St. Vincent News Sr. Joan s Corner Dear Parishioners, This Sunday s Gospel parable is about the ten women waiting for the Lord. But when the Lord comes, half of them are rejected. As the parable explains, the five were out shopping when the Lord comes, so they are left out. They are the foolish ones. The other five women are the wise ones who are prepared to welcome the Lord. They know the Lord. There are many lessons in this parable that can be pondered. An obvious lesson is that we do not know when the Lord will return for us, so always be prepared. Another lesson is you can t rely on someone else to help you get prepared if you don t try to have a relationship with Jesus yourself. One of my brothers thinks I am going to pray him to heaven. I tell him it doesn t work that way. He has to be a friend of Jesus otherwise Jesus will not recognize him. What do you think would have happened if the women hadn t left to shop for more oil but had stayed waiting for the Lord? Would the Lord have let them in? This week as you pray, talk to Jesus about how you are preparing for his return. None of us knows the day or the hour. Is Jesus your friend? Sr. Joan Miller We joyfully share our gifts to nourish the community. ---- St. Vincent Purpose Statement November 5, 2017 Sunday Collection: $ 8,366.00 Children Collection: $ 12.08 All Saints Day Collection: $ 882.00 Praying the Rosary Please join us to pray the Rosary at St. Vincent Church on Wednesday, November 15th at 5:30 p.m. New Ministry Schedules St. Vincent s Ministry Schedules for November through January are now available. November: Month of Prayer for the Faithful Departed The Church encourages the offering of prayers and Masses for the souls of the faithful departed in Purgatory. At the time of death, the souls of those who are not perfectly cleansed of venial sin or have not atoned for past transgressions are not admitted to the Beatific Vision (what we understand as the clear vision of God granted to those in Heaven). The faithful on earth can assist these souls in Purgatory in attaining the Beatific Vision through their prayers, good works and the offering of Masses. Please feel free to enroll the names of deceased individuals in the Book of Remembrance, located in St. Joseph s Narthex, next to the list of those who have gone home to the Lord this past year. Today s Readings First Reading Wisdom is easily discerned by those who love her (Wisdom 6:12-16). Psalm My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God (Psalm 63).
