Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish Waltham/Lexington ST. ANTHONY AND ST. THERESE OF LISIEUX CANDLE STANDS We are sure by now you have seen the new candle stands for St. Anthony and St. Therese of Lisieux. These stands were funded from the church building fund. Below are some before and after photos. What a difference. OUR LADY S ACADEMY NEWS In 3B we cannot believe how fast the time is flying, and that these third graders are almost 4 th graders! After a long and snowy winter, it is wonderful to see the sun shining in the classroom again! In writing, we have just finished up our biography project. This entailed students researching about famous Bay Staters in the computer lab during computer class and then writing a detailed 5 paragraph essay about them. Once they finished their writing piece, the students, using a picture of their subject s head, constructed a body for their person. 3B worked very hard and the final products look great! We have already begun work for our next big writing project, Fractured Fairy Tales. Students have been exploring various fairy tales, learning about the elements of a story, and we have even had some wonderful parent volunteers come in and read aloud fairy tales to us! The next step will be students choosing a fairy tale to fracture, and then they will create their own book. Students are also becoming more and more fluent at both reading and writing in cursive as they incorporate it into their daily life at school. In math we have been learning about geometry concepts as well as long division. In science we have just begun our unit on force, motion, and simple machines. 3B explored the various forms of motion by using classroom materials to construct means in which a rubber ball would move in a straight line, circular motion, zig zag pattern, or back and forth. They had a lot of fun and were very creative! On another note, the Liturgical Life Committee would like to proudly announce that Our Lady s students earned over $1,900 for Missionary Childhood Association s efforts in Uganda through the Mite Box program during Lent. Way to go everyone!!! The next Monthly Mass for the Sick, sponsored by the Faith-Based Cancer Support Group of Sacred Heart and Our Lady Help of Christians Church, will be on Monday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Msgr. Dennis Sheehan, Parochial Vicar of Sacred Heart and Our Lady Help of Christians will celebrate the Mass and Anointing of the Sick. After refreshments, Sr. Anne D'Arcy, CSJ, Associate Director of Spiritual Life for the Archdiocese of Boston, will be speaking on Mary as a disciple who trusted God, even when afraid. The evening is designed to bring joy, hope, and peace to those who are affected by illness, including family and friends. The Mass and program will both be held downstairs at Our Lady s church, located at 573 Washington Street in Newton. For questions or more information, please contact, please contact Arlene Larsen: 781-899-0213 or aflarsen48@gmail.com, or the parish offices. All are welcome! 4 Seventh Sunday of Easter/Ascension

CATECHISM CORNER Waltham/Lexington The Transmission of Divine Revelation What Christ entrusted to the apostles, they in turn handed on by their preaching and writing, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to all generations, until Christ returns in glory. Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture make up a single sacred deposit of the Word of God in which, the pilgrim Church contemplates God, the source of all her riches. The Church, in her doctrine, life and worship, perpetuates and transmits to every generation all that she herself is, all that she believes. Thanks to its supernatural sense of faith, the People of God as whole never ceases to welcome, to penetrate more deeply and to live more fully from the gift of divine Revelation. The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the Magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him. To find more information see: Catechism of the Catholic Church Official Teaching To view the online version visit: United Stated Conference of Catholic Bishops at: www.usccb.org/catechism Building the Domestic Church: The Family Fully Alive St John Paul II stated The family has the mission to guard, reveal, and communicate love. In our effort to support families in bringing the blessings of faith into their homes, the Knights of Columbus has launched an initiative entitled: Building the Domestic Church: The Family Fully Alive. Through this program, our families can realize more fully their mission to Love as an authentic domestic church through daily prayer, catechesis and Scripture reading, as well as enjoying time together through monthly activities and projects they can do as a family. For more info on monthly themed "Family Fully Alive" activities leading up to the 2015 World Meeting of Families, check the bulletin and the Family Fully Alive table at main entrance of the church or go to: www.kofc.org/un/en/domestic-church/monthly-themes or www.worldmeeting2015.org For more information, or to be involved in the program, contact the Parish Office or Gar and Tara Rohatgi at 781.891.0696, tara.rohatgi@gmail.com, grohatgi.boston@gmail.com) 6 Seventh Sunday of Easter/Ascension
