Misleading Jewish Believers in Israel By Gershon NEREL www.iseeisrael.com Western ministers complain that Israeli Messianic pastors and congregational teachers lack formal theological training. The faultfinders especially point to the fact that most Israeli Messianic expositors do not hold a Master of Divinity degree, which is the standard for pastors in NorthAmerica. Many further lament that local Messianic leaders simply do not see the need for [formal theological training] when it is provided (MISHKAN #75, June 2016). However, after living in Israel as a disciple of the Lord Yeshua for more than four decades, I view the situation altogether differently. The lack of theological schooling and the formal creeds that come with it is, in fact, an advantage for Israeli Jewish believers, who are consequently freed from burdensome denominational legacies. Such spiritual freedom from misleading interpretations and theologies opens the door for fresh scriptural understandings. For decades Israel has been subjected to heavy theological bombardment by varied Christian schools. More than in any other country, churches endeavor to convert the locals to their own doctrines. They are not satisfied with Israeli Jewish believers who are merely disciples of the Lord Yeshua. Since the 1960s I have observed expatriate missionaries called theologians who only repeated, almost blindly, what they were taught at seminary. Misleading Jewish Believers in Israel Sometimes they came with degrees and agendas connected to names of impressive theological institutions. In too many cases, sadly, such theological schools imported to the Land of Israel needless discussions and polemics, resulting in painful divisions. Almost always they have attempted, using many pretentious arguments, to impose their odd, unbiblical dogmas. With the arrival of new waves of Americans - Messianic Jews and otherwise - in the 1980s and 1990s came even more diverse positions, including the aforementioned reliance on academic credentials. But if in America it is the standard for a pastor or congregational leader to have a Master of Divinity degree, does this mean that Israeli believers must follow the same pattern? In this context it is interesting to make note of the testimony of Moshe Immanuel Ben-Meir, a well-knownmessianic Jewish pioneer in Israel, who studied at Moody Bible Institute (MBI) in Chicago in the late 1920s. After describing his difficulties at MBI, among others the lack of Kosher food, and the attempts to Americanize him there, he wrote as follows: I am thankful to have two degrees that no earthly institution can bestow. I have a B.A. (Born Again) and an S.S.B.G. (Sinner Saved By Grace), Hallelujah. It is a unique advantage for Israeli believers not to be born into institutional theological frameworks. The absence of theological tradition/teaching is in fact an excellent opportunity to think freely through the Hebrew Bible and to allow the Holy Spirit to guide. Bible learning is not the same as theological study, and the heading Bible School is often misleading. In many cases an institution labeled Bible School 4 is nothing but an instrument in the service of instilling a specific theology and/or

denominational creed. Unfortunately, a great many locals mainly Arabs, but also many Jewish believers--have been successfully indoctrinated and cloned in the exact theological image of these institutions. These now find themselves in a position of needing to detheologize from many unbiblical teachings. Therefore the real challenge is to individually and as congregations obey the Holy Spirit and become simple, though surely not simplistic, disciples of the Son of God, studying His Word and being willing to become His faithful slaves who follow Him wherever He goes (Rev 14: 4). Trump Team Urges Israel to 'Calm Down Israel Today, November 17, 2016 Ryan Jones US President-elect Donald Trump s transition team has urged Israel to bridle its overt excitement over their candidate s surprise victory and what it could mean for the Jewish settlement enterprise. We ve been receiving official messages from Trump s team. They re expecting us to act modestly, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman told a press conference on Wednesday. There are people in his close circle that we know well, they re telling us, Wait. Don t set facts on the ground. Lieberman continued by hoping his fellow Israelis will have enough sense to stop the jubilation and public enthusiasm. It is undoubtedly damaging. Numerous Israeli public figures, including government ministers, have hailed Trump s taking the White House as the end of the failed land-for-peace process and any notion of an independent PalestinianArab state. Israeli Jews would enjoy unrestrained approval from the Trump Administration to build in all areas of their biblical heartland, many claimed. And it could be argued that they were justified in those assertions. Just a week ago, shortly after his upset win over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, Trump s close legal advisor, Jason Greenblatt, told Israel s Army Radio that America s next president does not view the settlements as being an obstacle for peace. Earlier in his campaign, Trump told the UK s Daily Mail that in regards to the settlement enterprise, Israel must keep going. They have to keep moving forward. Trump has expressed a desire to get involved in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, but insists his administration, contrary to its predecessors, will not impose conditions or formulas on either side. Lieberman says that Israel must work now to reach an understanding under which the incoming Trump Administration will officially recognize the major Jewish settlement blocs and support much-needed construction within their boundaries. Israel to Begin 3-Year Search for More Dead Sea Scrolls Nov. 15, 2016 CBN News JERUSALEM, Israel Israel is set to embark on a three-year expedition 5

to search for additional Dead Sea Scrolls and other antiquities in the Judean Desert. The expedition, led by a government research team, will mark the first largescale archaeological survey of the area in more than 20 years. It's set to begin next month. The archaeologists plan to survey hundreds of desert caves near the Dead Sea, where the world's oldest biblical manuscripts were discovered in 1947. The government initiated the expedition after looters found manuscripts in the area in recent years. The Dead Sea Scrolls are thought of as the crown jewel of Israeli antiquities. Recently, the Palestinian Authority petitioned UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) to deny Israeli ownership of the Dead Sea Scrolls, saying the caves where they were found are beyond the "green line," making them stolen property. Israeli official: Russia has long-term ambitions in the Middle East By REUTERS Nov 16, 2016 - www.jpost.com/printarticle.aspx?id=472838 JERUSALEM - Israel should be concerned about the deepening disconnect between Russia's aims in the Middle East and its own goals, according to a senior Israeli official who held high-level meetings in Moscow last week. Avi Dichter, chairman of Israel's foreign affairs and defense committee and the former head of the Shin Bet intelligence agency, said Russia's views on Iran, Syria's Bashar al-assad and the Lebanese militia Hezbollah were in sharp contrast to Israel's and a growing source of potential conflict. While he said Moscow appreciates the good ties it has with Israel and takes the diplomatic relationship seriously, it won't hesitate to impose actions that serve its interests on any countries in the Middle East, including Israel. "The gap between us and them is large and disturbing," Dichter said in summing up discussions with senior members of Russia's upper and lower houses of parliament, the deputy defense minister and the deputy head of national security. "Russia thinks and acts as a superpower and as such it often ignores Israeli interest when it doesn't coincide with the Russian interest," he said. Officials in Moscow did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Russia's relations with Israel. As Russia has become more deeply involved in the Syria conflict, fighting on behalf of Assad against Sunni militants, Israel has sought to keep lines of communication with Moscow open to avoid the risk of accidental confrontation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has visited President Vladimir Putin three times this year and they speak often. Israel's main concern is to be able to defend its borders against potential attack from Hezbollah, with which it fought a war in 2006, and which has a sizeable missile arsenal. Over the past two years, Israeli artillery and fighter jets have carried out several strikes against weapons convoys in southern Syria that Israel said were 6 destined for Hezbollah.

But Israel's freedom of movement in the area is now more restricted because of the presence of Russian jets and advanced anti-aircraft batteries that Moscow has put in place. IRAN From Israel's perspective, Iran is the greatest threat in the region and will do whatever it can to confront Israel either directly or through its proxies, Hezbollah and Assad. Russia, on the other hand, has no problem with any of those actors. "They view Hezbollah positively as the errand lackey of Iran in Syria and Lebanon, (and) they are backing the Shi'ite militia activity in Iraq and Syria," Dichter said of Moscow. "Russia does not view Iran and its proxies according to the level of threat they pose or broadcast towards Israel," he said. Moscow thinks Assad should stay in power, that Iran is a stabilizing force and that the nuclear deal the United States struck with Tehran was largely positive, Dichter said. Israel views on all accounts are entirely opposite. Under President Barack Obama, the United States has largely pulled back from the Middle East, allowing Russia to exert wider influence. It remains unclear how policy will shift under Donald Trump, but the president-elect has indicated he will align US policy on Syria more closely with Russia's. Dichter said Moscow had "feelings of contempt" towards European countries that had avoided engagement in Syria, and rather than viewing the region as an area of temporary interest, Russia was making plans for the long term. "It did not return to the Middle East with military capabilities in the air and at sea only to 'show off' and then leave," Dichter concluded. "The new neighbor did not come here only to rent an apartment, he came here to build a villa." Hezbollah displays US-made weaponry as IDF warily eyes explosive border By Anna Ahronheim, Nov 17, 2016 www.jpost.com/printarticle.aspx?id=472904 It was Hezbollah s first-ever military parade on foreign soil.and they showed off but where is Hezbollah getting its US-made APCs from? Images of the parade, which was held last week in the Syrian city of Qusayr, showed a wide array of the militant group's artillery: Soviet-made T-72 tanks, Russian Kornet anti-tank missiles armored personnel carriers, rapid response motorcycles and KS-12Aanti-aircraft weapons. But the most significant and worrisome vehicles on display were the Americanmade M113 armored personnel carriers (APCs), the type provided to the Lebanese army (LAF) by the United States, prompting many analysts to speculate that the group may have received them from the LAF. The arms were part of an aid package to bolster the Middle Eastern country from the threats posed by militant groups, and both the LAF and the US State Department have denied that the M113s seen in the parade were taken from them, adding that they are looking into how Hezbollah acquired the vehicles. And while the mystery surrounding the procurement of these tanks remain, the parade itself has raised eyebrows. (Use link above for full article) 7
