HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 11, 2016 2013 Bon Venture Services, LLC I am grateful to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he considered me trustworthy in appointing me to the ministry For that reason I was mercifully treated so that in me, as the foremost, Christ Jesus might display all his patience as an example, by those who would come to believe in him for everlasting life. The jubilee Year of Mercy is quickly coming to its close. The word today is a clear reminder for us of God s tender compassion and inexhaustible mercy. Luke 15 is referred to as the chapter of mercy relating the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son, opening the way for the forgiving Father. Paul s gratitude for the mercy God has shown him, can be our prayer as well. Pope Francis constantly reminds us, that we who have known mercy are better able to extend mercy to others. Today, September 11 th can be a moment of mercy and forgiveness for all the hurts we have experienced. Today, can be a moment of gospel forgiveness to be offered to others. CHURCH OF ST. TOGETHER, we will change the world as Jesus did One at a me We supply training, materials & support! Please call our Religious Office @732-223-1161. This past week, the Pastoral Council had its first meeting. It was a most positive start as we talked about the overall picture of the parish and topics from the parish selfstudy (from February, at the start of the Faith in the Future initiative). I asked the members to consider a few items as we move forward, both short range and long range projects. The members of the council are Darcy Garruzzo, Connie Bruce, Linda Wynd, Robert Butler, Kate and Mark Galdieri, and Elizabeth Martin and Roger Estafanos. I am thankful for their willingness to serve the parish in this capacity. This week is the annual convocation for the priests of the Diocese of Trenton. This yearly gathering will begin on Tuesday afternoon and conclude Thursday afternoon. I will keep all parishioners in prayer on Wednesday and Thursday, especially during Masses with the Bishop. (Please realize there will be no daily Mass on Wednesday or Thursday.) Last year, at the convocation, the Faith in the Future planning initiative was introduced to the priests of the diocese. This year, there is a preached retreat -type of convocation with a presenter who will lead with a theme: Priests with the Heart of Jesus. I ask that you please pray for the priests of the diocese during this week, for our continued conversion and the grace from God to make the convocation theme a reality. As we get ready for the presentation of the play Therese: The Story of a Soul, I want to encourage all the families of the parish to bring their children to the performance, particularly those of middle school age who will be Confirmed in the next few years and are looking at the saints in a new way as young adults. This experience of Catholic Culture and the Arts, for this Jubilee Year of Mercy, was scheduled with young people in mind! So save the date, Wednesday the 21 st at 7:00 pm. It will inspire you and encourage all in your faith. I saw the performance last year at another parish and loved it (one of my master s thesis is on St. Therese and I thought it was a great treatment of her life and spirituality). I am hoping that this play will be a great success and a real celebration of God s Mercy in the life of one saint. I ask if there are a few men that can help with set up or take down of the set, please contact me this week (732-223-0287 ext. 308). Set up will start about 1:00 pm on Wednesday the 21 st and take-down will be right after the performance. Please give a call if you can help.
