Surah Yusuf Part 3 The whole of Surah Yusuf talks about the story of Yusuf, unlike the stories of other Prophets. This is the best of stories mentioned in the Qur an, and you will see different styles in the story. Allah first talks about the Qur an. And then in Verse 4 Allah starts the story. We need to remind ourselves of the favor of Allah. We are ignorant and Allah is teaching. Even the Prophet did not know until Allah told him. The stories in the Qur an make you have more Tawheed of Allah. The beginning of the story talks about the dream and the son telling his dream to his father. This was a strange dream. The father seemed to know the interpretation of dreams. It was a real vision but there are symbols. There are symbols in the dream that s why there is an interpretation (Tafseer al Ahlam). In the beginning there is a dream, at the end of the story there is a dream. But two different people dreamt the dreams. So true dreams can be from different people. The father advised his son not to tell his brothers lest shaytaan caused division between them. And he continued his advice in Verse 6: "Thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of dreams (and other things) and perfect His Favour on you and on the offspring of Ya'qub (Jacob), as He perfected it on your fathers, Ibrahim (Abraham) and Ishaque (Isaac) aforetime! Verily, your Lord is All-Knowing, All-Wise."
Comes from Yaqub warned Yusuf in the beginning of his advice, now he is giving him glad tidings. Allah chose Yusuf out of all his brothers. Allah knew who could take this big trust. Yaqub attributed everything to Allah. He didn t call Yusuf the best; he said that Allah chose him. We should apply this to everything given to us by Allah, especially things in the religion. Hadn t it been for Allah you would not be where you are now. Who is the one that can choose the best among his servants? because He is the reformer, the nurturer, and the Lord so He definitely would choose the best. He chooses what He wills. Yusuf was a very young child during this incident and he doesn t know what he will face in the future. So Yaqub is telling him not to worry because this is your Rabb. Yusuf needs to go to a trial to be reformed, so this is preparing him. If we apply this to ourselves, we are thankful Allah has chosen us to be a human and on top of that a Muslim. All this blessings should be attributed to Allah. And Allah says in the Qur an: And proclaim the Grace of your Lord (i.e. the Prophethood and all other Graces). Because Allah chose you he will teach you. What type of knowledge? He will teach him some of the interpretation of dreams. comes from (interpret).
comes from refers to dreams but means narration. So it is the dreams which are like narrations. These dreams are Another meaning of books. is he has the interpretation of the divine When you look at any other Messenger Allah always told them of their debates with the people. Surah Yusuf is different; there is no mention of Da wah apart from one part in the story. Yusuf went through different trials which by themselves are Da wah. He went through so many difficulties, but he had so much trust and belief in Allah that his end was the best. We cannot reach a best end until we go through trials. Yusuf will be showered with Allah s bounties. He is being given glad tidings before anything has happened to give him that motivation and to prepare him. Yusuf carried this verse throughout his journey when he went through the trials. If you think your life is incomplete one day it will be complete. The victory is in the end, not the beginning.
Not only on Yusuf but Yaqub as well. He will complete the favor on the family of Yaqub as well. Some say the brothers became messengers, other say they were just righteous men in the end. This is really complete. Just like Allah favored them with Prophethood, this is how Allah completed his favor on their fathers. Ibrahim s son was Is haaq and Is haaq s son was Yaqub. Sometimes you need to remind children of their righteous parents. You need to connect your children with their grandparents in whatever good they used to do. Allah blessed them in the Dunya and Aakhirah. The good house will produced righteous children even if it is later on. You may see that the father is righteous but his children are not, but you may see someone righteous from their offspring. This should make you rely on Allah more. We are trusting ourselves, believing because are good our children will be. We need to take the means but in our heart trust in Allah alone to guide them. There are some people who grew up in the places of Tawheed but when they are older they wanted to change their religion. This is why we need to trust in Allah. Don t expect change now. Allah is Lateef, He can change gradually in a time which is good for them. We have three names here. He said your lord, to show that he will not be with Yusuf all the time, but His Lord will always be there. Don t make your children attached to you; make your children attached to Allah. Yaqub didn t mention anything about himself but he mentioned about Allah.
Allah knows and encompasses everything with his knowledge. Allah knows and His father knows. When you are going through difficulties you can express so much to people, but Allah knows exactly what you are facing and going through. Yusuf did not even complain or think in his heart bad about Allah. He immediately pardoned his brothers. Allah is the all knower and Allah will make it easy and difficult according to how much you are having trust in Allah. Imagine if your daughter has problems at school she will be comforted if you know what she is going through. We are not talking about your family members; we are talking about your Rabb who knows exactly what you re going through. People judge according to what they see outside they don t see inside, but Allah knows. And Allah is wise. Don t think He is oppressing you. If anything happened there is wisdom behind it. In any incident you go through, don t think it is random. Whatever happened there is wisdom behind it and there is no way you could have gotten out of it. Whatever happened to you is to know more about Allah. You learn from your mistakes but if it happened it happened you can t change it. This was the advice of Yaqub to Yusuf. Allah made Yaqub say this to Yusuf. Sometimes one word you say and don t think about it could stay in someone s mind and help them throughout their life. We need to rely on Allah. This is a very important verse. Verse 7 Verily, in Yusuf (Joseph) and his brethren, there were Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) for those who ask Though the brothers were not in the full part of the story Allah mentioned them in this verse.
The whole of Surah Yusuf you can find an answer for all the questions which cross your mind and you ask in the future, related to different matters. Important, essential questions in your life will be answered. There are two types of questioners: (The Questioner is asking a Question). 1) Asking by words. 2) Asking by expressions (body language). Any questions which help you reform you to the best; there is an answer to it in Surah Yusuf.
