ROSE OF LIMA PARISH October 29, 2017 BALANCE Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Today s scriptures emphasize the fundamental link between love of God and love of our neighbors, especially those who are most in need. Love of God should compel us to love the people whom God cherishes. Conversely, work for justice and charity for those in need should be rooted in our love of God. MASS INTENTIONS Would you like to pray for a loved one who has died? Would you like a special way to thank God for his blessings? Is there a living person for whom you would like to pray? You can do all this by having them remembered at a daily or Sunday Mass. Mass intentions may be scheduled at the parish office. Mass offering is $10 for Masses. That connection and balance, however, isn t always easy to maintain in our lives. Even in religious orders we find that some Christians are more oriented toward contemplation and prayer, while others are more active in reaching out to those who are oppressed. Today Jesus reminds us of the necessity for both in the life of faith. SHARING FRANCISCAN SPIRITUALITY - BY SR. JO. The scripture readings this weekend call us to deeper relationships of love ~ love for God, ourselves, and our neighbors. This loving bond transforms our care for one another and for the strangers in our midst. We cannot claim to love God if we shun or ignore others, especially those who are most vulnerable. Certainly, the Feast of All Saints and Commemoration of All Souls later this week also remind us of the sacred ties between heaven and earth. So, let us make loving choices on behalf of all our brothers and sisters as one united family through Christ. PRAYER FOR PROTECTION FROM STORMS God our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we humbly stand before you as your children in thanksgiving for your loving care and protection. We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes which may threaten us in the coming seasons. Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in your love and mercy. You alone have the power to command the sea, the wind and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm, and safety. Father, we thank you in advance for you are our only refuge. A group Rosary will be said before the Mass and there will be a reception afterwards in the Kiosk area.
