JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES DEFENDED: AN ANSWER TO SCHOLARS AND CRITICS, 3RD EDITION BY GREG STAFFORD PDF A defense of the teachings and beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses concerning the divine name, the identity of the biblical God Jah, and Jesus of Nazareth. Also included are discussions about various social and other issues, including uses of blood, sexual orientation, abortion, as well as what the Bible teaches concerning mankind's salvation and the freedom and sovereignty of Jah God. This book also contains extended discussions about biblical monotheism, the preexistence of Jesus Christ, and of his identify as God's "Firstborn." Extended discussions of translations issues related to John 1:1, John 8:58, and other important biblical texts are also presented, particularly as these relate to the New World Translation. Finally, the book further introduces the Christian Witnesses of Jah, Jehovah's Witnesses who reject traditions of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society which are not based on the best available evidence. A ready defense against Trinitarianism By Ronald Arndt I have read Greg Stafford's 3rd edition book extensively.it is massive and covers every objection made against his belief that Jah is a one God and that his son Jesus is begotten of Jah.Greg deals with all the trinitarian objections in a thorough and fair manner. More than I can say for his objectors. He deals with simply the bible, the Hebrew language and the Greek language as well. For bible students like myself the book can get very technical and can be difficult to absorb when it comes to understanding Greek tenses and structure.but when comparing scripture with other scripture the end result becomes very clear. Stafford does not deal with the date setting problems of the Watchtower society, especially the "1914 last generation" and 1975 end time prediction as well.neither does he deal with the Watchtower's invisible presence of Christ reigning since 1914 vs Christ's visible return. For some reason he does not deal with this at all? The main crux of Stafford's book is to prove that Jesus Christ is not the one true Almighty God Christians should worship but one of many "gods" of Jah's creation. In a sense Stafford's theology borders more on polytheism or bi theism. That there is one Almighty God Jah and beside him is a mighty god Jesus who is his Son who deserves devotion but not worship that only Jah gets? All in all it is an excellent book and should be read by Trinitarians and non trinitarians alike. BTW, Greg Stafford is starting his own Christian movement called the "Christians of Jah".One wonders if the Watchtower society will dis-fellowship Mr Stafford over this decision? After all if one is not a faithful slave to the Watchtower organization one can be dis fellowshipped very easily. This would prove very embarrassing to Mr Stafford especially after defending the Jehovah Witness movement in his book, would it not?

A CHALLENGING DEFENSE OF MOST MAJOR WATCHTOWER TEACHINGS By Steven H Propp First of all, although this book is entitled "Jehovah's Witnesses Defended" (which was the title of the first two editions), Greg Stafford no longer considers himself a "Jehovah's Witness" in the sense of being affiliated with the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. He wrote in the Introduction to this 2009 book, "Because I have come to learn more about several important teachings and requirements of the Watchtower Society, which I believe to be in serious and evident error, and since the Society refuses to discuss these concerns with me or even openly with active members of its congregations... I no longer associate myself with it or with its organization." (Pg. xiii) He writes, "The Watchtower Society publishes such things knowing full and well its own history of false teachings involving Bible chronology and prophecy, as well as other significant changes which have had significant consequences on the lives of many people." (Pg. 499) Rather, Stafford is the head of an organization he calls "The Christian Witnesses of Jah," about which he writes, "The Christian Witnesses of Jah will not follow the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society in allowing 'deceivers of the mind' to continue 'disrespecting' Jah's name to the extent they have done... Jah's Christian Witnesses are ready to help others and to teach what is true for good reasons in Jesus' name, and for Jah's name..." (Pg. 495) "Christian Witnesses of Jah are Jehovah's Witnesses who have separated from those who care more about loyalty to men, or the size and extent of their human organizations than they do about beliefs that are truly based on the best available reasons." (Pg. 500) "the Christian Witnesses of Jah do not put forth positions about things such as... whether Jah will bring to life any of his faithful servants of old to live in heaven or on earth with him. The answers to these questions belong to Jah, and to Jesus..." (Pg. 531) (Hopefully, that clarifies that issue. Now, on to the actual book review.) Stafford states that "This book is a defense against many claims made by scholars and critics of Jehovah's Witnesses, claims which I believe are unjustified in many respects and at times even grossly unfair and misleading... I have also drawn a clear distinction between those who CALL themselves 'Jehovah's Witnesses,' and those who show by their works they are witnesses of the biblical God, Jah, apart from the commands and unbiblical traditions of men." (Pg. 547) Here are some quotations from the book: "The majority of scholarly opinion is not what is at issue here. What is important are the best available reasons, whether they are provided by a scholar's published analysis and investigation or not." (Pg. 49) "Thus, if a lack of true (original) pronunciation is all that is needed to justify removal of the divine name or a refusal to use it, then what should we do with 'Jesus' and other biblical names that clearly are not spoken according to their original pronunciation?" (Pg. 60) "It has often been said that the 'Tetragrammaton was not used by the inspired Christian writers' of the New Testament. I believe such claims are irresponsible and that they are not based on a broad enough consideration of the best available evidence. Such conclusions are in fact based almost exclusively on what we find in copies of the NT that are perhaps one hundred years or more removed from the original NT writings." (Pg. 95) "Though the NWT Committee may have gone too far in using the divine name in the NT... the NWT Committee certainly has done more than any other Bible translation when it comes to explaining the importance of using the divine name." (Pg. 111) "...if Trinitarians are not allowed to assume Trinitarianism then it is not possible for them to defend Trinitarianism by using only the Bible itself. Every time Trinitarians say there is 'only one God' THEY ARE ASSUMING TRINITARIANISM, since only in Trinitarianism is that 'one God' the Trinity. The Bible does
not present the 'one God' as a Trinity." (Pg. 141) "Therefore, it is not enough for a Trinitarian to simply show us that the Bible may use the words for 'G-god' for one or more of the three Trinitiarian 'persons.' The Trinitarian must defend the understanding they give to 'G-god' each time it is used for such persons, and in fact defend the very concept of 'person' they claim is biblical." (Pg. 147) "Again, the fact that Jesus and his Father are presented as using the same language in similar contexts... is not surprising at all... But the IDENTITIES revealed in John 4:26 and Isaiah 52:6 are not the same." (Pg. 237) "The teaching of Jehovah's Witnesses that the Father is 'the only true God' and that his 'sons' are 'gods,' and even 'God' or 'our 'God' in that they express his will in place of their own, is biblical... The Trinity is certainly not what Thomas had in mind when he spoke to Jesus and acknowledged that he, or he and his Father, are 'his God and his Lord'!" (Pg. 357) "In Luke 24:39 Jesus reassured his disciples that he was not a demonic spirit whom they should fear. To prove this, he manifested a physical body to those in the room just as angels had done with other humans in the past." (Pg. 432) "There is still more evidence from the NT to show that the earliest Christian teaching concerning Jesus' resurrection was that he was raised as 'a life giving spirit' (1 Corinthians 15:45)." (Pg. 441) "The belief that Jesus today has a body of 'flesh and bone,' is not supported by any biblical evidence." (Pg. 445) 3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A Final Evidence of the Name of the One True God. By Abbie Johnson I am pleased to have purchased this book. It goes at length to explain the name of the true God Jehovah, and why The Witnesses use his name. See all 6 customer reviews...
