(Devarim 32:3, per Rashbam). Based on this, many Jews have responded to G d s Name in a berachah by stating Baruch Hu uvaruch Sh mo, He is blessed, and His Name is blessed, for at least the past 800 years. There are three situations in which one should not recite this: 1. During a part of davening when one may not interrupt, such as Pesukei d zimra; 2. In response to a berachah which also fulfills an obligation for the listener, such as kiddush, shofar or Megilat Esther; 3. In response to a short berachah, such that the listener might miss the opportunity to say Amen. Because of concern for these three situations, some refrain from reciting Baruch Hu uvaruch Sh mo altogether, but common practice at BAYT is to say it in permissible situations. Note that simply saying Sh mo is inappropriate; the entire phrase should be said.
