MUHARRAM Sunnah&Bidaa Now we are in / Shahrullah al Muharram. The Lunar Calendar has 12 months - all depending on the moon. Every month has somethingspecial. As soon as u feel low, u have something to motivate you. Recently we had the 1 st 10 days of Dzulhijjah&Yaum al Arafah. Then we went into slow mood. NOW we go back to being motivated because is here. The name is / shahrullahi can you have any other month which Allah associate with Himself? Only /Shahrullahi Al Muharram. What is? This is the 1 st month of the Islamic / lunaryear - but religion does not require us to celebrate it. It is one of the / sacred month.

What is a sacred month? Shahr is month. Haram is forbidden something is huruma. In this sacred month : Any good deeds will be multiplied The sins will be greater because it is shahrul haram. So guard extra against sinning. Be MORE careful when you go to Mecca ( Baitul Haram or Baladil Haram) meaning sins will be greater than in other places. This is regarding weather the place is haram or the time is haramthe sahabah feared living in Mecca.. When it was mentioned about the sacred months in the Quran, Allah mentioned : / fa la tadzlimu fi hinnaanfusakum / don t transgress against yourselves in these sacred months by sinning or not doing what Allah wants you to do. Allah said months. / don t be unjust to yourself so take extra care in these So do more good deeds( even small ones) as much as possible & abstain from sinning as much as you can. There are 4 sacred months : 3 months follow each other - DzulqaedahDzulhijjah Muharram o The month of Ramadan is special for its obligatoryfasting.ramadhan is Followed by Shawal these are to prepare us for the Sacred Months starting from Dzulqaedah.

o All these 3 months are to pertaining to Haj.Dzulqaedah is when they start to travel to Mecca. Dzulhijjah is month of Haj. Muharram is when they start to travel home. These 3 months need security& extra care. Shows how important month of Haj is. Month of Rejab Sunnah of Muharram o Best of sacred mths that is why Allah calls it. Of, Rasulullahsalallahualaihiwasallam called it / the best of the Sacred Months & the first of the sacred Months. o When you learn of the virtues of the month, u magnify it. You realize it is not a normal month it is special. Everything goes to the heart lov of Allah, magnifying Allah. When I know that it is the best of the months, and Allah call it, sacred month, the benefit is that these knowledge will make u magnify the month. People do not know what exactly is Muharram sowe must know our religion from the correct sources (Quran &Sunnah). To magnify and to honor religion, must be ONLY through what Allah had magnified& honored. o The name MUHARRAM has haram in it has something special in it. Shahrul Muharram is also called ShahrulAsam meaning extra care is needed of its haram. o Hadith : The best of the fast is Ramadhan (obligatory). 2 nd best is shahrullahi Al Muharam( not whole mth) fasting in this mth is next best Ramadan. Most beloved prayer is obligatory prayer next best is QiyamulLayl. egwitr 1 or 3 or 5 rakaat o / and the month of Muharram has YaumulSaaleh (day of good), Yaumul Adzim ( great day) which is :Yaum al Ashoora ashra * means 10 ie 10 th Muharram.

YAUM AL ASHOORA, - 10 th of Muharram Since Mecca, therasulullah used to fast on the 10 th Muharram, Day of Ashoora. When Rasulullahsalallahualaihiwasallam migrated to Medina, he found that the Jews were fasting on the 10 th Muharram, Day of Ashooratoo. Allah saved Musa on that day (when Firaun was drowned). Since then, Musa used to fast on Day of Ashoora.Rasulullahsalallahualaihiwasallam said the Muslims have more right on Musa than the Jews so we fast on this day following Musa. All Messengers were brothers. The Jews fasted on this day but even the Jahiliyyah fasted on this day too ; a tradition from the days of Ibrahim. Ashoora was since the time of Ibrahim. The Quraish did Haj too to follow Ibrahim.

HUKM SAUM ASHOORA in Islam Sunnah&Bidaa was regarding Ashoora too. We want quality we want the correct ibadah so follow the Sunnah. The 1 st Stage :There were different periods when Allah prescribed Ashoora. In Islam, beforeshahrulramadhan was prescribed as mandatory fasting, YaumulAshoora was the day when fasting was mandatory / obligatory fast for all Muslimin.

In 2 nd Hijrah, many changes occurred. For 15 years ( 13 years in Mecca +2 years in Medina),SaumAshoorawas the obligatory fast. But in 2 nd Hijrah, SaumAshoora was removed as obligatory and SaumRamadhan was prescribed as obligatory fast for all Muslims. SaumAshoora remained mustahab / sunnat. So in the 1 st stage, the Rasulullah used to do the obligatory fast ONLY on Ashoora. But a year before he died, it changed. See the 2nd stage below : The 2 nd stage : Hadith : If I will be alive next year, I will fast on 9 th & 10 th Muharram (but he died before he could this) to be different than the Jews ( & the Jahiliyyah who fasted on 10th Muharram only).

SAUM ASHOORA SiyamAshoora have degrees : 1. The best is to fast 3 consecutive days : 9,10, 11 Muharram (there is another Hadith to fast a day after the YaumulAshoora too to be diff than the Jews). All 3 days will be in Muharram hasanat is multipled 2. The next best is to fast 2 consecutive days : a. 9 10 Muharram or b. 10 11 Muharram 3. The last choice which is disliked but NOT haram : Fast on 10 th Muharram only. But this year 2012, 10th Muharram falls on a Saturday so we MUST fast another day alongside it to differ than the Jews ( who fast on Saturdays as Day of Sabbath). So fast before or after the 10 th Muharram too.this is true for sunnat fasting. For obligatory fasting, this is allowed.

VIRTUES OF ASHOORA SUNNAH : If you fast on 10 Muharram, the past year s sin will be expiated. Do this, even if we fasted on the Day of Arafah where the sins of the year before & the year after is expiated. Do not purposely sin on the days before Ashoora, then hope for it all to be expiated when you fast on 10 th Muharram because this is a deception. Slave of Allah always need good deeds. BIDAA : Anything other than the above is bidaa. 2 Bid aagroups are opposite about Ashoora: 1. They celebrate Ashoora -particular prayer, parties, new clothes, to the hair saloon, gifts, food exchange, henna, special food, visit each other like Eid. Some say it is of no harm but bidaa is harmful. anything NOT in the SUNNAH is BID AA 2. Another group MOURN on Ashoora, they beat themselves till they bleed! They cry, act, they make special deviations. They do this because they feel guilty they did not give victory to Hussein - &because they killed Hussein on Yaum Al Ashoora. So because they betrayed him, they feel guilty & they cry & beat themselves about it. Noone take the guilt of another, so why beat yourselves? Islam protect humanity - not to harm ( which is haram).

Bid aa spreads so FAST - more than Sunnah. BUT any bid aa is deviation, & any deviation is dalaalah, & any dalaalah is an Naar. May Allah Protect us. Allah said in SuratKahf, 18 : Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Shall We tell you the greatest losers in respect of (their) deeds? (103) "Those whose efforts have been wasted in this life while they thought that they were acquiring good by their deeds![] (104) The Best of kalam is Kalamullah& the best way is the way of Rasulullah. Bidaa is dalallah&dalallah is An Naar
