To know about a famous Christian (e.g. Mother Teresa) OR to know about a famous place for Christians (e.g. The Holy Land). Hinduism (could be introduced through Diwali). To know that the Vedas scriptures are special books for Hindus and begin to think about why this is. To know a Hindu story (e.g. the Diwali story). To know that there are some customs Hindus follow which are part of their faith (e.g. going to the temple, having a shrine in the home and making offerings, puja.) To know that Hindus go to a temple and to find out what a temple is and what happens there (could include a visit to a temple). Judaism (could be introduced through Passover). To know what the Torah is and how it originated. To know that there are some ways in which Jews express their belief in God Look at the ten commandments and how Jews try to keep them. To know that there are some ways in which those with a Bahai faith express their beliefs e.g. prayer, Holy days, reading the writings of Baha u llah. To know that people with a Bahai faith go to a Temple and to find out what a Temple is and what happens there. To know about the founder of the religion, Baha u llah. 6 Christianity To know what the Bible is and how it originated Focus on an overview of all the different kinds of books that make up the Bible e.g. The Prophets, The Wisdom Books, The Psalms, Gospels, Letters etc. To know that symbolism is used in Christianity to express meaning Look at the clothes worn by Anglican priests/the archbishop and what the different garments/props and colours (which change throughout the year) represent. To know some of the ways in which Christians express their belief in God and discuss a variety of religious views and standpoints e.g. look at and discuss the different rules surrounding food for different religions. To know about and be able to give examples of ultimate questions (including questions about God), to which there are a variety of answers and viewpoints, and to give examples of the experiences and associated feelings that might raise those questions To understand that everyone has personal, moral and cultural values, ideas and commitments that influence their behaviour and for many people these are grounded in religious belief. To understand the feelings of others and to discuss, question and evaluate in a respectful manner. To demonstrate an understanding of order and pattern in the natural world, the ways in which different groups celebrate it, the way in which different religious calendars are linked to the seasonal cycle and to consider their own part in it.
