Sponsor forms can be obtained from Peter Maude on 865 777 395 or from pedro.maude@gmail.com. Father Richard writes: Next Thursday, in the life of the Church, is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Holy Cross Day. It is the day, every year on September 14 th, where we recall that the cross on which Jesus, the Son of Man, was lifted up has become the symbol of his victory over the power of evil. He made the instrument of humiliation, torture and death the instrument of our redemption. It is a special day for me personally. Many of you will have noticed that I have the letters SSC after my name. These letters indicate that I am a member of the Society of the Holy Cross (S=Sociestas S=Sanctae C=Crucis), a Society, or fraternity, of Priests in the Anglican Communion numbering around one thousand. The Society was formed in 1855 at the House of Charity, Soho, London and the Bishops and Priests of the Society live under a common rule which seeks to bear witness to the Cross of Christ in their vocation and ministry within the Church, and in their whole lives. The spirit and special characteristic of the work undertaken by the Society as a body, and by individual brethren, is the Cross of Christ, impressed inwardly on the life of the worker and revealed outwardly in its saving power upon the souls of others. The rule of life of the Society aims at the sanctification of its members, through and in union with the mystery of the Holy Cross, through the greater glory of God, and for the sake of all, particularly those under their care. The Eucharist is the centre and source of the priestly ministry of the brethren. When meditating upon the Cross and Passion of the Lord, the brethren proclaim: In this sign conquer Dig a pit for Cross (so the Cross can be made visible in our life and work) and, No desertion, no surrender! I invite you to pray this week for the Society of the Holy Cross; the Bishops and Priests of the Society; the parishes, chaplaincies, hospitals, schools, prisons and other institutions served by the Society and for aspirants to the Society. Please join me for the celebration of the Eucharist in honour of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at Cristo Resucitado on Thursday 14 th September at 11 a.m. Lift high the Cross, the love of Christ proclaim, till all the world adore his sacred name! My prayers for you all, Father Richard
