CELEBRATE THE END OF LENT DYNGUS DAY, WET MONDAY, FOOL S DAY In case you have otherwise heard, the Easter Monday brunch at the Jesuit Centre has been cancelled. We understand that this may be a time for families to come together, some may have work or have traveled, and some may just need that extra bit of sleep. We will try and schedule another event at a better time in the future.

RAMBLINGS FROM THE REVEREND REDACTOR Tomorrow, the day after Easter, is a day of special celebration in many parts of the world. In several cities where I have lived, it is known as Dyngus Day, a variation on a Polish celebration. We are going to have a small version of this celebration at the Jesuit Center tomorrow, Monday, following the 8:30 AM Mass. We hope it will be a small way to celebrate the end of Lent, to celebrate the Resurrection, and to celebrate our parish community. This has been cancelled As we have been sacrificing during Lent, so now it is absolutely right and proper and necessary to celebrate. Ours is a religion of celebration we celebrate Mass each week, we celebrate the special events in our lives with ceremonies in church our faith is based on the Resurrection, and what better reason could there be for celebration? So, in the same way as I have been encouraging you to spend time with God, to commit yourself to this season of Lent now completed, I want to even more strongly encourage you to go forth and celebrate. Share the joy of your faith and the Easter miracle with others. One thing that emerges clearly as we read the Gospels is that being a Christian is not simply a matter of our personal and individual relationship with Christ. That is important that is crucial. But once we get to that point, then our obligation is to share our faith. Over and over again, Christ tells his followers that they have to go forth, they have to spread the word to others. It doesn t mean packing up and going to foreign lands, although some do. It doesn t mean going out and preaching on street corners, although some do. It does mean living as a Christian, and that should be a joyous, joy-filled experience. During these days of celebration just concluded, I worked with people who took joy in working to help make our ceremonies more beautiful. I rejoice in the people in our community who love doing things for others. Some of these are known and others are very much behind the scenes. A party is only one way of celebrating. It s a good way, and over the next weeks there will be lots of parties. Baptism parties and farewell parties, welcome parties and thank you parties, graduation parties and parties for no reason but people who enjoy being together. And of course, Dyngus Day at the Jesuit Center. But the greatest celebration is our life, lived each day as a follower of Jesus Christ, putting into practice the teachings and the example of love that we have received. If being a Christian isn t a joyful experience, you re not doing it right! Go forth and celebrate. Fr. John s Email: pastorsh@jordanjesuits.org Fr. John s Phone: Office: 06 461-4190, Ext 29 Mobile: 079 013-8985
