11-19-2017 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6 Matthew 25:14-30 A Message from Father Don Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ: Jesus parable in today s Gospel of Matthew informs us that we need to use the gifts God has given us. Perhaps this was important to Jesus because he did not want the servants to mistake being humble with hiding ones skills and abilities. Each of the three servants receives a certain amount of money from the master. The first two servants use their gift wisely and increase their master s investment. But the third servant, out of fear and lack of self-confidence, buries the money. When the master returns, that servant has nothing to offer him but the small amount he received in the first place. Just as the three servants received a certain amount of money from their master, we too receive varying amounts of different and unique talents from God. This week spend some time in quiet prayer and reflection thanking God for the talents and blessings he has given you. Determine how you can use these gifts to give the gospel new life and to reflect your faith each day. During Mass in our penitential rite we pray for forgiveness for what we have done and what we have failed to do. Just as the third servant buried his funds, discern what is holding you back from doing something good with all that you have been given. Trust that God has blessed you with the talents you need, and use them in service to others and for the glory of God.
