Curriculum WEEKEND RETREAT 1: Friday 12 - Sunday 14 February 2016 INTRODUCTION TO WORLDVIEW Class 1: Gospel as Public Truth The key question asked by this introductory class is, How does the gospel of Jesus Christ affect the way we understand our Christian faith and the way we live it out in the world? Class 2: Alternative Worldviews An examination of worldviews, how they provide meaning to the reality around us and the power they have in shaping who we are and how we respond to various life situations. BIBLICAL NARRATIVE Class 3: The Bible Storyline After analysing several varying worldviews, Christianity is presented as an allencompassing life-system aiding us in a proper understanding of our relationship to God, to man, and to the world. Class 4: Doctrine of Scripture A look at the doctrine of Scripture in order to understand the Bible as God s authoritative word. Class 5: Interpreting Scripture Examination of interpreting Scripture which leads to the question of how we interpret our own lives THE GOSPEL Class 6: Understanding the Death of Christ Questions considered include: How will God reconcile humanity who rightfully deserve his wrath and are at enmity with him? What is the significance of the death of Christ and what did it accomplish?

Class 7: Understanding the Resurrection of Christ A look at how the resurrection of Christ has provided us with untold benefits cancelling the power of sin. Class 8: Understanding the Glory of Christ In understanding the gospel, we see that our union with Christ is the central reality that brings the gospel s power into believers lives. HEART RENEWAL Class 9 & 10: Heart Renewal: Death Here the focus is on personal renewal or how the gospel transforms our hearts. Class 11 & 12: Heart Renewal: Resurrection An examination of the interplay between faith, obedience and dealing with sin in the life of a believer. Self-Counselling Project WEEKEND RETREAT 2: Friday 3 - Sunday 5 June 2016 COMMUNITY RENEWAL Class 14-16: Community Renewal: Death, Resurrection & Glory Learning how to live as part of a community, not simply an individual believer, incorporating a project on providing redemptive feedback. Comments from 2014 Participants After working full time for a number of years Gotham has been like a breath of fresh air. Reminding me of the value, dignity and importance of work. Re-envisioning me to serve God with joy and zeal in my workplace. And in seasons of business and stress at work, the community of peers in my Gotham group have encouraged me to continue with patience and endurance. The readings have stretched me intellectually as well as emotionally and spiritually and the robust discussions we enjoy each week are fun and enlightening. I'd recommend Gotham to anyone who wants to connect Sundays with their Monday to Friday. - Ryan Smartt, Teacher at Scots College The Gotham project has encouraged me to read and explore different ideas and perspectives on the world. I love the discussions the readings generate and really enjoy the process of exploring new ideas with others. My view on the role of my work and my other day to day interactions have been re-shaped and given a wider purpose and framework. I have started to see God's plan coming through in it all, which has really helped me put an appropriate level of importance behind the Monday to Friday. I have also appreciated the opportunity to reflect on my own life and on particular the idols that feed my sin. Working through the depths of my own sin has been confronting but using the provided framework & the group support I have also felt power to change. Being part of Gotham has reminded me of the holiness, generosity and abundant love of our great God and has grown my desire to know him more and more and shape my life in response to him. - Jodie Attard, Ophthalmologist "Gotham feels to me like spiritual bootcamp. It sometimes feels really tough but you slowly start to see the good impact in your life. This year has been a year of grappling with deep rooted sin that I was not even conscious of previously. I have journeyed to a place of brokenness, repentance, and prayerfully begging that God would be my all in all. I no longer want idols in my life to drive my decision-making and behaviour, but instead I want to seek God's will for my life in all circumstances - even when those circumstances include poor health, a frustrating career and broken relationships. These are moments where previously I would have turned to God in anger, and now I want to see them as an opportunity to walk more closely with Him. I'm thankful that participating in Gotham has allowed me the space to reflect, to hear the Spirit's leading and to sharpen my thinking in the context of a wonderful community of brothers and sisters." - Sarah Williams

About City to City Australia City to City Australia exists to help leaders build gospel movements in Australian cities. The vision of City to City Australia is to join with God to see major city centres in Australia worshipping Jesus Christ as Lord so that God will renew them spiritually, socially and culturally to the glory of God the Father. City to City Australia is a resource for church planting and renewal in the cities of Australia. We are new. But we are a part of City to City Asia Pacific, which is, in turn, part of Redeemer City to City in New York City. The movement began out of the vision of Redeemer Presbyterian Church to see a renewal of Gospel-centred church planting in the great urban cities of the world, and is very much connected to the pastor of Redeemer, Dr Timothy Keller. We are not bound to any denomination, but rather to Christ. We know that it will take many churches to reach a city. City to City Australia is under the governing direction of its Board, chaired by Wendy Simpson OAM, and which includes Rev Justin Moffatt, Rev CS Tang, Rev Shane Rogerson, and Mr Daren Armstrong. The CEO of City to City Australia is Rev Andrew Katay. At the same time, we are working with many partners and friends to see Australia's cities transformed by the Gospel. ruling the world as God s image bearers should be seen as stewardship or trusteeship. God owns the world, but he has put it under our care to cultivate it. It is definitely not a mandate to treat the world and its resources as they are ours to use, exploit and discard as we wish So the word subdue indicates that even in its original, unfallen form God made the world to need work - Dr Timothy Keller, Every Good Endeavour
