Genesis 9: And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Why are animals to respond to us? Genesis 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. What did God give to Abraham? Genesis 0:11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake. What did Abraham have fear about? FEAR Compiled by Lewis A. Armstrong Genesis 1:17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is. What confidence should have Hagar felt? Genesis 6:4 And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake. What is God's promise to Abraham? Genesis 31:53 The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac. What was motivating Jacob? Genesis 3:11 Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children. Why was Jacob afraid of Esau? Genesis 4:18 And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God: What evidence exists that Joseph feared God? 1

Genesis 43:3 And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them. Why should they not fear? Genesis 46:3 And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation: How huge was the promise if they did not fear? Genesis 50:19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? Why was there to not be fear? Genesis 50:1 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them. What confidence did they have by not being afraid? Exodus 14:13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. Why did Moses tell them not to fear? Exodus 18:1 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to the rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: How do you know a man fears God. Exodus 0:0 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. How does fear help against sin? Exodus 3:7 I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee. What kind of fear would fall upon the people?

Leviticus 19:14 Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD. How would fearing God keep us from doing these things? Deuteronomy 1:7-30 7 and you complained in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hates us, He has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us. 8 Where can we go up? Our brethren have discouraged our hearts, saying, The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to heaven; moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there. 9 Then I said to you, Do not be terrified, or afraid of them. 30 The LORD your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes, How did God fight for them Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. How does this comfort us today? Deuteronomy 0:1-3 1 When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people. 3 And he shall say to them, Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them; Though outnumbered, what did God do? Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Why should we not be afraid? 1 Chronicles :13 Then you will prosper, if you take care to fulfill the statutes and judgments with which the LORD charged Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and of good courage; do not fear nor be dismayed. If they prospered, why were they to not be fearful? 3

1 Chronicles 8:0 And David said to his son Solomon, Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD God my God will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD. Would a son today be encouraged if his father told him this. Chronicles 17:10 And the fear of the LORD fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat. How were his enemies constrained? Psalm 3:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. What does this speak to us today? Psalm 7:1-3 The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. 3 Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident. What was the confidence expressed here? Psalm 37:1-5 Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. 3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. When we trust in the Lord today, how do we face evil doers? 4

Psalm 55:16-19 As for me, I will call upon God, And the LORD shall save me. 17 Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice. 18 He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, For there were many against me. 19 God will hear, and afflict them, Even He who abides from of old. Because they do not change, Therefore they do not fear God. Why do they fear God? Psalm 56:3-4 Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. 4 In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. How deep is our trust? Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever. a good understanding. His praise endures forever! Why is the fear of God a good thing? Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Why do fools not fear God? Proverbs 3:5-7 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. How will the fear of God help us conduct our lives? Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate. What keeps us from the things God hates? Proverbs 14:7 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to turn one away from the snares of death Explain how the fear of God is a fountain of life? Proverbs 19:3 The fear of the LORD leads to life, and he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil. How does it lead to life? Proverbs 3:17-18 17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day; 18 For surely there is a hereafter, And your hope will not be cut off. How could one be zealous about the fear of God? 5

Proverbs 8:1 The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. What would be said reflecting boldness? Isaiah 41:4-6 4 Who has performed and done it, Calling the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD, am the first; And with the last I am He. 5 The coastlands saw it and feared, The ends of the earth were afraid; They drew near and came. 6 Everyone helped his neighbor, And said to his brother, Be of good courage! What was the result of the fear that that existed? Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Why should we not fear what is ahead? Matthew 10:6-33 6 Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. 7 Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 8 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 9 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father s will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven Why should we not fear man? Matthew 14:5-3 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, It is a ghost! and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid. And Peter answered him, Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water. He said, Come. So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus Why were the disciples fearful? 6

John 14:7 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, O turn one away from the snares of death. Why is fear the fountain of life? Acts 9:31 Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied. What did fear of the Lord lead to for the church? Romans 11:0 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear. What should we have in place of pride and why? Philippians 1:8 and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them and proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.. Why should we not fear what man can do? Philippians :-13 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Why should we work out our own salvation? Hebrews 13:6 So we may boldly say: The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me? How does God help us with fear? 1 Peter :17 Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. What kind of fear is expressed here? 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. Explain love and fear as shown here? Should the world today fear God for what He can do? 7
