Adult Faith Formation Sunday Night Movie Come, watch a newly released movie on Sunday, August 31 st (Labor Day weekend). Say goodbye to summer and come, see and discuss: GOD S NOT DEAD. The story line involves a college freshman, Josh, who finds his faith challenged on his first day of Philosophy class. The professor begins class by informing students they will need to disavow, in writing, the existence of God. While all the other students scribble the words God Is Dead on paper as instructed, Josh finds himself having to choose between his faith and his future. His professor gives a smug and irate reaction to Josh s nervous refusal. Josh must prove God s existence to the class by debating his professor. If he fails to do that, he will fail the class. What would you do? Join us at 6:30 pm Sunday evening, August 31 st, in St. Michael Hall. Bring a snack to share or bring your dinner! Drinks provided! This movie is rated PG. Recommended for teens and above. OREMUS: A Guide to Catholic Prayer continues this week Our Adult Faith formation series on Prayer continues on Monday, August 18 th The session runs from 7pm until 8:30pm in St. Michael Hall. This week will be Lesson Seven: Dealing with Distractions

Page 4 August 17, 2014 Social Ministry Reflecting Christ Transformed by The Eucharist Reaching Out into community Engaging Spirituality This is not a Bible Study, it is not a book study, it is not a self-help group, it is not a recovery or loss group. It does not aim at filling ministry spots or looking for volunteers. It is a practice in holy listening and a way of deepening your spirituality and personal relationship with Christ. EngagingSPIRITUALITY is: a search for an undivided and connected life. an invitation to practice living spaciously and gracefully. an exploration that reinforces our link to God and our responsibility to life. all about connecting widening our circle of care. other-focused offering our presence in concrete ways to needy places. bold and risky discipleship. being present, aware, awake, and seeking to live simply. choosing courageous involvement with life. open to reconciling, healing and growing. resolutely gentle and challenging. For more information contact: Tina at xt118 or twandersee@olmc.org The Discernment is for you to gather information and to experience what EngagingSPIRITUALITY is all about. Then you decide. You don t need to have participated in previous sessions to join us for this one! O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish. We only need to call on Jesus to help us have the best Sacrament of Marriage. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend is October 10-12 in Norfolk. For more information or to apply, visit our website at www.renewmarriage-vasouth.org or contact us at applications@renewmarriage-vasouth.org or 483-3209. Pope Francis says What is the family? Beyond its more pressing problems and its most urgent needs, the family is a centre of love, where reigns the law of respect and communion, able to withstand the attacks of manipulation and dominance of the worldly centres of power. In the home, the person is integrated in a natural and harmonious way in a human group, overcoming the false opposition between the individual and society. Within the family, no one is discarded: both the elder and child are welcome. The culture of encounter and dialogue, openness to solidarity and transcendence have it in its cradle. Healing Ministry Marriage Enrichment The Healing Ministry reaches out to those unable to gather at our parish family table on Sundays. A growing population of Catholics in our community are homebound or living in nursing and personal care centers. Many of these individuals have been active, lifelong members of a parish and they miss participating in the liturgy. The parish s Healing Ministers help to fill that gap. Through the sharing of the word of God and Holy Communion, the minister now carries the care of the parish family to the homebound and sick. We have many faithful ministers who visit our homebound and sick, still more help is needed. Is this ministry of care and presence calling you? Are you wondering how you can help? Please consider joining one of the healing ministries and make a difference to those who are unable to join us for our Sunday Celebration. Please contact Julie Hall at ext. 115 or jhall@olmc.org, to find out how you can help, where help is needed, and what might best fit your schedule.
