out the classes, get to know the students and teachers, and ask any questions you have about the school! Need to register for school? Drop your kid off at his/her class and head to the Main Office! (Religious School Teachers) COMMUNITY KICKOFF QUESTIONS AND SESSION LEADER SIGN IN: We ll be here all day to answer your questions about what s happening, where to go, and to answer any questions you may have about Temple Shalom s Religious School. (Religious Education Committee) COOKING: Come make delicious holiday treats to celebrate the start of 5776! Please note, it is very important to only attend this session once and to only attend a session if your grade is listed! (Liz Dayan) DRUMMING: We will learn some basic drum rhythms and join our voices together for some fun drumming and chant. No previous experience necessary! (Cantor Lisa) HIGH HOLIDAY MACHZOR : This year Temple Shalom, and Reform synagogues around North America, began using a new High Holiday prayerbook. Come explore the Yom Kippur service and become familiar with the new layout, format, structure, and readings. (Rabbi Feshbach) ISRAELI DANCE: Come in for new and old dances! Alex Fertig is back this year to continue teaching us how to connect with Israel through folk and modern dancing. (Alex Fertig) ISRAELI DANCE CHUG : This year 3rd 5th grade students will have an opportunity to participate in chugim, 6 7 week intensive courses that explore particular topics more deeply. Come learn about this chug and begin to learn more advanced dances! (Alex Fertig) KIDS' TIME AT TEMPLE SHALOM: Come to our first Kids' Time session of the school year where we will sing, dance, tell stories, and do crafts as related to Jewish culture, rituals, and holidays suited for 3 years old and younger with an adult. (Jill Greenstein, Jennifer MacAdam Miller) LGBT MEET AND GREET: Come meet other members of Temple Shalom with LGBT family members. Ask questions and make sure we have your contact information for Shabbat at Home! (Nicole and Ruti Berner Kadish) MACCABI BRACELET SALE: Claire Trilling, one of our Temple Shalom students who just began her freshman year at Tufts, has the opportunity to participate on the American Field Hockey Team in the Pan American Maccabi Games this year! Learn more about her participation and help support her journey by purchasing a friendship bracelet that she made! (Loree Trilling) MANAGING TECHNOLOGY USE WITH YOUR KIDS: We all want our kids to be able to use the latest technology for learning, growth, and entertainment. We also want to make sure that they use correctly and safely. Let s talk about how we can best support our children s technology use. (Allison Druin)

MARTIAL ARTS CHUG : This year 3rd 5th grade students will have an opportunity to participate in chugim, 6 7 week intensive courses that explore particular topics more deeply. In this course we will explore and participate in martial arts through a Jewish lens. (Sam Elkind) NEW AND PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS MEET AND GREET: Come meet Temple Shalom members, ask questions, and learn about Temple happenings. (Leslie Rubin) PARODY WRITING CHUG : This year 3rd 5th grade students will have an opportunity to participate in chugim, 6 7 week intensive courses that explore particular topics more deeply. In this chug we will channel our inner Maccabeat and create a parody video for an upcoming holiday! (Emily Meyer) PLANNING NOW: ADVANCED DIRECTIVES: Oftentimes we wait until a crisis to think about measures we want taken in a life threatening situation causing a great deal of stress in our lives. Come learn about why now is the right time to be thinking about filling out an Advanced Directive. Learn about the process, the conversations you need to have, things to think about, and come with questions. (Marty Shargel) RELIGIOUS SCHOOL REGISTRATION: Not signed up for religious school yet? Come learn how to blow the shofar for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur! Bring a shofar if you have one! If not, we'll have some to borrow and also to purchase. (Elliot Zenick) SISTERHOOD MEET AND GREET AND JUDAICA SHOP: Temple Shalom Sisterhood is involved with all facets of Temple life, especially on a day like today. We're co hosting the nosh and we manage the The Judaica Gift Shop.Please stop by and introduce yourself. There are so many ways to get involved with community life as a member of Temple Shalom Sisterhood! (Sisterhood Members) STORY TIME: Come relax in the library with stories from our favorite librarians! (Vivian Kramer, Judy Silverman) TASTE OF YOM KIPPUR (ADULT HEBREW BEGINNER): Have you been coming to services and wishing you could follow along in the prayer book? Did you learn Hebrew once upon a time but don t remember the letters any longer? Come begin to (re)learn the Aleph Bet while preparing for Yom Kippur and also learn about Sunday morning adult Hebrew classes that are happening this year! (JoHanna Potts)

TaSTY JUNIOR GATHERING: Join Temple Shalom's junior youth group for a meeting. Whether you have attended every TaSTY Jr. event or none at all, this is a great time to meet some of the people involved and to get to know Pam, our TaSTY Director. (TaSTY Board) THOUGHTFUL TREASURES: Come do a mitzvah and make a special gift for children and their families who are currently housed in the NIH Children s Inn. This simple act of gemilut chasadim (loving kindness) will really brighten someone s day.
