Page 3 From Fr. Faucher Dt 8: 2-3, 14-16; 1 Cor 10: 16-17; Jn 6: 51-58 The Feast of Corpus Christi, as a feast in the Christian calendar, resulted from approximately forty years of work on the part of Juliana of Leige, a 13th-century Norbertine canoness, also known as Juliana de Cornillon. She was born in 1191 or 1192 in Liege, Belgium, a city where there were groups of women dedicated to Eucharistic worship. Guided by exemplary priests, they lived together, devoted to prayer and to charitable works. Orphaned at the age of five, she and her sister Agnes were entrusted to the care of the Augustinian nuns at the convent and leprosarium of Mont-Cornillon, where Juliana developed a special veneration for the Blessed Sacrament. The feast slowly spread throughout the world. The Feast of Corpus Christi is one of five occasions in the year on which a diocesan bishop is not to be away from his diocese unless for a grave and urgent reason. By tradition, Catholics take part in a procession following Mass, through the streets of a neighborhood near their parish, and pray and sing during the procession. This is the origin of the famous dance of the Oinkari Basque Dancers, which is danced in Boise on the feast of Saint Ignatius. The readings are deeply traditional. The first reading is the story of the manna in the desert, but from the vantage point of the book of Deuteronomy written centuries after Moses. The second reading is about the Precious Blood, and the Gospel is from the famous Chapter 6 of John s Gospel. Always remember that in John s Gospel there is no story of the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper, but rather a story of washing of the feet. John s story of the Eucharist is the powerful Chapter 6, where Jesus explains the Eucharist and most people leave him. The apostles would leave him too, but they say, We have no where to go. All of this gives us a great deal to think and pray about. Fr. Su amigo y servidor~ Padre Jesús Camacho First Communion: Congratulations! On behalf of the whole parish, my staff and I sincerely welcome the children and youth who this Sunday are receiving First Holy Communion of the Body and Blood of Christ. Also congratulations to our team of catechists who prepared them with love and devotion. A word of gratitude and congratulations to the parents who accompanied the preparation of their children and worked with the parish to make the First Communion of their children a true celebration of faith and community. May the Lord fill you with abundant blessings. Your friend and servant~ Padre Jesus Camacho

Page 4 RENEW OR SUBSCRIBE TODAY! Have you seen the NEW Idaho Catholic Register? It has more profiles, more pictures and more faith-promoting stories about the people in our diocese. The good news: A year s subscription is only $17 and if you subscribe through St. Mary s Parish, the parish gets $3 back to use as it sees fit. The not so good news: Each parish is assessed a certain amount for the ICR based on parish enrollment. Our assessment is over $10,000. If we do not meet our $10,000 goal, the parish must make up the difference. So, bless your life AND help your parish by subscribing today. Envelopes are available in the narthex and at the parish office or you may simply indicate Idaho Catholic Register on your check and put the check in the offering basket. The parish will pass along your mailing information to the ICR. JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU Join us, the Mercy Warriors You are invited to be part of this new ministry of St. Mary s Parish. It takes just a few minutes to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, wherever your location, for those near death in our parish family. You will be notified by email or TEXT messaging of impending need.
