FUN AND CREATIVE LESSONS ON THE EARLY MIDDLE AGES This package provides students with everything they need to complete an in- depth Social Studies unit on the Early Middle Ages!! A complete unit just print and teach!!! All activities are classroom tested and include creative handouts, information sheets, detailed instructions, templates, and more! All handouts are formatted to be cut and glued into a keytab or notebook. At the end of the unit, students will have created a detailed study guide to help them review the material! Of course, if you choose not to do this, all handouts can be used as is as well. This package includes the following:

Early Middle Ages Timeline - A fill in the blank timeline table is included. An answer key is also included. Students use answer key to fill in the blanks on their chart. Completed timeline note sheet can then be referred back to throughout the unit. An excellent document to begin the unit with! Early Middle Ages Title Page Template- This template includes a bold title for students to color, and a series of different blank boxes for students to fill in with information about the Early Middle Ages. Students can use this as a pre-reading reading activity, where they fill the blanks in with images they think the unit will be about. Alternately, students can fill in the boxes as they work through the unit, drawing images of things they learn. A great alternative to the typical title page! Mediterranean Civilization Graphic Organizer Notes An answer key template and blank student template are included. Students fill in their templates with notes by looking at the answer key, helping them answer the question What conditions led to civilization in the Mediterranean?.. When complete, students can staple the pages together into a small book. Students can research information for each page, or can use information from the previous notes to help them fill out their books.

Early Middle Ages Pretest - This Pretest covers information from the included notes on the Fall of Rome, The Franks and Pepin the Short, Charlemagne, The Anglo Saxons, and The Vikings. All of the questions come directly from the notes, so it is easy to have students mark their own Pretests by having them refer back to their class notes.

THE RIGHT CLIMATE -The Mediterranean climate had everything necessary for survival: fertile soil, long growing season, not too hot or cold, sunshine and rain. GOOD TRANSPORTATION What conditions led to a civilization in the Mediterranean? -Transportation networks made military conquest, trade, and exchange of ideas possible. -Mediterranean Sea was the highway of the Mediterranean world. -Military built large network of roads POWERFUL MILITARY -Military strength allowed Romans to increase trade networks. -Thriving trade economy made Rome wealthy. -As Romans became rich, so did government, through taxation. A wealthy empire can run a strong, stable government.
