TO SELF ATTUNE OR NOT Sheree Rainbolt-Kren 2008 I may be in a minority of Reiki practitioners who believe one can Self Attune to the Usui System of *natural* healing. That's ok with me. I am getting use to walking the unbeaten path. I rather enjoy being one with questions, and other viewpoints. Maybe it gets people thinking about fresh ideas. Some people tell me that if I Self Attune to Reiki, I am not really attuning to the energy called Reiki. This is such an odd thing to say. Take a look at the definition of Reiki. I AM Reiki. I am simply reminding myself - awakening to all that I am, as a part of the vast Universal Life Force and a breath of fresh air. Usui didn t invent Rei and he certainly didn t invent Ki. He simply used his own language to describe something that is a gift for all. If someone wishes to tell me I am not already Rei and Ki, they can, but it's incorrect and I say no thanks on that. People have made the argument, out loud, that the Reiki of Universal Life Force is not the Reiki of Usui. I won t spend time on that one. There are some Teachers who say, "Well, yes, technically, you are Reiki. BUT, when you Self Attune, you are not really tapping into the system known as Reiki, as founded by Usui." Huh? That does not make sense to me. In fact, it is counter intuitive. I have been thinking about this for years now and have not changed my mind. In order for someone like me to go with the flow of another, regardless of how beautiful their crown is, it has to make common sense based on some measure of either science or Love. Dr. Usui, who I use as one of my Healing and Spiritual Guides on a regular basis did not invent Universal Life Force. Like all other inventions, he brought a new light of his own to bear on what is widely known to be Hands On Healing, which was practiced in ancient Greece, long before even Master Jesus brought it front and center. Jesus called it love and compassion and everyday miracles. He said, "THIS you will do and more". He didn't say, "THIS you will do after getting permission from others. Then, you will do more after classes and money orders. Then, after that is taken care of, you will need to protect the lineage of healing love with parchment paper and melted wax. Don't give it to the unwashed masses unless they pay up. Then, and only then, shall you lay your hands on your loved one and offer love and healing. Get their email addy for later, cuz greater things still will you do than that. Jesus had a way of keeping things simple. Buddha was the same. Spiritual (mind) Healing is not a business plan, a church, a corporation, a compound, a Vatican, or anything that would require sharpies. Me thinks thou protest too much at the simplicity it IS.
There are many reasons Dr. Usui was able to tap the healing streams as he did and much of that is impossible to know. We all have unique missions. But, hands on healing is a Universal Principal. It has been used since the first organized civilizations and if I may got out on that last limb please...hands on healing is likely far older than our own human civilization. Hard to imagine we aren't the beginning, middle and end, but we aren't. Usui didn t start it and he won t finish it. That is deeply troubling to some. Therefore, you have more and more intention unfolding that protects Reiki, and limits it to Usui, Japan, and those with his blessing at their Japan chakra, and their friends and clients. I know Sensei Usui. I know him as if he were my own brother. I know the soul of this man. This is NOT the way he intended. God is not Japanese. The Universe is not Japanese, or Jew, or Egyptian, or American. We have been confused on the true meaning of the GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT. You can call it what you want. Language is a tool. But, it's not the word Reiki that heals. The word is powerful. When a word is shared and people agree to it, and act on it, it CREATES. But, ask the mother who rubs her child's tummy at night before bed, what she calls this Mother s touch. She doesn t call it anything. There are no words for a Mother s love. She doesn t draw symbols of aprons and sausages. She doesn t go into any special Mother position. The child aches, and she lays her hands. It is done. Jesus didn t own a stick of sage as far as I know. Don't get me wrong, tools can be very useful, and sometimes I use them. But, we could get straight on the meanings of things first. While I have gratitude and respect for this lovely thing called Reiki, no one owns it. Truly...no one owns it. Don t get confused by the difference between the Name of something, and what it represents. When there comes debate over a name, we have lost our way. When you wall off a word, and tell someone that they do not have the power to be part of it, unless they be part of it a certain way, then you are actually going against another Universal Principal called Love. Love does not discern. Ever. Not only that, but you are imprisoning yourself. Now, you are both locked up together. There is a strong and curious desire to build a brick wall around words and the ritual known as Reiki. In my opinion, nothing could be further removed from the original intentions of Universal Life Force than a wall and its inherent distinctions that serve only to separate and specialize for those who wish/need to feel special perhaps. I see only a couple of motives here, and neither is attractive. Not only can you Self Attune to Reiki, or any other healing system, it is actually a beautiful thing to do. :-) Try it. You can always find yourself a Reiki Master to do this for you if you prefer. You will decide what you want to do, and you get to do that. 2
3 You have always had the power to choose. But, we have given our power to the wise ones, rather than go within, ask, listen, act and learn that we are wise as well. Please remember that Dr. Usui was not attuned by a human. If we are going to walk in his footsteps, then I would imagine it is worth pondering. I suggest that it is indeed one of the very elements of Usui's amazing mystical experience that was to be handed down. The reminder of what is possible for all of us. I have many questions about the details of what happened to Reiki once it left Usui s hands. Like everything else, there is the unspoken, the unwritten and the false. But, that was then, this is now. Attuning through another human (some call them Masters) can be a lovely thing. I have given some very special attunements to people. But, it's very different to say, "Try it, you might like it... Or... Try it; it might shake things up for you... Or... Try it, and see where it takes you"...rather than the statement - YOU MUST BE ATTUNED BY A REIKI MASTER. These are two totally different sound and light vibrations. Which one *feels* right? Use your inner voice, your gut and ask the question. I am not here to say that traditional Reiki attunements are wrong, bad, or don t work. I have never said that. I believe that for some people, it s the ticket. I also believe that such an attunement with someone you love is magnificent. I will continue to do attunements for my loved ones and friends if they ask. But, I also love and believe in the idea of Self attunement. There are no restrictions. Just what resonates for you. You are far better off choosing resonance, than dogma. There would be things play out in latter days that trace back to the question of WHY USUI, Why Japan and Why at that point in time and space. 1922 plays a very big role in our Earth Grid, as does the Asian continent. You may have noticed what is happening to Buddhist Monks in Myanmar - and the people of these areas. An agenda is underway, and certain kinds of signatures must be cleared in order for that agenda to move forward. I won't go into that right now, but please understand that there is much we do not know about the why of anything. Your purest Reiki attunement may very well be Self Attunement. That is my own take on it. I have done both, and absorbed so much more out of Self Attunement. I surrendered the entire process to my Reiki Guides and Angels and it was really lovely. I invited Dr. Usui to lay his hands on me, and I felt them. I am at peace. If you feel a strong urge to be attuned by someone charging you money for an attunement, then the signature of money will become a part of the energy exchange.
Is that a bad thing? Well, think about it a little more. It's not bad as in bad, but it might be something to wash off later if you find yourself with a fingernail stuck in 3D. If you are attuned by a close friend or relative, whose energy is fairly well balanced, then you are fine. If you attune with a complete stranger, you are taking a big risk. If you accept many attunements from strangers all over the internet, that s unwise in my view. But, perhaps, that is what is called for. We just don't know. You are led on purpose. It may very well be that you must first experience a person on person attunement before you will be fully ready for a Self Attunement. This is certainly possible. It may be that, based on your desires to eat every flavor of ice cream before you die, is your dream, and that s that. It is done. Getting back to this Self Attune question and the word Reiki. I was led to Reiki (by word) through my pendulum, from a being calling itself Angel Raphael. I did not learn of Reiki by word of another human being. Neither did Dr. Usui, neither did Jesus, neither did God, or the Universe (or any other name). Please note that I have been using the word Reiki - even with my differing views - and it works. Ask my bipolar son, my daughter who was near death with double pneumonia, and my other son, who is has had more distant Reiki from the bleachers than any kid alive. Ask my dear husband whose own life has been changed. Ask me. I didn't learn about Reiki until Raphael said it would SAVE OUR SHIP. I began using Reiki before being attuned. Am I the special One? No. But, I have long known that I am the boss of myself to a large degree. That s an important vibe. As far as I am concerned, I AM REIKI, and so are you, and so is every living thing. Your decision to use this word, or any other, or the rituals, the symbols, or whatever- is your own decision. Do not let others poke their hungry fingers in your soul in the name of Reiki Righteousness. I am passionate about this because I see the man behind the curtain, working to strip people of their sacred and true power. I have many questions about what is still being taught, even after all we have learned about quantum physics and the way things really work (for now). It's almost as if there is great fear that Reiki will evolve. Or, that others will come along and try to teach something new and will become the new Masters Of This Compound. 4
Everything evolves, especially as you learn more. Reiki is actually a thought stream that evolved from earlier practice and ritual. It s just that it reappeared in a unique culture, with a unique vibe. But, it did not do so for the purpose of keeping it there. Love naturally extends. Christianity not only deliberately kept hands on healing and such ritual to themselves, they actually wrote in their texts, warning people to stay away from this witchcraft. This healing remedy would need pure and fertile ground in which to seed. But, it is my own feeling that there were persons who came along very soon and began to toy with this gift of knowledge. I ask you to please consider taking ownership of your mind, body and spirit. Until you do, you will led around by the ears, with blinders on. You will be hungry for information and the wise ones who bring it. Stand back from this world and these words, and ask yourself if what you are being taught makes sense. Is it kind and loving? Does it resonate with how you would teach another? Does it feel like truth for you in this moment. Too often, we are just too fearful of deciding these things for fear of doing it all wrong and getting left behind with Reiki laughing at us. No one, including me, has the truth for you. Just because something is written down and calls itself the truth doesn t make it so. You will decide what is the truth for you. If someone comes along and tries to rake over your belief system, and you let them, you will find no truth in the broken fragments of the soul that is left. You will only come to know thyself when you own thyself. Many honestly believe that you must be formally attuned by a human being in order to be Reiki, use Reiki, or get your license to call it Reiki. Others have different intentions. It doesn't matter at the end of the day. I am before you as a witness. You don't have to buy it. It's not for sale. It's for Love. :-) May your personal and sacred Reiki journey be forever yours.
