Since we are living in a visual generation, images and videos grab more of our attention. Picking up a book, we often judge its value by the attractive images and colors on its covers. Skimming through hundreds of pages of text, we feel a sense of being overwhelmed (and bored!) by the many black and white letters. There are just too many words! Then we take out our Smartphones to check Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook ahh, much more satisfaction. With this latest mentality, how difficult it is for us to open up and read the thousandpage, plain-cover Bible! To overcome this difficult task, we must have a plan and be committed to it. Fortunately, the same technology that can distract us can also help us to read the Bible more faithfully. That is, there are free smartphone apps that give us daily Bible reading plans. My favorite is the YouVersion Bible app. This app has many reading plans. I chose the ESV Study Bible plan for my own daily reading because it allows me to read the whole Bible in a year. Each day, the plan gives 4 or 5 passages from a variety of books from the Bible, which keeps the reading interesting; that is, the plan allows me to read 4 or 5 books of the Bible at a time. Each passage is continuous, so I can grasp the theme of a particular book of the Bible. It takes me about 30 minutes to complete the readings each day. Some may be concerned that the ESV translation is not Catholic. The ESV translation is a Protestant translation, it lacks the 7 books of the Bible that are found in the Catholic translation: Wisdom, Sirach, Tobit, Judith, Baruch and the two books of Maccabees;

However, after much research and reading it myself, I find that the text of the ESV is based on the Catholic RSV translation and very similar to it. If you choose the ESV plan, then you can read the so-called 7 apocryphal books on your own for completion. Above technology and translation, we must rely on the grace of God. As we read His words, God will inspire us with many wonderful insights of who we are and our relationship with Him. Reading the Bible is not reserved only for người ñi tu! All Christians have the duty to read, listen, live, and share the Good News with others. In reading Scriptures, we need to allow time to listen and reflect on God s words. Young people often ask, how do I know if God is speaking to me? In the Scriptures, we know for sure that God is truly speaking to us. By attentive listening, we are empowered to live his Word. When we let the Word to be incarnated into our daily life, we experience peace, joy, and love because we know that the Lord is with us! Days before I left home, I was tempted to not go and quit TNTT altogether. I feared failure and the unknown of what those four days would entail. My heart did not feel ready, but with enough guidance from my mentor and friends I found the motivation to go. Once Damas began, I immediately felt the TNTT spirit. All of the work during the camp was rigorous, but worthwhile. The morning exercises, singing during mass, lessons, games, and praying all day really enabled me to reconnect with God and boost my spirit. I learned a lot, and the doubt that I had before disappeared. I started to believe in myself. I felt God guiding me and my heart felt like it was in the right place. The most pivotal point of Damas was the night of reflection. I was given time to think about why I was there. At first, my reason for going was for my ñoàn. It was to make others happy that I went. But then at that moment, I took everything in and realized why I was there. Becoming a huynh trưởng is a choice that I made for myself.
