1742 2015 Saint Luke s United Church of Christ of Trappe July 2015 Newsletter Rev. Dr. Kris Peterson Interim Pastor Worship Schedule petersonka@verizon.net Office 610-489-4933 Office email-administrator@stlukestrappe.org Summer Blended Service 9:30AM 3rd Sunday of Mo. Healing Service 9:30 AM www.stlukestrappe.org From the Interim Pastor Gather, Grow, Go... three little words, but for Christians those three words have the ability to sum up in a nutshell what it means to be one of Jesus disciples. We gather each week in God s house for worship not as a group of people in a club or organization, but as a group of followers related to one another as members of God s family through baptism. We come to worship each week not hoping that God will show up, but knowing God will be there. He will be there in the words of scriptures, in the words of the sermon, in the words of the hymns and anthems, in the faces of our fellow members. Each week we gather just like the disciples of Jesus day, with anticipation to hear his words that encourage and challenge us to grow into the person God created us to be. The Word waters us and feeds us so we, by God s grace, can grow and be open to the ways God is calling us to be his instruments of love in the world. Over the years, I have listened to people describe God s call to them in a variety of ways. To some, it comes as a gentle nudging, to some a persistent push. Some have described it as a series of doors that close while others are opening, that lead them to a different place and the ability to at last say yes to God. No matter how God calls, one thing is for certain. God calls each of us to put the gifts he has given us to use in his kingdom. In this transition time at St. Luke s, how is God calling you? Perhaps God s call comes to you as you take notice of a particular situation or need in the congregation that no one else seems to see. Maybe it s a need that has been identified by our church community and you have the gifts and skills and a willingness to minister in that area. Perhaps another member has noticed your gifts and has invited you to join in an existing ministry. Maybe you see an opportunity to start a new ministry of outreach with others. At the conclusion of worship we hear the words Go in peace. Serve the Lord. With those simple instructions ringing in our ears and God s message planted firmly in our hearts, we go. We go out into the world as Jesus hands and feet and ears and eyes, open to hearing God s voice, calling us to put our faith into action. We are empowered to shine his light into those dark corners and crevices in our own unique ways as we go about living our lives as one of Christ s disciples. Gather, Grow, Go... these three simple words remind us that as God s people we are called to share the love of God with those we meet in our daily lives. It is my joy to journey with you in this interim time as we continue to discover where God is leading us to make a difference in the lives of those in the congregation and in our community. Blessings on the Journey, Pastor Kris July Scripture Readings Date Old Testament 2nd Lesson Epistle Gospel July 5 2 Samuel 5:1-5 Psalm 48 2 Corinthians 12:2-10 Mark 6:1-13 July 12 2 Samuel 6:1-5,12b-19 Psalm 24 Ephesians 1:3-14 Mark 6:14-29 July 19 2 Samuel 7:1-14a Psalm 89:20-37 Ephesians 2:11-22 Mark 6:334,53-56 July 26 2 Samuel 11:1-15 Psalm 14 Ephesians 3:14-21 John 6:1-21 Aug. 2 2 Samuel 11:26-12:13a Psalm 130 Ephesians 4:1-6 John 6:24-35

IT S NOT TOO LATE! Shingles strikes one in three older adults. I m sure you have all seen the television commercials. Shingles (Zoster) vaccine helps prevent Shingles. It is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. The virus stays in your body and can resurface any time as Shingles- a painful, blistering rash. One out of three Americans will have Shingles at some time in their lives. Even if you are healthy, your risk for Shingles increases as you get older. Montgomery County Aging and Adult Services in collaboration with the Montgomery County Health Department have scheduled a Free Shingles Outreach Clinic at St. Luke s UCC on Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 9:00 am to noon. This clinic is by appointment only! If you are a Montgomery County resident and 60 years of age or older, please call Susan Wenrick at 610-292-4539 to make an appointment. TRANSITION UPDATE...In order to call a new pastor to St. Luke s a profile of the church must be done first. This will require input from the Congregation. Stay tuned for more info on this process. 4
