Lenten Music Notes As we journey through the season of Lent, a time of preparation for Easter, to reflect a change in the Liturgical Season we sing different music settings throughout the Mass. As a sign of penitence, we sing the ancient Greek chant Kyrie Eleison, (Lord have mercy), Christie Eleison, (Christ have mercy), Kyrie Eleison, (Lord have mercy). The Holy Holy, and Acclamations also change. In conclusion, we sing the ancient Latin Hymn, Agnus Dei qui tollis peccata mundi, miserre nobis, (Lamb of God You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us), Agnus Dei dona nobis pacem, (Lamb of God grant us peace). Rules of Fast and Abstinence During the season of Lent the Church calls us to fast and abstain. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are fast days. Fast means those between the ages of 18 and 59 limit themselves to one full meal and eat nothing between meals. The other meals on a fast day are light meals. All the Fridays of Lent, as well as Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, are also days of abstinence, which means that those 14 years of age and older are to abstain from eating meat. Widows & Widowers Please join us for a St. Patrick s Day Luncheon at Paddy s Loft on Wednesday, March 18th at 12:30 PM. The cost for this event is $26. Society of St. Vincent de Paul But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God. As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Donation Bins, know that you are a sign of God s love to those who are suffering and you give them a reason to believe and to trust. Lenten Activities Stations of the Cross with the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament Recalling the Passion of our Lord Jesus during the season of Lent has nourished Catholics from the earliest days of Christianity. Operation Rice Bowl - Lent 2015 Working together as a faith community, our parish will again participate in Operation Rice Bowl this Lent. Materials can be found at the doors of the Church. Almsgiving As a parish we pledge to share our resources with those less fortunate than we. Each week of Lent $500 from the parish collection will be sent to a charity. This week our donation will be sent to Bethany House. Bethany House is a nonprofit agency founded in 1978 in response to a growing need for emergency shelter and services for women and their children who are caught in the crisis of homelessness. Bethany House has defined its Mission as a belief that every individual needs and deserves to have adequate food, clothing, shelter and safety. These resources should be provided in nurturing surroundings and within a sustaining environment. March 15, 2015 Hi everyone! This is the page for St Barnabas Life Teen. I m Peggy Harnisch your youth minister!! Hi Everyone, Here we are at the Fourth Sunday in Lent. You might be getting tired of your Lenten practices by now. I know that this is where I start to wonder if Lent is going to end! Today s Gospel is a great shot in the arm for us now. It reminds us that God sent Jesus into the world to be the light. Our world definitely needs light! Think of this - we all have choices every day. Some choices are simple, like what to have for lunch, but some choices are huge. Do we believe in God and His plan for salvation or do we believe in what the world tells us - maybe that we only need to think about now. The world tells us we are all that matters. So this week lets think about this: Are we living as if we believe in God and salvation? If we are then it will show in how we act in school and at home. If we re only acting that way at Church or Youth Ministry or in our Catholic School then does it really mean much? The season of Lent really asks us to look at how we pray, how we serve and how we fast. Upcoming Events! Youth Ministry nights: Friday March 20th For me this Gospel is just what I need to keep my focus on what we are doing this for - for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son Have a blessed week! - Peggy Email Peggy for information!!
