Our church is God s house because it is the house of the body of Christ, the church. We cannot contain God. We cannot imprison God in some structure made of human hands. But when we who are made holy by baptism, confirmation and eucharist gather together, then God chooses to live here in this place, among us. When we who are God s church gather together, with our bishop (or his delegate, the priest) and the deacon, around our book (on its stand), at our font (and its water), and especially around the Lord s altar (which is a dining table set in the shadow of the cross), God choses to dwell here, too. The God who wove the night time sky and arranged it with stars, the God for whom the mountains are just small hills, and for whom the oceans are but puddles cannot be contained. But the people whom this God loves from before time began do need a place to gather, and to remember in sacred rites that the church is made of flesh and blood before it is made of brick and board. Our church building is that place! So it should be simply beautiful, and we should care lovingly for it. It isn t any old meeting hall. It isn t any old living room. It isn t a museum or a classroom, either. It is a holy place, a holy land right here in our neighbourhood where the body of Christ is joined, where the voice of Christ rings out, where the sacrifice of Christ is offered and shared. It is good to show reverence in and to the church building. But reverence is not ignoring one s neighbour as a distraction. Reverence is the wonder that we experience and the love that we show when we realize that each one of those here gathered around the Lord s altar is a living stone that builds a spiritual house, and it is here that God truly lives among us. TWO SPECIAL DAYS IN NOVEMBER Wednesday 1 st November ALL SAINTS DAY 1100 Holy Eucharist at Lago Jardín This is the day when the Church gives thanks to God for her saints, the holy men and women of every time and place who have borne witness to the Lord and who now, in the communion of saints, pray for the Church on earth. There will be celebration of the Holy Eucharist at Lago Jardín at 1100. All are welcome on this important day. Thursday 2 nd November ALL SOULS DAY - Commemoration of the Faithful Departed Celebrations of the Eucharist (Requiem Mass) at 1100 at Lago Jardín and 1830 at La Siesta (Please note there will not be a celebration at Cristo Resucitado, we will be at Lago Jardín instead) This is the day when the Church, in her liturgy and prayer, remembers the faithful departed and prays for them. During the Prayer of the Faithful the names of the faithful departed are read out. If you would like a loved one remembered in prayer, please write their names clearly and IN BLOCK LETTERS on the sheets available, from today, at the back of all our churches. Most importantly, come and pray for them yourselves don t leave it up to someone else! The church at Campoverde will be open from 1600 1800 to come and pray for the faithful departed. Father Richard will be there at 1600 to lead a liturgy in remembrance of those who died. This a time to come and be still in reflection and in prayer. Prayers will be provided and you might like to bring a photograph of your loved one with you.
STEWARDSHIP AND PLEDGE RENEWAL SUNDAY Sunday 22 nd October 2017 (Sunday 15 th October 2017 at La Siesta, Sunday 29 th October 2017 at La Manga) STEWARDSHIP AND PLEDGE RENEWAL SUNDAY Sunday 22 nd October 2017 (Sunday 15 th October 2017 at La Siesta, Sunday 29 th October 2017 at La Manga) Following on from our Stewardship Campaign last year, the Stewardship Sub- Committee of the Chaplaincy Council have now planned the next stage. It is important for there to be a continuing awareness in the Chaplaincy of our financial situation and to invite new pledges for the year ahead. Maggie Dew, the Honorary Treasurer, will be speaking at each of our church centres over the next few weeks about stewardship and giving in the Chaplaincy. Pledge and response forms are being distributed from this weekend electronically. They will also be available in our churches from today. You are invited to print these off and complete them and return to our churches on: Sunday 15 th October for La Siesta Sunday 22 nd October for our other churches Sunday 29 th October for La Manga Please pray about your response to this and help support the Chaplaincy as generously as you can. Remember we do not receive any money other than that which we raise ourselves. Your Christian Stewardship giving makes all the difference and helps to maintain our Chaplaincy and assists in its growth and ministry. Through this we give glory to God and respond in thanksgiving for his many blessings. May God bless you.
