Surah An Naziat (Ayah 1-5) The beginning of this surah is the same as the name of the surah. From ayah 1-5, Allah سبحانه وتعالى swears by the angels and the different tasks that they have. و الن از ع ات غ ر ق ا -1 Ayah The word (نرع) means to pull and (غرقا) means drowning. ) هذه اإلقسامات باملالئكة الكرام وأفعالهم) deeds. All these swears are for the honourable angels and their :(الدالة على) Their deeds are showing سبحانه وتعالى Perfection in their submission to the command of Allah :كمال انقيادهم ألمر اهلل 1- سبحانه وتعالى Hasty in carrying out commandments of Allah :وإسراعهم في تنفيذ أمره 2- وهم املالئكة التي) power. They are the angels of punishment, who are pulling the soul of the disbeliever with. (تنزع األرواح بشدة.(االرواح تغرق فه نزعها) It is as if the person is drowning.(حتى يخرج) out. The impact of this ayah is that I need to follow Allah سبحانه وتعالى and be an obedient slave to Him to protect myself from having a bad end. I need to please Allah وتعالى,سبحانه the angels are only carrying out His commands. This is about the angels, when they are taking the souls out of the disbelievers, it is being taken out with harshness. روحه بعنف) (تأخذ The person feels like he is drowning into the hellfire while his soul is being.(تنزع االرواح فتغرق في النار) pulled. ! و الن اش ط ات ن ش ط ا -2 Ayah The root is -نشط active, energetic, hardworking. The opposite is lazy The angels are called hardworking because of job which they are doing. They are taking the souls out with power..(ونشاط) and actively (بقوة) with power (املالئكة التي تجتذب االرواح) The Angels take out the souls of the believers.(النشط الرواح املؤمنني) actively. The souls of the believers come out with power, quickly.(النزع الرواح الكافرين) harshness. The souls of the disbelievers are pulled out with For example, some women have a long and difficult labor while others deliver their babies quickly and easily. This is decree- it is just a test for them. But at the moment of death, the way the soul is taken out is based on the deeds of the person. The believer's soul is taken out with ease while the soul of the disbeliever is take out with harshness. The angels even tell the bad soul to come out by themselves. May Allah سبحانه وتعالى give us a good end. Ameen. Without any trouble or difficulty it quickly comes out. Imagine, the one who is weak would have difficulty in taking the soul out with ease, but with strength the soul can be pulled out easily and quickly. The soul begins to go out from the body, starting from the feet till the eyes. The eyes follow the soul as it is taken out. ) بسهولة ( ease. The soul comes out with سبحانه وتعالى The first ayah- brings fear and we ask protection from Allah Next ayah- gives hope and we ask Allah سبحانه وتعالى for a good end. و الس اب ح ات س ب ح ا -3 Ayah The root is ;(سبح) swimming, continuous movement. ). املترددات في الهواء صعودا ونزوال) down. The angels who are swimming in the universe, going up and -2-
These are all different angels with different jobs. The angel of death takes out the soul but quickly the appropriate angels take it depending on whether its a good soul or a bad soul. The word سبح means to swim. This implies that while swimming one always needs to move, otherwise he will drown. He needs to make continuos movement. When we say subhan Allah it means we are constantly glorifying Allah سبحانه وتعالى and pushing away any negativity from Him..(املالئكة التي تسبح) swimming. These are angels who are Belief in the angels is a pillar of faith. Their job makes you believe there is a recompense; nothing is random. إ ن ل ك ف ي الن ه ار س ب ح ا ط و يال Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, Surah Al Muzzamil (73:7) Like a swimmer, you are coming and going, busy with your duties and affairs the whole morning. The ayah in Surah An Naziat is about the angels who are carrying out the commandments from Allah.سبحانه وتعالى ف الس اب ق ات س ب ق ا -4 Ayah The root word سبق means to precede (in goodness). There are many ayat in the Qur an about preceding towards the good, to be among the forerunners towards the good, towards forgiveness. Those angels who are preceding anybody else لغيرها) (السابقات in carrying out the commands of Allah.سبحانه وتعالى Nobody can beat them in carrying out the commands of Allah.(تبادر ألمر اهلل) People are also different. There are those who are quick to carry out the commands (السابقون) while others take time. اليمني) (أصحاب Both are good, but the best ones are the forerunners. May Allah سبحانه وتعالى make us among the forerunners. Ameen. For people this also relates to how quickly your heart jumps to Allah سبحانه وتعالى in any situation. In any matter in life, are you first going to Allah سبحانه وتعالى or is your heart running towards the means and?سبحانه وتعالى later goes to Allah -3-
These angels are the ones who precede all others, nobody can beat them. As soon as they are commanded, they carry out the commands of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. All the angels want to be the first in carrying out the commands of Allah وتعالى.سبحانه Israfeel عليه السالم is just looking at the throne of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and waiting for the command from Him When Allah سبحانه وتعالى spoke a word to them, out of Allah s greatness, the angels fell unconscious, but when they woke up they asked, What did our Lord say? They did not want to miss even one second of what Allah سبحانه وتعالى says. The angels are really the forerunners. When we learn this, it should have an impact on us- we need to run and hasten towards all the good. سبحانه وتعالى Imagine, the angels do not have any hisaab, yet they quickly carry out the commands of Allah We have desires that can make us delay. But I need to overcome myself and compete with myself to carry out all the commands of Allah سبحانه وتعالى as soon as they come to me..(تسبق الشياطني في ايصال الوحي) revelation. The angels precede the shayateen in carrying the سبقت الى اإليمان) The angels are the first believers. They preceded everybody in faith and affirmation.(والتصديق و الس اب ق ون الس اب ق ون (١٠) أ ول ئ ك امل ق ر ب ون ( ١١ ) And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). These will be those nearest to Allah. Surah Al Waqiah (56:10,11) The ones who are foremost in doing good in this life will be those who are the foremost in the the akhirah as well. They are the ones who are more close to Allah وتعالى.سبحانه So the way to be more close to Him is to strive to be among the foremost in this life. Next few ayat in this passage tells us that (السابقون) are few from the later generations, but we can never lose hope. Don t deal with Allah سبحانه وتعالى as if its all finished. Have hope, strive and keep moving forward. We all have an opportunity. و الس اب ق ون األ و ل ون م ن امل ه اج ر ين و األ نص ار و ال ذ ين ات ب ع وه م ب إ ح س ان ر ض ي اهلل ع ن ه م و ر ض وا ع ن ه و أ ع د ل ه م ج ن ات ت ج ر ي ت ح ت ه ا األ ن ه ار خ ال د ين ف يه ا أ ب د ا ذ ل ك ال ف و ز ال ع ظ يم And the first to embrace Islam of the Muhajirun (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansar (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhajirun) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allah is well-pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success. Surah At Tawbah (9:100) This ayah refers to the Muhajiroon and Ansaar. They did so much sacrifice. -4-
ف امل د ب ر ات أ م ر ا- 5 Ayah These are all jobs of the angels- complete submission. The root is (دب ر) meaning managing, organise, taking care. Allah is ;املدبر the one disposing the affairs. The word (دبر) means the back of the things. Doing everything arranged, behind each other, its not random, everything is organised..سبحانه وتعالى meaning affairs. It refers to the decree of Allah (أمر) The word Allah سبحانه وتعالى is delegating them to dispose so many affairs of the world- in the skies and on earth. ( (وكلهم اهلل أن يدبروا كثيرا من أمور العالم العلوي والسفلي They carry out the affairs of the rain, the plants, the trees, the winds, the seas, the embryos, the animals, (من األمطار والنبات واألشجار والرياح والبحار واألجنة والحيوانات والجنة والنار) hell. paradise and Allah is,املدبر but He made the angels as the means. He does not need them, but there is a wisdom behind why they are the means. تدبر االمر من) resposibility. From the heavens to the earth, the angels are taking care. Allah gave them that (السماء الى االرض That is why we see that Adam عليه السالم wanted to be like an angel. -5-
