ENDURING UNDERSTANDINGS Am Yisrael By 5 th grade a understanding of Am Yisrael will be that there are a variety of Jews with different customs, that the student can identify with parts of that peoplehood, that Israel is a special place amongst a number of places in which Jews live, that the student has his/her own place in Am Yisrael. Torah By the 5 th grade, the understanding of Torah will be that our lives are guided by enduring wisdom, That these teachings are sacred and holy, That Torah is an ongoing source of understanding and revelation central to the way we live our lives, That Jews value continual learning and each person has a place in being a transmitter of Torah. Tikkun Olam By the 5 th grade, the understanding of Tikkun Olam will be that our actions and speech are informed by Jewish values, ethics and teachings, which shape our world and interactions with humanity. God and Spirituality By the 5 th grade, the understanding of God and spirituality will be That one way of connecting to God is through tefillah and prayer of the heart That Jews support one another by coming together to pray That there are times and ways to pray (when and how we pray- structure and choreography of prayer That it is possible to have emotional experiences connected to God s presence.
