WEOME Jesus hrist is risen from the dead. We are delighted that you have come here to celebrate his victory, which gives us eternal life. God welcomes you no matter who you are and so do we. Whether you are a first-time guest, a friend or relative of a member, or a curious observer from a different religious background, we would like to say thank you for joining us in worship. A NOTE ABOUT WORSHIP We believe that Jesus is the Savior of all. By his life, death, and resurrection Jesus saves all sinners simply because he loves us. That is called the gospel, and it s the good news on every page of God s Word. Therefore, the Bible is not just information about God or rules from God, but the saving power God uses to create and strengthen faith in our hearts and restore our lives. utheran worship places this good news at the center of the worship service with an order called liturgy. In both the Word and sacraments (Means of Grace), in specifically selected Scripture readings, and in carefully crafted and often ancient songs, prayers, and creeds, the liturgy proclaims the good news of Jesus from start to finish. utheran worship is also designed to include the participation of the entire assembly (including children). For your ease and convenience, the order of service is printed out entirely. If a song is not found in this service folder, it can be found in the red hymnal located in front of you. Parts marked are spoken or sung by the worship leader, and the parts marked and printed in bold are spoken or sung by the congregation. FOR YOUR ONVENIENE Quiet Bags are for any parents with small children. They are on a stand in the back of church. Weekly News & Notes are printed in the back of this worship folder. Restrooms are to the left as you walk out the back of church or in the basement. Website: oursaviourwels.org OUR HURH BODY Our Saviour s proclaims the truth about Jesus throughout the world as a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical utheran Synod (wels.net). We are united in faith and teaching with the other churches of the Wisconsin Synod, as well as the churches of the Evangelical utheran Synod (ES). 2

TODAY S FOUS A comeback is one of the most exciting and inspiring things in any competition. The winner has euphoric joy; the loser is stunned in disbelief. Easter is the comeback for the ages, but it s not for a championship trophy. As the Savior of all people, Jesus died to win our forgiveness and free us from guilt. On Easter, he came back from death to make us right with God forever. Jesus victory leaves the devil completely demoralized and defeated. We enjoy his gifts of eternal peace and joy. This year marks the 500 th anniversary of the utheran Reformation. It s not celebration of Martin uther. Rather, we remember how God used this man to restore the truth of his Word, that we are saved by grace alone, faith alone, and Scripture alone. The Reformation has always been about God s truth, the truth that we still preach to this day. This truth is so clear for us on Easter. Here s how uther said it: Our confidence is built entirely on the fact that hrist has arisen and that we have life with Him already and are no longer in the power of death. Therefore let the world be mad and foolish, boasting of and relying on its money and goods; and let the devil rage with his poisonous darts in our conscience; and let him afflict us with all sorts of trouble against all of this our one defiant boast shall be that hrist is our Firstfruits, that He has initiated the resurrection, that He has burst through the devil s kingdom, through hell and death, that He no longer dies or sleeps but rules and reigns up above eternally, in order to rescue us, too, from this prison and death. - Martin uther, commentary on 1 orinthians 15:20, 21 SERVING IN WORSHIP Presiding & Preaching Organist Our Saviour s hoir Preservice Soloist Ushers Pastor Tom Moldenhauer Deb Selland Oki Manthe Dick Gimbel, Don ang, ole Gross, arry Zacher PRAYER OF THE DAY Almighty God, by the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus hrist you conquered death and opened the gate to eternal life. Grant that we, who have been raised with him through baptism, may walk in the newness of life and ever rejoice in the hope of sharing his glory; through Jesus hrist our ord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit be dominion and praise now and forever. 3

The Festival of the Resurrection PRESERVIE MUSI & PASTOR S WEOME Please stand. Easter gives us the undying hope of heaven based, not on our works, but on the life, death, and resurrection of hrist. It is our privilege and honor to worship the living Savior, Jesus hrist. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Dear friends in hrist, this is the day Jesus came back in victory over death. Today we come together to celebrate his resurrection! et us all draw near to him in worship and in praise, in our thoughts and in our prayers. hrist is risen! He is risen indeed! This is the day the ord has made! et us rejoice and be glad in it! ome, let us worship our risen Savior! 4

OPENING HYMN The Strife Is Over, the Battle Done #148 In the battle of good vs. evil, life vs. death, Jesus wins the complete victory over all our enemies. The 5 verses are bracketed at the beginning and end by three bursts of alleluia, an Old Testament Hebrew word meaning, praise the ord. During the season of ent, alleluia is not used in worship, but on Easter our alleluias are back in full force for the ord of life. 5

ONFESSION OF SINS 1 orinthians 15:50 Psalm 116:6 1 orinthians 15:55,57 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Therefore, knowing that we all have a sinful human flesh, we humbly come before God and confess our sins. Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. leanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. By the authority and command of our ord Jesus hrist, I assure you that your sins are forgiven in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. The cross and the empty tomb proclaim God s forgiveness. Whoever believes this simple truth of Scripture has eternal life. The ord is gracious and righteous! When I was in great need, he saved me. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our ord Jesus hrist. SONG OF PRAISE rown Him with Many rowns #341 v 1, 3 rown him with many crowns, The amb upon his throne; Hark how the heav nly anthem drowns All music but its own. Awake, my soul, and sing Of him who died for thee, And hail him as thy matchless King Through all eternity. rown him the ord of life, Who triumphed o er the grave And rose victorious in the strife For those he came to save. His glories now we sing Who died and rose on high, Who died eternal life to bring And lives that death may die. PRAYER OF THE DAY et us pray. Pastor says the Prayer of the Day (at the bottom of page 3). (spoken) Amen. Please be seated. 6

THE WORD HIDREN S MESSAGE hildren are invited up front for a brief devotion with Pastor. FIRST READING Jonah 2:2-9 In my distress I called to the ord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. 3 You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. 4 I said, I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple. 5 The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. 6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, ord my God, brought my life up from the pit. 7 When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, ord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. 8 Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God s love for them. 9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, Salvation comes from the ord. The prophet Jonah prayed from the belly of a big fish, and the ord saved him on the third day. 7

PSAM OF THE DAY Psalm 116 For centuries Psalm 118 has been used for the festival of our ord s Resurrection. We join the multitudes who have praised the risen Savior with these words that were inspired centuries before Jesus rose from the dead. A A A A Refrain The ORD is my strength and my song;*he has become my salvation. The ORD S right hand is lifted high;*the ORD S right hand has done mighty things! I will not die but live,*and will proclaim what the ORD has done. Refrain I will give you thanks, for you answered me;* you have become my salvation. The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;* the ORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the ORD has made;* let us rejoice and be glad in it. Glory be to the Father and to the Son* and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,* is now, and will be forever. Amen. Refrain 8

SEOND READING olossians 3:1-4 Since, then, you have been raised with hrist, set your hearts on things above, where hrist is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with hrist in God. 4 When hrist, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Since hrist has been raised, we focus on the place we have with him in heaven. ANTHEM hrist Has Arisen, Alleluia hoir hoir hoir hoir A While at seminary in Tanzania, Rev. Bernard Kyamanywa wrote this Swahili hymn text. It was translated into English by one of his professors, Howard Olson. This beautiful hymn reminds us that the resurrection transcends time and culture. Jesus victory over death is for all people from every walk of life. The refrain is on the next page. 9

Please stand. Jesus proves his power over death for us and for all time. GOSPE Matthew 28:1-10 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the ord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. ome and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him. Now I have told you. 8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. Greetings, he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me. The Gospel of our ord. Thanks be to God! Please be seated. 10

HYMN OF THE DAY Jesus hrist Is Risen Today #157 SERMON Matthew 28:1-10 THE OMEBAK FOR THE AGES Pick up a copy of the sermon in the entryway or visit: oursaviourwels.org in the sermons bar under the worship tab. Please stand. APOSTES REED I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus hrist, his only Son, our ord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy hristian hurch, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. A creed is a statement of faith. reed comes from the atin credo, which means I believe. The faith God gave us publically and regularly confesses the triune God as ord and Savior. Please be seated. THANK OFFERING 1 orinthians 16:2; 2 orinthians 9:6-8 The members of Our Saviour s utheran join together to do the ord s work in Bismarck and throughout the world in our church body, the WES. Guests need not feel obligated to participate in this offering which supports our ministry. Please help us be a friendly church by taking a moment to fill out the Friendship Register located at the end of the pew. As the offering is brought to the altar, please stand. PRAYER OF THE HURH Throughout the prayer, when Pastor says, ord, in your mercy the congregation responds by saying, Hear our prayer. 11

ORD S PRAYER uke 11:1-4; Matthew 6:9-13 Samuel Medley s incredible Easter hymn uses the familiar words of the Old Testament patriarch, Job. I know that my Redeemer lives is a sentence to treasure above all else every day in our lives as God s people. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Please be seated. HYMN I Know that My Redeemer ives #152 v 1-3, 7 Please stand. THE ORD S BESSING Now may the glorious Father, who by his power raised our ord Jesus hrist from the dead, give you the Spirit of wisdom to know the hope to which he has called you. And may he preserve you in body, soul, and spirit until our own resurrection on the day of hrist Jesus. et all God s people say, Amen! Amen! hrist is risen! He is risen indeed! HYMN I Know that My Redeemer ives #152 v 6, 8 6 He lives, my kind, wise, heav nly friend; He lives and loves me to the end. He lives, and while he lives I ll sing; He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King. 8 He lives, all glory to his name! He lives, my Jesus, still the same. Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives: I know that my Redeemer lives! 12

EASTER GREETINGS FROM PASTOR We have eternal life through hrist. That means we aren t just here together on earth, but we are an eternal family through faith in hrist and his death and resurrection. Because of Easter, we get to be like a family now. We get to support one another through joys and sorrows with the good news God gives us today. I m so honored to be able to share that with you on a regular basis as your pastor. My family and I wish you and yours a very happy Easter celebration. - Pastor Moldenhauer (pastor.moldenhauer@gmail.com 920.285.2881) MORE ABOUT OUR SAVIOUR S Weekly Worship The gospel (good news) of Jesus is not just for hristmas; it s for the whole year. We invite you to deepen your understanding of God's Word and grow in the knowledge of his grace. Bible studies are challenging but engaging. They are based on the Bible but applicable to people's lives today. We have options on Sunday after services, Monday nights for men, and 6pm on Wednesdays. We also have a class offered for those interested in the basics of the Bible and church membership. Sunday School Jesus said, "et the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" (Matthew 19:14) Jesus is not just for adults. God works in the hearts of children as they learn about their Savior and grow faith. Sunday School for children ages 5-14 takes place Sundays after the service. Outreach Events Every so often, we like to do something so that our community knows that we are a church for them. These events include: Trunk-or-Treat (end of October), hristmas for Kids (December), Easter for Kids (a week before Easter). We are also looking into starting a Mornings with Mommy program, possibly this fall. There are other events that we look into from time to time.
