Leviticus Chapter 23

Transcription:

Exo 11:1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether. Before the 10 th plague, which was the slaying of the Egyptians firstborn, God reveals to Moses that after the plague Pharaoh will thrust the Israelites out of Egypt. Exo 11:2-3 Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold. And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people. Would the Egyptians have given up their wealth before the 10 th plague? I don t think so. So this must be referring to what would occur after the plague. See Exo. 12:30-36. Exo 11:4-8 And Moses said, [speaking to Pharaoh]Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt: And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts. And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more. But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel. And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, saying, Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee: and after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger. Again, this is talking of what will happen several days later, because Exo 12:3-6 talks about taking a lamb on the 10 th day of the month and keeping it until the 14 th. So Exo 11:4-8 must have occurred on the 9 th or before. Exo 11:9-10 And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt. And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land. Exo 12:1-5 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: Each household, not some priest, had the responsibility of killing, cleaning and cooking their own 1 year old lamb. Exo 12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. Keep it until the beginning of the 14 th means at the going down of the sun (Deut. 16:6 At the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name in, there thou shalt sacrifice the passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou camest forth out of Egypt.). The evening begins the 24 hour day in God s eyes. For the sake of discussion, let s put a time of 6pm for sunset. Exo 12:7 10 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. In that same night, before midnight, they put the blood on the door posts and ate the Passover Lamb. It s very possible to do this in 6 hours. Exo 12:11 13 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover. For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. The blood of the Lamb covering the door posts was the sign to the death angel to PASS OVER those houses. This happened at midnight on the 14 th. Everything dealing with the PASS OVER was accomplished on the 14 th --- nothing regarding Passover occurred on the 15 th. Christian Ambassadors, Inc 2 www.christianambassadors.org

Exo 12:14 17 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever. Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you. And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever. What occurred on the 15 th, the first day of Unleavened Bread, was Israel leaving Egypt. Exo 12:18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even. On the 14 th Israel did eat unleavened bread, though it is not until the 15 th that the Feast of Unleavened Bread begins (Lev 23:6-8 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein. But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein). Exo 12:19 23 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread. Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover. And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. No Israelite was to leave their house until the morning of the 14 th or else they would die despite having the blood on the door posts!!! So they couldn t have left Egypt the night of the 14 th --- it had to be the night of the 15 th because God took them out of Egypt by night (Exo. 12:40-41; Deu 16:1; Num 33:3 Observe the month of Abib for in the month of Abib the LORD thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night; And they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the morrow after the passover the children of Israel went out with an high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians). Christian Ambassadors, Inc 3 www.christianambassadors.org

Exo 12:24 31 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever. And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service. And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service? That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD'S passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped. And the children of Israel went away, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they. And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said. Either Pharaoh sent word to Moses or he visited Moses at Moses house, because Moses definitely didn t come outside that night; Moses didn t go outside until the morning (for the sake of discussion let s say 6am --- about the time of sunrise). Exo 12:32-36 Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also. And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We be all dead men. And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneadingtroughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders. And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians. This is the fulfillment of the prophecy in Exo. 11:1-3. So, between 6am 5:59pm, which is the daylight portion of the 14 th, the Israelites took what they wanted from the Egyptians and prepared to leave Egypt. Exo 12:37-42 And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children. And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle. And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not leavened; because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any victual. Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years. And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt. It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations. The night to be much observed is the night Israel came out of Egypt --- Abib 15. Christian Ambassadors, Inc 4 www.christianambassadors.org

Exo 12:43 13:8 And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof: But every man's servant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof. In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof. All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you. Thus did all the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they. And it came to pass the selfsame day, that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Sanctify unto me all the firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine. And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten. This day came ye out in the month Abib. And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the LORD. Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee in all thy quarters. And thou shalt show thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt. The New Covenant symbolism is: 1) Passover = put out sins; forgiveness of sins; spared from death 2) Unleavened Bread = put in righteousness (Christ); live by the Bread of Life The Crucifixion Week unfolded as follows: 1) Abib 10: Jesus, the Lamb of God triumphantly enters Jerusalem 2) Abib 11 3) Abib 12 4) Abib 13: (Mat 26:17-19) Now the day [before the Passover] the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. Sometime before 6pm (this would ve been on Tues.) Jesus asks His disciples to find a place and make preparations to keep the Passover. 5) Abib 14: (Mat 26:20) Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. Sometime after 6pm (this still would ve been on Tues.) Jesus begins to partake of the Passover meal/lord s Supper. Mat 26:45-46 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. Probably around midnight, the same time the death angel passed over the Israelites in ancient times, Jesus was symbolically slain. Christian Ambassadors, Inc 5 www.christianambassadors.org

Mat 27:1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. Approximately 6am (this would ve been Wed.) Mat 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? The 9 th hour = 3pm because the daylight portion of the day starts at 6am. So Jesus died at 3pm on Wed, Abib 14. John 19:31-42 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand. Sometime between 3-6pm Joseph takes Jesus from the cross to bury him nearby before the 1 st Day of Unleavened Bread. JESUS, THE PASSOVER LAMB, WAS IN THE GRAVE BEFORE ABIB 15. EVERYTHING ABOUT THE PASSOVER IN THE OLD & NEW TESTAMENT WAS COMPLETED ON THE PASSOVER! 6) Abib 15: Wednesday evening (after 6pm) begins Abib 15 --- the 1 st Day of Unleavened Bread. Wed evening to Thur evening is the first 24 hours Jesus is resting in the grave. 7) Abib 16: Thur evening to Fri evening is the 2 nd 24 hrs. 8) Abib 17: Fri evening to Sat evening is the 3 rd 24 hrs. Jesus is resurrected 72 hours (3 days and 3 nights as it says in Mat. 12:40) after his burial. So Jesus was resurrected sometime between 5-6pm on the weekly Sabbath (Saturday). 9) Abib 18: Mark 16:2 & Jn. 20:1 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun while it was yet dark. The true Son had already risen before 6am on Sunday. Later that day, Jesus, the Wave Sheaf offering, said to Mary Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. (John 20:17). Still later that day, Jesus, after He had been accepted by God as the first of the firstfruits, appears to the disciples (Jn. 20:19). This is the example we should follow in counting Pentecost. We start counting on the day after the weekly Sabbath, not the day after the High Sabbath of Unleavened Bread. If that were the case then the disciples should have started counting on Abib 16 instead of Abib 18. God says count 7 Sabbaths plus one day to get 50 days = Pentecost. If we count the High Sabbath/Annual Sabbath of Unleavened Bread we d get 8 sabbaths in the 50 days; God only instructed us to include 7 sabbaths, so He must have been referring to the weekly sabbath. Another point to remember is that counting must begin during the Days of Unleavened Bread. So the Sunday that comes during Unleavened Bread is the starting point.
