Fowler Catholic Junior High School Weekly Newsletter November 28 - December 2, 2016 Advent Wreath Prayer for the First Week of Advent We begin this first week of Advent by asking Christ to come, to set us free from our sins and from the punishment that we deserve. The trials and tribulations of this world are "brought on" by "our sins"; but we speak here collectively, of the sins of mankind, from the fall of Adam and Eve on, and not of particular dangers that are direct punishment for our personal sins. Christ offers us salvation from our personal sins, and heals the world of the damage brought on by our collective sins. Bestir, O Lord, Thy might, we pray thee and come; that, defended by Thee, we may deserve rescue from approaching dangers brought on by our sins, and being set free by Thee, obtain our salvation. Who livest and reignest, with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen. The first candle is lit, and the prayer for the first week is said: Let us pray. Stir up Thy might, we beg Thee, O Lord, and come, so that we may escape through Thy protection and be saved by Thy help from the dangers that threaten us because of our sins. Term 2 option changes are only permitted until Tuesday November 29, 2016 - If your child needs an option change they can sign up at the office. Parking Lot Thank you to everyone for adjusting to the changes to our morning and afternoon pick-up and drop off. It is very important that each car pull ALL the way to END of the lane they are in, even if there are no cars behind you. Cars are pulling in every few seconds and we need the lanes to be as accessible as possible. Encourage your child to use the crosswalk. The side door by the crosswalk is open from 8:15-8:30am so students can enter the school there. Help us keep our children safe! Visitors in the School Whenever Parents or Visitors come into the school- they must check in at the office. School Council Honours: Students must receive an overall average of 80% in all core subjects (Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Religion and Physical Education) with no mark below below 75% in a core, and no mark below 70% in any other courses. Honors with Distinction: Students must receive an overall average of 90% in all core subjects (Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Religion and Physical Education) with no mark below 85% in a core, and no mark below 80% in any other courses.
Exam Re-writes: Students may have a re-write if their mark is more than 15% lower than their average test mark in that course. Discretion will be used by teacher for other re-writes. Rewrite exam marks are at the Teacher s discretion if they will be used in honours calculations. RSF App Download Instructions Fowler is introducing a mobile app that will effectively replace our tactile student handbook. The app contains many positive features such as our school calendar, the ability to input individual notes per course, customizable student schedules, and the ability to receive push notifications from school sources among many more. The app is available for ios and Android devices. It is not currently available for Windows or Blackberry devices. It is also currently not available on personal workstations.
