Our Missionary for the Month: Guillermo Berman One of my favorite people, especially for his enthusiastic and deep Christian beliefs is Willie Berman. Willie is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. He serves in his home country of Mexico as the Methodist Border Mission Coordinator based in Reynosa. He has served in this ministry for the last 12 years. One of Willie s passions is evangelism a passion that is too rare in Christendom today. As you might imagine, financial and volunteer support of border ministries along the Rio Grande has lessened significantly in the last few years. Yet there are millions to be evangelized and served. In addition to his evangelistic work, Willie has started a number of new ministries in the cities he serves: sewing classes, wood-working shops for men, medical clinics, scholarship programs, Bible distribution, construction of houses/schools/community centers, breakfast and lunch programs, craft programs, and a Personal Energy Transportation (P.E.T.) Shop. His ministry is worthy of our support. We also will continue to collect donations for recovery in West and medical costs for the victims of the Boston bombings. Make out your check to this church and note either West or Boston in the memo line.

Did you know the Call to Prayer and Self-Denial offering amounts to nearly one million dollars annually and funds national and international projects? The 2013 offering received will equip, educate and empower women and youth with financial knowledge and skills necessary to improve their financial well-being and make informed decisions. Thank you, Doris Saathoff, for your very informative program and to all the members who participated in A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial. If you would like to give to this worthy offering, please contact our treasurer, Mary Heiligman. Thanks to the wonderful Moms and children who helped our members fill the Cleaning Buckets to be used by UMCOR in emergency situations. We met Sunday, April 7, in the Fellowship Hall and completed the task very quickly. We then enjoyed fellowship and pizza! We appreciate Pastor Mel who later delivered the eighteen filled buckets to Kerrville. Fanelle Bohmfalk and Karen Muennink attended Day-A-Part at Gaddis United Methodist Church in Comfort on Saturday, April 13. Harlene Sadler blessed us through song and the spoken word. We also had the opportunity to walk the labyrinth and to later visit Centerpoint UMC. Sunday, April 21 members visited Community Care Nursing Home. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, May 1, at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Mel and his lovely wife Maurie will bring the program, Seeing Grace in Our Workers. Our hostess will be Fanelle Bohmfalk. We hope you will join us! Scholarship Awarded Congratulations to Sydney Fly, who will be awarded a $1,000 NFUMC Scholarship! Sydney excelled at Medina Valley High School. Most of us have written wills directing our physical stuff but much more important is our spiritual legacy. Daniel Taylor teaches how our life lessons bless and encourage the next generation and how to easily share them in story form. Psalm: 102:18 Let this be recorded for a future generation, that a people yet to be born may praise the Lord.
