Scope and Contents The collection contains numerous business and private correspondence related to the Young family from 1818-1918, including court records for land sales and purchases, payment receipts and deeds. Of special interest is a loan sheet issued from the Confederate States of America in 1861 for the sum of $100 in coupon form. Dr. Thomas Young of South Carolina came to Mississippi on a visit to Port Gibson where he stayed at the home of a friend at Elmwood Plantation. He eventually married the widow of the friend and settled in Port Gibson. The papers were donated by the grand-daughter-in-law of Dr. Young. Number of items: 30
