Beer Sheva, ISRAEL PESACH SEDER For Believers in Messiah our Passover I. Genesis 15:12-14 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and, lo, a horror of great darkness fell upon him. And [Yehovah] said unto Abram, "Know of a certainty that your seed shall be a stranger in a land not theirs, and shall serve them, and they shall afflict them four hundred years. And also that nation whom they shall serve, I will judge; and afterward they shall come out with great substance." Genesis 22:2 And [God] said [to Abraham], "Take now your son, your only son Isaac whom you love, and get you into the land of Moriah, and offer him there for a whole burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell you." Genesis 22:7-8 And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father." And [Abraham] said, "Here I am, my son." And [Isaac] said, "Behold the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" And Abraham said, "God will provide himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." So they went both of them together. Genesis 18:17-19 And Yehovah said, "Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do, seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?" For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him; and they will preserve the way of Yehovah -to do righteous- ness and justice -that Yehovah may bring upon Abraham that which He has spoken of him." John 15:15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave knows not what his lord does; but you I have called friends because all things which I heard from my Father I made known to you. John 1:29 Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 13:1 Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that He should depart out of this world to the Father, loving His own in the world, to the end He loved them. Luke 22:15-16 (Ex. 12:25) And He said unto them, "With desire I desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I tell you that no more by any means will I eat it until it is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God." Luke 17:21 (Jeremiah 31:30-33; Rev. 3:20) The Kingdom of God is within you. Matthew 6:9-10 (Rev. 19:6-9) Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be thy Name; thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. II. Exodus 6:5-8 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I remember my covenant. Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am YEHOVAH ("Selfexistent"; Eternal; He who is; Ex 3:14; Rev 4:8) and I WILL BRING YOU OUT from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I WILL DELIVER YOU from their bondage, and I WILL REDEEM YOU with a stretched-out Arm and with great judgments; and I WILL TAKE YOU UNTO ME for a people, and I WILL BE UNTO YOU God; and you will KNOW that I am YEHOVAH, your God, who brings you forth 1

from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I WILL BRING YOU INTO THE LAND which I lifted up my hand to give unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and I WILL GIVE IT TO YOU for a possession: I AM YEHOVAH! Exodus 10:2 Tell your children and your grandchildren. III. KIDDUSH Raise the first cup of wine -the cup of sanctification. "I WILL BRING YOU OUT from under the burdens of the Egyptians." Luke 22:17-18 And taking a cup, having given thanks, [Yeshua] said, "Take this and divide among yourselves; for I tell you from now on by no means will I drink from the produce of the vine until the Kingdom of God comes." Baruch ata Adonai, Eloheinu Melech Ha Olam, Boray p'ri ha-gafen! ברוך אתה אדוני אלוהינו מלך העולם בורא פרי הגפן. Blessed art thou, Yehovah our God, King of the Universe, who creates the fruit of the vine. (Drink first cup) IV. EXPLAIN THE TRADITIONAL FOODS E X A. Lamb sacrificed perfect male yearling; striked its blood, which had poured out into the basin at the threshold of one's house; all of it eaten in one night; Son of God. Where is the Lamb? 1 Cor 5:7 O D U S 1 2 : 8 B. Unleavened Bread - מצה) Matza) C. Bitter Herbs - מרור) maror) Bread of Affliction - Soulful self-humiliation and reminder of our bondage out of which God has saved us by His mercy. No leaven symbolizes purity, sinlessness, life of God (Isa 53:4,7,9; Phlp 3:10). Pure and without guile, without any agent that makes something appear larger or better than it really is, or that sours or discourages that which is good; the meal offering. Bitterness of life under bondage in the world; repentance; no honey in the life of Messiah who died for us; identifying with an unknown, hated, and rejected Messiah and Lord. Deut 16:3 Ps 32:2,5 I Cor.5:7-8 Ex. 23:18 1 Cor.5:8 Lev 2:1-3 Ex.15:23 Lev.2:11 Is. 53 Mk. 9:19 Lk.12:50 Mat.27:34 Lk.24:25-26 Acts 5:41 Heb.12:2 Lk.14:25-27 John 16:33 Acts 14:22 1Cor.10:13 D. Charoset mortar; sweetness of God's provision; apple of God's eye. Traditionally the bitter herbs and charoset are eaten together with matza. We can view it as our lives in Messiah: suffering now for the sure hope of the glory to come. (Deut. 8:9; Rom. 6:5; Phlp 3:10). E. Hyssop כרפס) -carpas) -used to strike the blood on the doorpost. Dipped in vinegar/wine mixture, representing the blood of the Lamb. Hyssop also a symbol of humility. (Ps 51:7). Phlp. 3:8-12 Ps.69:21 Matt.27:34 John 19:29 2

V. EXPLANATION AND BREAKING OF MIDDLE MATZA A. ABRAHAM, ISAAC, JACOB B. COHEN: High Priest: Mediator with God for the people LEVITES: Priests: Offered sacrifices for Israel; joined to the Lord. ISRAEL: Common People: In whom dwells God's Spirit. C. FATHER, SON, HOLY SPIRIT. D. AFIKOMEN - Greek word means "after-dinner revelry"; "that which comes last." RESURRECTION: of Lamb, of royal priesthood, of life from the dead. (Rev. 2:17) (Hide the afikomen) VI. EXODUS 12:1-25. VII. A son asks the question: "What do you mean by this service?" (Ex. 12:26) Answer: "It is the sacrifice of Yehovah's Passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when He smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses " (Exod 12:27). VIII. Fill the second cup of wine - the cup of thanksgiving and praise: "I WILL DELIVER YOU from their bondage." (Do not drink cup at this time) IX. THE PLAGUES Exodus 10:1-2 And YEHOVAH said unto Moses, "Go in unto Pharaoh; but I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may do these signs in their midst; and that you may tell in the ears of your son, and of your son's son, what I have done with the Egyptians, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may KNOW that I am YEHOVAH! Exodus 7:8-13 (An initial act of God's sovereignty and mercy) Aaron's rod turned into a serpent, and though magicians of Egypt imitated the sign, Aaron's rod swallowed up theirs. Evil is under the hand and control of God as well as the creative life. The LORD reaching out to all who will repent before His righteous judgments begin. 1. Nile turns to BLOOD (Ex. 7:14-25). The river was the source of life to Egypt, which does not drink the rain of Heaven, as God told the Israelis the Land of Promise does. The world is earth-centered; YEHOVAH is not of this world. This independence from God as symbolized by the River Nile results in death. 2. FROGS from the river (Ex. 8:1-15; Rev. 16:12-13) Great swarms of unclean things which come up out of the river when the creature is worshipped and not the Creator. 3. Dust turned to LICE (Ex. 8:16-19). Parasites hosting upon man and beast, which are both but dust. The magicians of the world are powerless to overcome this stamp of vanity upon man, and they acknowledge the Finger of God. Yet Pharaoh's heart remained stubborn. 4. SWARMS ערוב) - arove: mixture) (Ex 8:20-32). Upon all Egypt, but the LORD makes a distinction (a redemption, sanctification) between His people and the people of Egypt. The world is one of complete mixture, chaos, without order and peace. Pharaoh offers a compromise which is unacceptable to the people of God, who must separate ourselves. God's view of His people is one - -like Himself -- of unity. 3

5. PESTILENCE (Ex. 9:1-7). Upon the domesticated cattle of Egypt, but the LORD separates the cattle of the sons of Israel from His judgment. The domesticated cattle are the servants of man, who requires the service of others in life. We cannot be independent -from God or from one another or from the rest of God's creation. 6. BOILS (Ex. 9:8-12). Upon man and cattle in Egypt from tossed ashes from the furnace that were sprinkled toward Heaven. The hot, smelting furnace of the world (Deut 4:20 ; 1 Kings 8:51) to which the sons of Israel are put to labor breaks out, as a by-product, in a disease which oozes of corruption through lust and greed: sin, which demands judgment from the righteous God of Israel. The boils also broke out upon the magicians of Egypt, who were henceforth unable to stand before Moses. Yet was Pharaoh's heart still hardened. 7. HAIL (Ex 9:13-35). Upon Egypt and upon all who fail to heed God's counsel for refuge. Hail is "preserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war" (Job 38:22-23). It represents an action of righteousness: God showing through Pharaoh His power that His Name may be declared in all the earth. 8. LOCUSTS (10:1-20). Which devoured all that the hail did not destroy. Nature and creatures serve God against sinful man. Pharaoh offers another compromise, but YEHOVAH's salvation is extended to one's entire household. 9. DARKNESS (Ex 10:21-29). Thick, heavy darkness that is stifling and felt for 3 days. God is Light. Upon the cross Jesus had to endure the darkness of separation from the Father because of the magnitude of the sin of the world which He took upon and bore Himself. This plague is a type, yet necessarily inadequate, of the outer darkness where unrepentant man will find himself for choosing an existence apart from the living God. Pharaoh again offers a compromise, seeking to impoverish the children of light. But God has title to all; nothing is to be taken from us by the powers of darkness but that which the LORD would have us give up as not belonging to Him. 10. DEATH OF FIRST-BORN (Ex 11). Of all first-born man and beast, and judgment brought upon all the gods of Egypt (Ex 12:12). Actually this final step is a final warning and call to repentance and belief for all -Israeli and Egyptian -to obey and place faith in the true God, YEHOVAH! He first makes provision for His people in eyes of the Egyptians, who are even used by the sovereign LORD to supply His chosens' need. YEHOVAH distinguishes between the world and Israel. The ruler of this world would drive out the Israelis after the death of the "chief of all their strength" (Ps 78:51). "When I see the blood, I will pass over you." (Exod 12:13; John 5:24; 1 John 3:14). X. Drink second cup of wine - cup of thanksgiving and praise. XI. A. Son asks (in paraphrase) his father (Ex 13:8): "What did YEHOVAH do for YOU when YOU came out of Egypt? B. Father gives personal testimony of his salvation and/or subsequent walk with the Lord. XII. A. Child asks (Ex 13:14) (in amplification): "What is this, the redemption of the first-born? And why is only the ass ONLY redeemed by a lamb, just like WE are at Passover?" B. Answer: "With a strong hand YEHOVAH brought us out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage. And it was so, when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, that YEHOVAH slew all the first- 4

born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of man to the first-born of cattle. Therefore, I sacrifice unto YEHOVAH all that opens the womb- being males, and all the first-born of my sons I redeem. And it shall be a sign upon your hand, and for frontlets between your eyes; for by strength of hand YEHOVAH brought us out of Egypt." (Gal 1:3-4; Col 2:15) (Consider the following Bible verses for explanation). Heb. 10:10- "By which will (God's) we are all sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus once for all." Gen 16:12- [Ishmael] will be a wild-ass of a man " Natural man under law is identified with the ass, which must be either redeemed or slain. The "stubborn and stiff-necked" ass/man must yield to the meek and lowly spirit of the Lamb of God, whose "yoke is easy" -or die! XIII. Give thanks and ask blessing over the meal. EAT and ENJOY: Feeding on MESSIAH, THE LAMB OF GOD! XIV. RECOVER AFIKOMEN. A. Jesus separated and hidden in His burial. The grain of wheat must fall into the ground and die in order that it brings forth much fruit (John 12:24). B. First-fruits (Resurrection) 1. B. We are YEHOVAH's inheritance and HE ours! Deut 18:1-2; Num 18:20; Ezek 44:28; Ps 16:5-6; Rev 21:3 Passover Shabbat : Ex 12:27; 20:2 Deut 5:15 Matt 11:28-30 Heb 4:9-10 XVII. The Past, Present and Future of Pesach A. Matt.26:29; Deut.16:1-8; Luke 22:15-16 And [Yeshua] said unto them, "With desire I desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I tell you that no more by any means will I eat it until it is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God." B. Lev.23:15-17; Ex.25:30; 1 Chron.9:32; Num.9:6-14; Matt.15:10-20 In the light of the New Testament fulfillment of Christ, our Passover, it has been made known to us that the grace of God was purposed before the foundation of the world (the Lamb slain - Rev.13:8). While Israel after the flesh has not yet entered into God's presence and rest because of unbelief and disobedience (Matt.28:11-15), the Israel of God and the other fellow-sojourners in the Church of God can rejoice and celebrate God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit, as we eagerly await the adoption -the redemption of our body. Believers today are priests of God and have the priestly privilege of partaking of the Shabbat shewbread (Bread of Presence) always, and of coming to God by His provision of a new meal offering containing leaven (Rom.12:1; refer also to section XIV.B, C), having entered into and abiding in the Kingdom of Heaven which our Father is pleased to give us through living faith in the death and resurrection of His Son, the Lord Yeshua, our Savior. Do we not already celebrate a more wonderful Passover, passing from death to life and being called the children of God?! We in Christ look ahead to the marriage supper of the Lamb in our Father's house, which is large enough for everyone invited and entitled to partake and participate by the grace of God. 1 Cor 11:23-32; Deut.16:9-12; 1Cor.10:16-17 "For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes." C. Jeremiah 23:5-8 (16:10-15); Heb.8:7-13 Behold, the days come, says Yehovah, that I will raise unto David a righteous branch, and a king shall reign and prosper, and shall execute righteousness and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely. And this is his name by which he shall be called, YEHOVAH OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS! Therefore behold, the days come, says Yehovah, that they shall no more say, the LORD lives, who brought up the children of Israel out from the land of Egypt, but YEHOVAH lives, who brought up and who led the seed of the house of Israel out from the north country, and from all countries where I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land. Ezekiel 45:21-24; Num.9:6-14 (another 1000 years after the return of Yeshua for a better and greater celebration -- with knowledge and in righteousness -- for the House of Israel in the goodness and faithfulness of God!) "In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, ye shall have the Passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten " HALLELU-YAH! COME, LORD JESUS! A M E N. 7
