With enrollment figures of 57,573 food animal projects, and 31,718 companion and performance animal projects, it is paramount that youth become skilled in animal handling, care and welfare, in addition to food animal safety. All 4 Hers who take a livestock animal project (including lactating animal projects) must complete our Assuring Quality Care for Animals (QA or Quality Assurance) program. Many 4 Hers who take livestock animal projects show these animals at the Canfield Fair; those that are market livestock projects are sold at auction during the fair. In order to ensure that Mahoning County 4 H members are knowledgeable about the animals that they are raising, our Canfield Junior Fair Board will require members to attend several clinics (including weigh ins, taggings, or bandings) prior to being able to show at the fair. 4 H Barnyard Buddies Head Advisor: Damon Knauf 330.501.4822 Project Areas: Steer, hogs Geographical Area: Greenford Blue Ribbon Wranglers Head Advisors: Pat Adams 330.692.3415 Project Areas: All livestock Geographical Area: North Lima Meetings: Held at member s houses, Sunday s at 7:00pm Ellsworth Junior Farmers Head Advisor: Jacob Yeager 330.501.9336 Specialty Areas: Steers, feeder calves, hogs, poultry, rabbits, and sheep Geographical Area: All county Facebook: Ellsworth Jr Farmers Meetings: Held in advisor and member homes; 2 meetings January March; 1 meeting each in April, May, and June; 2 meetings in August

Shooting sports are open to all youth ages 9 to 19 interested in learning and practicing the safe and responsible use of firearms and archery equipment. Shooting sports are taught in a group setting under the direct supervision of certified instructors, which is different than the independent 4 H projects completed with the guidance from parents and advisors. Due to the nature of the program, youth can be denied participation if their behavior or attitude causes unsafe conditions. 4 H Certified Shooting Sports Instructors are adults who have successfully completed the 4 H volunteer application process and weekend training workshop for one of the shooting sports disciplines. Disciplines include: shotgun, archery, muzzle loader, living history, rifle, pistol, and hunting and wildlife.
