IBSEN COURIER S o n s o f N o r w a y Henrik Ibsen Lodge No. 3-393 Meetings every 3rd Friday of the month at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Islip Terrace, NY Happy New Year Zone One Challenge: Are you Up for the Task? (see pg. 5) Bowling for Fun March 2nd. (see pg. 5) Happy New Year Now that Christmas and New Years celebrations are behind us, we can begin to focus on all Sons of Norway happenings in 2014. Although we do not have an installation of officers this year, we do have a busy lodge calendar. We are always looking for new thoughts and ideas that would create new energy at our meetings. I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to say tusen takk to the Jultrefest committee for doing an exceptional job of arranging our Jultrefest at Marconi Manor. Although the crowd was smaller than usual, we had a great time. We were especially pleased to have Norge Lodge members join us. My Godson Paul from Moss, Norway was with me as well. He had a great time and will become a member. Paul was so excited when he won the raffle basket that had the Linne Aquavit in it. Tusen Takk also goes to Crystal and Darlene for a wonderful children s Jultrefest. Looking at the bigger picture, we have 2 conventions this year. The District Convention will be held June 11 th thru the 15 th in Albany, New York. The International Convention will be held in Jacksonville, Florida in August. If, we as a lodge, would like to submit a resolution to our District Convention, we need to do it soon. We also have to elect delegates to the convention in February. If you are interested in becoming a delegate, please let me know. 2014 will be a busy year for our Lodge. In addition to the above, we will hold our own elections in November. Lets have a great year, with lots of fun and fraternalism while being dedicated to Sons of Norway. Our next meeting will be held Friday January 17 th at 7pm Come enjoy Darlene s poor man s stew Yankee exchange The mission of Sons of Norway is to promote and to preserve the heritage and culture of Norway; to celebrate our relationship with other Nordic Countries, and provide quality insurance and financial products to our members. I was not aware ( that the ( NYS park was charging for parking, if I knew I would have announced it prior so more car pooling could have been planned or even a lodge contribution towards the cost. Your Lodge representatives to the Zone Asbjørn, Helen & Ken Vice President s Message I certainly hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years holiday. The Johnson's did very well, most importantly my full family was together this year specifically my son and daughter-in-law from California were here this year and we enjoyed our time together. As parents Renee and I were so very happy to see my daughter and her two brothers together with our granddaughters. Having all of us together was the best Christmas present I could ever get; I hope you had a similar gift. Membership is quiet, we still have the sisters on our radar along with Roy P, such stubborn Norwegians, I'm sure you heard that phrase before. For those who attended our Jultrefest, President Helen had family attend. Her nephew Paul from Moss Norway enjoyed himself I think, he even won one of the raffles. We have invited him to join the lodge. Nothing yet but we know where he lives. Hopefully in the spring I'll be able to report that four new members have joined (Lise, her sister, Roy & now Paul) Of course I haven t forgotten Lauren from St. Mark s, I will ask her to join at our Memorial service in May. As a past Vice President of the Third District I have been invited to install the officers of Garborg Lodge this year and as you know they meet on the same third Friday of the month as us so Renee and I will not be at the January meeting. I am honored to have been asked especially that my good friend and brother Roy Berntsen will be installed for a second term. I'll be sure to tell everyone how it went; it should be a lot of fun. The 17th May Committee met in early January and the beautiful Syttende Mai pins are now available. I will have them available via Sister Helen or from one of the other Executive Board Officers. Have a great meeting, see you in February. Ken Ibsen Courier January 2014 Henrik Ibsen Lodge 3-393 4
