INTRODUCTION LESSON ONE WHY STUDY THE BIBLE?

1 Prophetic Training By Amy Sollars The Purpose of Prophetic Ministry Prophetic ministry is looking for the treasure Finding treasure in the life of sinners 24But if an unbeliever or someone who does not understand [h] comes in while everybody is prophesying, he will be convinced by all that he is a sinner and will be judged by all, 25and the secrets of his heart will be laid bare. So he will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, "God is really among you!" Prophetic ministry can change people s hearts When I am teaching this I always start in the same place. I want to make sure everyone understands that anyone who is saved can hear the voice of God. You can t get saved unless you did. So not only can you hear God for yourself he speaks to you about other people. Still small voice of God This is the soft and gentle voice of God, which comes as wait on the Lord in prayer or meditation. God speaks this way for personal instruction and encouragement. It comes internally and quietly. It must be judged in light of the desire of our own hearts Prophetic Impressions Thoughts and Feelings The simplest form of prophetic revelation. He uses our thoughts and feelings. What many people think are coincidences are actually valid prophetic impressions from God. Acts 14:9 9 This man was listening to Paul as he spoke, who, when he had fixed his gaze upon him, and had perceived that he had faith to be made well, NAS Acts 27:10 10 And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives. KJV Impressions are the entry-level prophetic revelation for most people. A Knowing Physical Body Not only in the mind and the spirit, God also speaks through impressions in our bodies. Many people receive words of knowledge about healing this way. Luke 8:45-46

2 45 And Jesus said, "Who is the one who touched Me?" And while they were all denying it, Peter said, "Master, the multitudes are crowding and pressing upon You." 46 But Jesus said, "Someone did touch Me, for I perceived that power had gone out of Me." NAS The word perceive means to know by feeling. Emotions You feel in your emotions other people s emotions happy, sad, hurt etc Not everything we feel at all in our emotions is the Lord speaking to us. How we can guard against thinking our own emotions or the Lord is by hiding God s word in our hearts. Hebrews 4:12 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. KJV If we know the Word of God and judge our feelings by it, we will know and discern what is coming from our souls versus what is coming into our souls from the Spirit of God. We must filter our impressions through the more sure word of prophecy, which is the bible. Prophetic Senses Spiritual Sight 2 Kings 2:15 15 Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho opposite him saw him, they said, "The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha." And they came to meet him and bowed themselves to the ground before him. NAS They saw in the spirit with there spirit eyes. Example is seeing someone you think that looks like someone else and get a word for them about that other person. Then later they don t look like that person. I am not really good a describing this sometimes but a lot of time for me seeing in the spirit is not usually like you are seeing someone in the natural (example) but more like your seeing beyond the natural into another realm. If you we could see past this three dimensional world we live in we would see the realm of the spirit. The angels the demons the colors and all sorts of things. Well sometimes the Lord lets his people look into that other realm. So for me when I usually see an angel I see into another realm. I can tell you were they are in the room, what they wearing, and what there are doing. It s real to me but it is different then when I see in this realm. Sometimes we do see things in this natural realm from another. I will get more into that later. Spiritual Hearing Hearing things like wind, or trumpets, or something that in reality not happening. Hearing someone s voice and getting revelation about them. Hearing someone say something and as your listening your receive revelation about them. Spiritual Smell Smelling in the spirit you can smell the presence of the Lord like incense, flowers, fresh bread. You can smell the enemy- foul and yuky.

Spiritual Touch Touching someone in prayer and getting revelation Literally feeling things on your hand that you can t see. Like wind, heat, softness. Spiritual Taste Tasting things like honey, sweetness, bitter, tasting in the spirit. 3 You can all hear the voice of God. So if you can all hear the voice of God you can all hear the voice of God for someone else when we ask Him. What Prophecy is? 1 Corinthians 14:3 3 But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. (from New International Version) Word of Knowledge-is a specific fact about a person, place, or event that was not obtained through natural means. It generally contains no directional guidance, just facts of information; hence its name- a word of knowledge. John 4:16-19 16 He told her, "Go, call your husband and come back." 17 "I have no husband," she replied. Jesus said to her, "You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true." 19 "Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. (from New International Version) Word of Wisdom-is a divine revelation of the will, plan, or purpose of God for a specific situation. It is often directional in nature because it contains prophetic insight on what should be done in a situation. Acts 27-Paul before he went on a voyage on the ship Word of Prophecy- Something to come that has not happened yet. Discerning of Spirits- is the ability to recognize and distinguish between different types of spirits and anointing. Acts 16:17-18 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which show unto us the way of salvation. 18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. KJV

Prophetic Components 4 The word from heaven goes through three stages Revelation- The information that we receive knowledge we can only receive from God an not in the natural Interpretation- The understanding that God gives about the revelation we have received. What God is saying or what does this mean. Application- the understanding of how we implement or utilize the revelation and interpretation that we received. What we do with this. Not our job once we give the word. Now this is the guidelines for prophesy (strengthening, encouragement, and comfort). If the word you receive for someone fits in those three things then it s ok to speak, if its not then you need to seek God on how to make it fit into those three things. Interpretation and Delivery Now once you receive something from the Lord sometimes you have to interpret it. It is just important to ask the Lord the interpretation of something as it is asking for the word. It is important we don t put our own interpretation in it. Don t judge by what we see in the natural. If you don t get an interpretation and you know God wants you to share it with someone then go ahead and give the word. How we say a word is also very important. Our tone of voice. Our wording. Don t say thus says the Lord Mistakes Will Happen When people first begin launching out into the prophetic they will make mistakes. God is not critical and harsh with us as we are learning to minister. Ministering prophetically is obeying God and serving His children in love God does not expect instant maturity from us. We must understand that the Lord not only allows, but also expects us to make mistakes as we begin in ministry. The Necessity of Faith We need to recognize that every aspect of God s work requires us to walk in faith. Prophesying, like any ministry, is a step of faith that usually requires us to get past our feelings and our fears.

5 Since prophetic ministry is telling people things we do not know by our own knowledge, it is like walking on water every time we dot it. If we are insecure in the Lord s willingness to cover us, we will struggle as we give prophetic words. Faith and humility are two primary requirements for prophetic ministry. Cheating is prophesying things you already know in the natural, which is characteristic of a false prophet. However, mistakes are not optional. Although no one enjoys the process, the way most of us learn in through trial and error. So what happens when we see something that is bad? Now we have to say something that is strengthening, encouraging and comforting. 1 Corinthians 14:32 and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; NAS I want you to realize that prophesying or have heavenly experiences do not make you a prophet. Nor are all these things I speak of today limited to prophets. Judging Prophecy The word must be congruent with the scriptures as well as the hearer of the Father God. It must bear witness with the spirit of the one who receives it. The fruit of the prophetic word must be that the person receiving it is brought closer to God and His people. The prophets and leadership should be in an agreement with the word and its interpretation and application. The interpretation of any prophetic revelation belongs to God, not to man. Therefore, we also need the Holy Spirit s anointing to know the meaning of the word as well as what to do with it. Sometimes when we receive a prophetic word, we don t realize what it means until after it has been fulfilled. An example of this is in Exodus 3 where Moses asks God for a sign so that he can know for sure that is it s God who is sending him. The Lord spoke to him and said, After you bring the people out of Egypt, you will worship at this mountain. Jesus prophecy of His own death and resurrection was not understood until after He rose from the dead. It is easy to misjudge a prophetic word by believing that it relates to our immediate circumstances or something close to our heart that we are hoping for. This can be called selective hearing. Occasionally, what people hear from prophesy and what the actual word is are not even close to the same thing. In the book of Exodus God tells Moses that He is going to kill the people that Moses leads out of Egypt because they are obstinate and evil. Moses argues with the Lord that they are the Lord s people He let out of Egypt. After a long debate, God changes His mind and leads the people into the Promise Land. Why would God prophesy to Moses something He didn t really want to do? Sometimes when God speaks to us, He

6 is testing our hearts more then He is determining our destiny. God was trying to see if Moses had the heart it took to lead His people. Traditionally, the church had a single dimensional way in which we judge prophecy. But God is calling us into a deeper relationship with Him. This will lead us into new ways of judging prophetic ministry. We need to realize that God seldom does things all by Himself. He often requires us to be involved with Him to see our destinies fulfilled. The key here is to allow the Holy Spirit to show us what part He wants us to play and what part God has reserved for Himself. Otherwise, we will cause Ishmaels who will persecute our Isaacs. We also need to learn how to receive prophetic ministry multidimensional. In other words, when God speaks to us about doing something new, He doesn t necessarily want us to stop our current activity. Usually, He wants to add to our responsibilities. Keys to Hearing God Dwell in His presence As we cultivate the presence of the Lord in our lives, we are made more aware of when God speaks. Through devotional times, prayer, worship, the word. Focus on God s purposes As we cultivate a deepening commitment to the purposes of God, we position ourselves to receive prophetic revelation from Him. Ask God continually If we ask the Lord from prophetic revelation in order to minister to others He will speak to us. Grow in love towards others As we grow in love for others, we are positioning ourselves to receive prophetic revelation from the Lord. Do a body check Checking your body before you enter a meeting with someone to see if God is talking to you once you there. Become a lover of God s written word The bible is our more sure word of prophecy. If we love God s word and feed our soul on it, we will begin to grow in our sensitivity to His spoken word as well.
