FROM THE EAST Brothers, I recently had the opportunity to sit in on the visitors session at our lodge. This is a program that was developed by one of our most beloved brothers, Jim Kirby. The sessions are intended to help potential candidates get an idea if Freemasonry is right for them. One of the more important aspects of the program is the involvement of the wives and family members of the prospect. Without support from home, a candidate will certainly struggle to achieve his goals. Our lodge does a fantastic job of including family wherever we can. During this particular evening one of the wives was supportive of her husband s desire to join the lodge and embark on the journey. I was again reminded that we ask a lot of new members. We ask that they trust us. That we will keep their best interests in mind. Most new men have little clue as to what we really do and if they do have a good understanding, how can they explain it to their wives? We really do not have a solid elevator pitch for the uninformed. At least not one that sounds genuine. This nice lady sat through the session. But still seemed to desire an answer that she could say herself to friends and co-workers. Not being one to shy away from my natural male instinct to try to fix everything. Which by the way can often make matters worse but I suspect that is a defective male trait that never mutated out to the dismay of wives everywhere. I stepped up and took the approach of asking her to ask her question again. This was for two reasons, I wanted to be sure I was addressing the right issue and that she had the opportunity to frame her query the way she intended. Her question was, How do I explain what my husband does at the lodge to other people? We always talk about this with the guys but now we have to think about framing it in a way that he can explain it to his wife and she can in turn explain to someone who may have a negative view of Freemasonry. I took the approach of explaining that we don t make men better but we do surround them with positive influences, successful men of all walks of life and we are obliged to be the best friends we can be to him. We offer opportunities to be charitable. We offer philosophy, history, faith, hope and friendship. We offer positions of responsibility to all who want it. This is to develop leadership qualities that one may not normally have access to. We offer guidance in times of hardship and a shoulder to cry on when things seem dire. We stand side by side with him at all times and congratulate him through all of his successes. We present every opportunity for him to be a better man, a better husband, father and role model so that when he steps out into public, he is the one that shines to all who make his acquaintance. So who are we? We are your family, your best friends, your brothers. That s who I think we are. Fraternally, Charley Hogwood Worshipful Master Page 5

FROM THE WEST Brothers, We are at the end of summer but we still have to endure the last two months of 2016. Time has gone quickly and we have accomplished a lot here at Harmonia. I am glad to report that we had great attendance at last months Stated meetings and Degree. Thank you again to all the Brothers for your help and support of our Lodge. I want to extend my warm sincere appreciation to Brothers Mike, Worshipful Tony Petrides, David Riley, and Worshipful Josh Johnson. They made the Lodge of Sorrow very meaningful. Everything was a success. Congratulations to all the Brothers who passed the Fellowship Degree. Also thanks to Bro. Junior Warden, Marco Sevilleja and the entire Degree team for a job well done. Once again thank you all the Brothers and their family and friends who attended our 4th Annual Picnic on October 23rd at John Prince park. There was great turnout and the event was fun filled and had great food. The kids had fun playing games, jumping in the bounce house, and using the dunk tank. I also want give thanks to all the Brothers who gave their time for this event. This month on November 11, 2016 we have our official visitation of our Most Worshipful Grand Master Stanley Hudson to our district at the Lake Worth Scottish Rite. I am hoping for a great turnout for our Lodge. The meal has already been paid for. Please attend the event, Registration is at 5:30 see you there. Furthermore please check our calendar for the next months event. See you all at the Lodge. Ricky Espiritu Senior Warden, Page 6

FROM THE SOUTH Brethren, First of all a Happy Birthday to those who are celebrating their birth anniversary this month. May the Almighty shower you with more blessings and I wish you good health for the years to come. Again, my unending thanks to the Brothers who are helping in the kitchen especially to those who jump in voluntarily. Last month was a busy one preparing for various activities of the Lodge. Kudos to our Brother Jorge Sta Rosa in spearheading the preparation of our annual picnic and to the Brothers and family members who helped for the event's success although it was moved to a latter date due to a typhoon. The event was attended by a great number of Brothers, family and friends. More participated in the Child ID program and blood drive. Great Fellowship! Congratulations to the team of Brothers who made the recent Lodge of Sorrow successful. This coming Nov. 11th will be the official visit of our Grand Master Most Worshipful Stanley Hudson and it will be at Lake Worth Scottish Rite. Come and join to grace the occasion. The meal is already paid for. This will be a great fellowship night Brothers. I conclude with a warm greetings to all, a Happy Thanksgiving! See you at the Lodge Brothers. Marco Sevilleja Junior Warden BEHIND THE SCENES Exceptional Volunteers for November This month s exceptional volunteers are Picnic Chairman Brother Jorge Sta Rosa and the Brothers on the Picnic Committee that set-up, cooked, served, cleaned, conducted activities, helped in many other ways and tore-down. This years picnic was one of the best in recent memory and I truly want to thank Brother Sta Rosa and ALL of the Brothers and their family members that pitched in. Thank you Brothers! Page 7

Off The Shelf Of The Harmonia Library NOVEMBER W:. Bro. David J. Reilly, HPM, Librarian Check out your Harmonia Library! We have grown to over 400 Volumes and 40 DVD s. Masonic Education awaits you on every page of every volume. Talk about it and USE IT! Off the Shelf Harmonia Lodge Library As once told me, So many books so little time In today s world of social media we are blessed by instant response to questions. Reading is still the media to discover what proper questions we should be asking ourselves and looking for. We need to remember that many times social media is reported by men who are no more inept than ourselves. We as Masons must continue to search for truth in the light we find. Brothers I invite you to come to the Library at Harmonia and begin by pulling some books of interest off the shelves and browse. You may find an interest, a question, an answer, and a path that will lead you to questions.
