1416 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210 Christ the King November 26, 2017 8:30 a.m and 11:00 a.m. The Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW) is the red worship book found in your pew racks. Service music, indicated with a page number, can be found in the front portion of the book. Hymns, indicated by number, are found in the back portion of the book. Congregational responses are printed in bold type. b GATHERING b PRELUDE CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and the sin that clings so closely. Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. Amen. Lord of all, Silence for reflection and self-examination. the demands of your righteousness are too hard for us to fulfill alone, so we rush off with this excuse and ignore your law. You forgive our iniquity and remember our sin no more, so we abuse this freedom as if it were a license to selfishness, self-indulgence and self-righteousness. You give us the gift of grace yet we make it cheap without serious repentance. We are your people, but do we know you as our God? Forgive us, Lord, the sins we know in our hearts. Save us, Lord, from the sins we hide And write your mercy on our hearts. We remain kneeling as the pastor offers God s absolution and forgiveness. Following absolution we stand for the hymn, facing the processional cross as we begin.

GATHERING SONG: Crown Him with Many Crowns (ELW Hymn 855) The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. KYRIE AND HYMN OF PRAISE (This is the Feast) (ELW page 120) PRAYER OF THE DAY O God of power and might, your Son shows us the way of service, and in him we inherit the riches of your grace. Give us the wisdom to know what is right and the strength to serve the world you have made, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. We sit CHILDREN S SERMON (11:00 a.m.) b WORD b FIRST READING: EZEKIEL 34:11-16, 20-24 11Thus says the Lord God: I myself will search for my sheep, and will seek them out. 12As shepherds seek out their flocks when they are among their scattered sheep, so I will seek out my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places to which they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. 13 I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses, and in all the inhabited parts of the land. 14 I will feed them with good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel shall be their pasture; there they shall lie down in good grazing land, and they shall feed on rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 15 I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will make them lie down, says the Lord God. 16 I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them with justice. 20Therefore, thus says the Lord God to them: I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. 21 Because you pushed with flank and shoulder, and butted at all the weak animals with your horns until you scattered them far and wide, 22 I will save my flock, and they shall no longer be ravaged; and I will judge between sheep and sheep. 23 I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd. 24 And I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them; I, the Lord, have spoken. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

PSALM 100 (sung by all) SECOND READING: EPHESIANS 1:15-23 15 I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and for this reason 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, 18 so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. 20God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. 22 And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

We stand. GOSPEL PROCESSION: Lo! He Comes With Clouds Decending (ELW Hymn 435) We sing stanzas 1 and 2.

The Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord. GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:31-46 [Jesus said to the disciples:] 31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. 37 Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you? 40 And the king will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family you did it to me. 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. 44 Then they also will answer, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you? 45 Then he will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me. 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. GOSPEL PROCESSION: Lo! He Comes With Clouds Decending (ELW Hymn 435) We sing stanza 3. We sit. SERMON We stand and sing. HYMN OF THE DAY: O Christ, What Can It Mean for Us (ELW Hymn 431) Stanza 1: Choir Stanza 2-4: All NICENE CREED: Please turn to the back inside cover of your hymnal.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Each intercession will end with Lord in your mercy, to which we respond: Hear our prayer. b MEAL b PEACE The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you. We greet one another with a gesture of peace using these or similar words: Peace be with you. We sit. OFFERTORY ANTHEM: The Lamb Will Be a Shepherd Now (D. Sebesta) The lamb will be shepherd now; things will not be as they have been. Robes washed in blood will be made white; one who was dead will live again. Things will not be as they have been. The lamb will be a shepherd now and lead the sheep to living springs. No more of shepherd who would guide the sheep to springs of dust to drink. Things will not be as they have been. The lamb will be a shepherd now and feed the hungry sheep and lambs. No more feeding the well fed; the rich will leave with empty hands. Things will not be as they have been. The lamb will be a shepherd now, come, shepherd lamb and be our guide. Let blood make our roa bes pure and white, O living lamb, once crucified! Things will not be as they have been, not be as they have been. OFFERTORY THE GREAT THANKSGIVING (ELW page 129)

THE LORD S PRAYER (ELW page 134) We sit. LAMB OF GOD HOLY COMMUNION All are welcome to commune. Communion will be received at the altar rail by intinction; we receive the consecrated bread and dip it into the chalice. Those unable to partake of wine or wheaten bread are assured that the Church affirms our Lord s presence in, with, and under each element alone. Gluten free wafers are available. Please let the Pastor or Lay Assistant know of your need. COMMUNION HYMN

Advent Day - Sunday, December 3 at 9:45 a.m. Come join the festivities as we celebrate the beginning of the season of Advent. If you saved the foam base that you used for your Advent wreath last year, please bring it back and decorate it to use again this year. We are also in need of fresh greenery to decorate the wreaths, so if you are doing any yard work this week, please bring your scraps to church next week. Feel free to contact Elizabeth Roma at 781-910-6987 or elizabeth_huntley@hotmail.com with any questions. Thank You! Thanks to your generosity, St. Andrew's Lutheran was able to leverage $5,100 for Lutheran Disaster Response to help our neighbors in Texas, Florida and the Caribbean begin to recover and rebuild after the devastating storms. This includes $2,050 from the congregation, a $500 match from the Social Ministry Committee and a $2,550 match from Thrivent. Thank you again for your concern for our neighbors in need. College Connect Care Packages The youth group sends care packages to the college students each year in early December during exam time. If you would like to donate items to be included in the care packages, please drop them off by Sandra s office by November 26. This year we have 23 college students. Here are some ideas of things they may enjoy receiving: candy, crackers, gift cards, deck of cards, gum, coffee, ramen noodles, protein bars. Adopt a Child for Christmas! This holiday season, through our partnership with E. E. Taylor, we have an opportunity to once again adopt 65 children in that program and put Christmas smiles on their faces. Here s how it works: 1. Take a tag (or multiple tags if you wish) and look on the back of the tag for the large number. Each tag also contain(s) the child s name, gender, grade, clothing size, their interest(s), and one NEED per child. 2. Write your name next to the corresponding child s name on the sign-up sheet. 3. Purchase gifts based on the child s information. We ask that you include a book or two. 4. Please limit the total gift amount to $45. 5. Return your wrapped gift with the original tag attached and put it under the tree by Sunday, December 10 so we can deliver gifts to E. E. Taylor before their winter break.
