THE 120-3 credits Description: An intensive study of the six foundational experiences of the Christian life as found in Hebrews 6:1, 2 repentance from dead works, faith towards God, baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. Students will learn how to live in these truths. Course Objectives: Academic: You will quote the following verses: 3 I Corinthians 3:11 3 Hebrews 6:1,2 3 Luke 6:47,48 3 Hebrews 11:1 3 Romans 10:17 3 I John 3:2,3 You will define the following terms: 3 repentance 3 hamartia 3 sin 3 dead works 3 baptize 3 sacrament You will: 3 State the four stages of building upon the Rock of Jesus Christ. 3 Discuss at least five effects of God s Word upon man. 3 Describe the concept of put off, put on in true repentance. 3 Describe how when lust is conceived, it gives birth to sin... (James 1:15) 3 Explain how to use the five senses of your spirit to overcome the power of sin in your life. 3 Discuss the relationships between faith and confession and faith and works. 3 Discuss the purposes of the Law. 3 Describe a methodology for hearing God speak to you through the Scriptures. 3 Discuss three aspects of our baptism into Christ at salvation. 3 Discuss the prerequisites, spiritual significance and power of the sacrament of Christian water baptism. 3 Discuss the biblical concept of baptism in the Holy Spirit. 3 Discuss at least six biblical purposes for the laying on of hands. 3 Discuss the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 3 Biblically describe the nature of our resurrected bodies. 3 Explain the four main principles of judgment according to the Word of God. 3 Describe ways in which judgment comes in this life, according to the Bible. 3 Discuss the future judgment of believers and the wicked. 1

Attitudinal: As a result of your application of the truths you learn in this course, you may recognize certain changes taking place in your attitudes, adjusting them to the following: You will be deeply grateful to your holy God Who not only grants you repentance but diligently calls you back to Him. You will become sensitive to the working of temptation (lust) in your life. You will determine to do nothing on your own initiative, but only what you see the Father doing and hear the Father saying. You will become aware of areas of your life which you are trying to handle with your own strength. Faith will come to you! You will be more aware of your place as a member of the body of Christ, how your actions affect the rest of the body and how the rest of the body affects you. You will count it all joy when you fall into diverse temptations, knowing that the trying of your faith worketh patience...that you may be perfect and entire, lacking nothing. You will take seriously the practice of laying on of hands, always being sensitive to the leading of the Spirit in the giving and receiving of this action. You will be aware of what you are sowing daily that you may reap the harvest you seek. You will reckon your old man dead and your new man alive unto Christ. Behavioral: If you apply the teaching of this course to your life, you will be changed. Some of these changes will be as follows: You will search the Scriptures under the illumination of the Holy Spirit to discover what the Lord wants you to put on in place of the habitual sins in your life. You will respond quickly to the Spirit s conviction, before lust has a chance to take root. You will do only those things you see the Father doing and say what you hear the Father saying. You will cease striving in your own strength to live the Christian life and you will fall on God s grace to give you rest. Standards for Grading Assignments As indicated below, C or 2.0 level work is considered average. Leaders are not average people. You are therefore expected (required) to put forth the effort necessary to demonstrate at least B (3.0) level work or higher on all assignments which you submit. Any which do not will be returned to you with input from your instructor on how you can raise your grade to the expected level. A course grade will not be given until your assignments demonstrate that you have understood the material presented in the course and allowed your life to be transformed by the Spirit and the Word studied the requirements for attaining a B. Your individual assignments (notebooks, tests, reports) will be graded according to the following standards. ese grades will be averaged together to determine your course grade. Remember, CLU is training leaders and leaders are above-average people. Your work will reflect that. D C B A - Indicates barely passing work that is inferior to the average both in quantity and in quality. - Manifests a lack of initiative or sense of responsibility or both. - Average work; either steady work of an acceptable quality, or work of a high quality which is uneven, irregular or fragmentary. - May be mechanically or outwardly correct but shows little reflection upon or personal assimilation of the material. - Intelligently has fulfilled the requirements of this course. - Understands the subject matter presented and has applied it to his life in a limited manner but has not really made the truths his own. - Grasped the material with thoroughness, industry and correctness of detail. - Made the material his own by thinking about it and integrating it, using original ity, natural ability, and insight. 2

You will go to the Word of God when your faith is weak, having confidence that faith can grow in you. If you have not already done so, you will submit to Christian water baptism, receiving by faith the grace of God available through water baptism, reckoning your old man dead and your new man alive unto Christ. If you have not already done so, you will receive the Holy Spirit. You will seek the laying on of hands as the Lord leads. You will sow good seed and reap a good harvest. Because you have the hope that when Jesus appears you shall be like Him for you shall see Him as He is, you will purify yourself, even as He is pure.
